Can someone explain to me how that still happens. She had power of attorney for cripes sake. And then explain to me how a group with "Family" in their name thinks it's ok that it happens.

Gays aren't people. Sure they were created by God and God never makes mistakes which causes a very nice paradox (and funny faces when you box in a believer with that one) but still...they are gay and because a book written 2000 years ago says that is wrong it must be wrong!

Just remember, it was easy to hate black people when they dehumanized them and acted as if they were animals as opposed to people (explaining how the 3/5's compromise was allowed to be part of the Constitution...the document that gave us our freedom) and the same holds true for gay people. That is why allowing gay marriage leads to man marrying his dog! If you just pretend that gay people arent people (i.e. drop the people just call them Gays) it is very easy to deny them their God (ruh roh another paradox is coming, someone call Doc Brown!) given rights!

Remember we live in the free-ist society in the world...oooooooor we dont! But if werepeat it enough it must be true right?

Gosh, that's a nice bit of rhetoric... but where are these people that get more from not working than those who do work? And if you're making less than someone on welfare... what kind of terrible job do you have and, more importantly, how little did you have to do to "earn" that job?

As far as I know, power of attorney wouldn't be a factor in an instance such as this.

That said, the hospital was/is in the wrong. And the criticizing group in question doesn't represent the majority. The story written by the Post is far from objective journalism in using terms such as "whining" and "anti-gay". Much like the media seeking out interviews from the fringe elements at Tea Party rallies, the Post went to a fringe group for their commentary on this issue. Might as well have gone to a Grand Cyclops for an interview on civil rights issues.

That's the thing, Foxton......I don't believe any group or groups represent the majority of conservatives. About 2/3rds of Americans describe themselves politically as "conservative", and those people come from across the entire spectrum.

Of course, the media loves to tag different fringe elements as "conservative" groups......such as the Post article below.

Unless you want to claim that a) at least 1/2 of all conservatives don't vote, or b) a rather large chunk of the conservative population votes democrat.

You'd be surprised at the prevalence of B, I think.
According to the Battleground Poll,
Since June 2002, the Battleground Poll has asked this same question in its demographics section...Over the course of these polls, 60.2% of Americans, on average, call themselves conservative.
It's independent of party affiliation. We have a ton of conservative democrats in these old union labor towns.

I don't know the source of that statement, but I can see it being true in the same spirit as an overwhelming percentage of people identifying their values as "traditional." The devil is always in the terms having different definitions for different people. One of the most telling things about the Tea Party movement members is polls showing they believe about 85% of Americans share their values.

How many of us don't view our belief system as congruent with the Preamble to the Declaration? Any?

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

That's one of the great strengths of America -- we can view ourselves as each furthering the fundamental mission of the nation even as we strongly disagree on many issues.

So we're excusing it now by calling the Family Research Council a fringe group? How many Republicans can even win a nomination nowadays without their support? Are Republicans a fringe party?

In line with the 'traditional values' self-reporting, it would be interesting to profile the 'average' american as self-reported. They probably are 85% honest, 90% good parents, 75% good spouses, 70% financially savvy, 80% good in bed, 90% knew NO would win the Super Bowl etc. :D

How to determine your political persuasion

Q1: Do you have five (or more) kids?
Q2: Do any of them have Down Syndrome?

If you answered No to either of the above questions, you are not a conservative.
