Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

I'd like to see a much more efficient govt. But there's no way the US faces a default or serious threats in our lifetime. No chance...but there is a high chance of continued talk of such on message boards like this.

As a side note, flipping through the channels and caught a bit of Huckabee. His 'sermon' is on a moral breakdown driven by love of the almighty dollar (ie derivatives on wall street). Good thing he doesn't have any mirrors around. :)

oh...and Kagan is officially nominated for the courts.

oh? why not? The numbers don't particularly care how moral we are as a society... so, how do we get around this issue?

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

Early talking points for your convenience:
1. Openly gay

Now I know I am taking crazy pills, but shouldn't conservatives not care that someone is openly gay? Isnt it none of our business what someone does in their private life which is kind of what conservatives stand for? (stay out of my life and so on)

Man, if I was a GOPer I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. (insert joke here) I mean that is just flat out bigotry, which means Old Pio will brand you a white hating liberal like he did Patman :p

In all seriousness, if I was head of the GOP I would leave the gay part out of this, especially with all the gay scandals that have gone on in party of late.

The administration and the economy has some work to do on the debt for the administration to achieve a top quarter legacy. But the US economy is too strong, the govts has too many options and there are enough signs that we're on a recovery for the country to default in our lifetime.

Early talking points for your convenience:
1. Openly gay
2. Raging socialist (Princeton thesis)
3. Anti-military

Get to it GOP!

My preference is to see 9 justices clustered around the center of the US political spectrum (not necessarily conservatives wishes)...but that doesn't seem to be the case, so bring on the balance!

Oh and if she finds a way to reduce the ridiculous gobs of wasteful military spending in a world that's largely obsoleted war between modern nations...she'd be worth her weight in gold.

I would also like to see her hit a home run since that's as much in her job description...

Very similar to what I was thinking.

I can't even come up with a scenario where the SCOTUS would have the opportunity to rule on a case whose decision could result in substantial reductions in military spending. Even if a treatment-of-detainees case makes it to the SCOTUS, it's not like they're going to hand down "punitive damages" and mandate defense cuts in response...

Yeah, that's definitely a touchy one. I don't think it will be a huge issue, I can guarantee all 3 things I listed there will be bandied about on the cable news shows today.

The most likely alternative to default is raging inflation for a couple of years or so during which the gov't can try to pay the debt with greatly cheapened dollars.

Because SCOTUS deals with military funding all the time...oh wait, that's the other 2 branches.

I'm bracing for the Democrat's inevitable and idiotic, "You don't like this nominee because she's gay!" attack on anyone that opposes her. Much like everyone who dislikes Obama's policies is racist, the Sotomayor opponents are anti-Latino and anti-women's rights, and--of course--all Tea Partiers are hatemongers.

I guarantee the "You are a gay-hater!" rhetoric will start by week's end.

The "You're not protestant" rhetoric has already started. If confirmed, we'd have an entirely Catholic/Jewish Court. Fox News is already blowing a gasket on that one.

Isn't there supposed to be something about no religious test to hold office?

Why do these people hate America?

Good lord, I hope you're not serious. Even their GOP paymasters should know that's not the way to play it.

(Of course, it may also say something about the state of Protestants in higher education. ;) )

Her being openly gay could have one salutary effect. It will be that much harder for her colleagues to craft abstract theoretical justifications for declaring gays to be unequal under the law when she's sitting right there. Maybe, as with Marshall, it will be the moment when the pseudo-scholarly defense of discrimination was simply no longer tenable, and all that was left was the snarling, devoid of the fig leaf of the radical right's casuistry.

Well, you know, the Jews and Catholics are in a conspiracy to rule the world. Plus they killed Jesus!

Gays are equal under the law. They have the right to marry someone of the opposite sex just like anyone else. There's nothing abstract about it. Unless you're arguing that homosexuals deserve to be a protected class, which is complete bunk to begin with.

Seriously.......c'mon Kep. Post something that isn't a thinly-veiled attack on the conservative right.
