and to the end, Lieberman is still functionally a Democrat and in general he still believes in the usage of the state to help out the nation in accordance with his beliefs.
The general issue is that the Dems run towards the totality of an issue accepting comprimise and "moderate"ness on their terms... note that you don't usually see a "moderate" jag to the right unless its law enforcement. Those who vote as conservatives/republicans are getting to the point where they feel they need to take on this totality. I think the Tea Parties are as much a reaction to this totality and fear of that totality as much as it is a reaction to the idea that we're going to have to pay for all these debts in the end. We can't sustain this "vision" and the people are afraid that they can't stop it.
This is why you can't argue with rufus. He keeps changing what happened in the past. If the GOP hadn't run a total moron in that race, Lamont would have won handily.
