Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

Since when do we treat "everyone" at an ER? I'd be willing to bet less than 1 or 2 percent of this board's members don't go to an ER for treatment.

Are you really that bad at reading comp, or are you just acting like one?

The point was, if you show up at an ER today, they have to treat you regardless of ability to pay. It wasn't that everyone goes to an ER for treatment, it was that an ER has to treat everyone who shows up.

You said they have to treat "everyone" at an ER and that's not the case.

Just because you go to an ER, they still don't have to treat you if you don't have insurance unless a) the institution takes Medicare and b) your health has to be in "serious" jeopardy OR you've lost bodily function OR you have a serious dysfuction of an internal organ or bodily part.

The only thing a Medicare facility *has* to do for "everyone and anyone" is screen them. Period. They do not have to "treat everyone who shows up" - only those that meet treatment criteria established by COBRA.

Maybe if you comprehended the actual statutes, you wouldn't need to question my comprehension relative to your inaccurate posts.

Is anyone else going to try the "It's after 2:00" thing to avoid work?

The ambulance takes them to part A, then the hospital gets on the hook for the most expensive part B.

So which is better, letting people rack up bills they will never be able to pay back, or setting up something that attempts to pay for the procedures.

I'm all for reform, but "everyone" doesn't get transported to the ER by ambulance and "everyone" doesn't get "treated". That's not JMO, it's fact and it's law.

Obamacare will drive more manufacturing businesses and jobs out of the U.S.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/36032946

Nothing like giving shareholders of JD and CAT the option of:

a) Spending a combined $150mm to build new facilities, hire and train workers and move manufacturing equipment - in Taiwan.

or

b) Spend $1b in the first 48 months of this legislation on more taxes - at two companies with healthcare benefit packages in the top 5 percentile of all companies in the US.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Typical liberal thinking. The only way to fix things for the have nots is to ruin it for the haves.

So who should pay for this? All I hear is complaints on this and that, and nothing saying a solution.

As for the previous point, indeed it isn't required for everyone to be treated, but the big noose around the neck is the guy having the heart attack without the money to pay for it, not the wino with the sniffles.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

NEW YORK, March 25 (Reuters) - The office of Representative Anthony Weiner on Thursday received a threatening letter containing an unidentified white powder, his office said.

"Earlier today an envelope containing white powder and a threatening letter was delivered to my community office in Kew Gardens," the Democratic congressman said in a statement issued by his office.

"My first priority is the safety of my staff and neighbors, and the authorities are currently taking steps to investigate and resolve the situation," he said.

Weiner's office in Kew Gardens, part of the New York City borough of Queens, was closed for investigation.

Authorities were responding to the site, and no other details were immediately available, said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko.

Send white powder to a member of Congress....good call.

How much you suppose the ER charges just to "evaluate" them?

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

For all the fear the opponents have put out there, how would a rational criticism ever shine through? It's the boy who cried wolf.

Elections have consequences. You could have won back in November, and then you can take the lead on legislation. But the Republicans lost, and had the option to either obstruct or to help govern. They chose the former.

R's have no one to blame but themselves.

Unless, of course, real Conservatives like the plan:

As some readers of this blog may know, I was fired by a right wing think tank called the National Center for Policy Analysis in 2005 for writing a book critical of George W. Bush's policies, especially his support for Medicare Part D. In the years since, I have lost a great many friends and been shunned by conservative society in Washington, DC.Now the same thing has happened to David Frum, who has been fired by the American Enterprise Institute. I don't know all the details, but I presume that his Waterloo post on Sunday condemning Republicans for failing to work with Democrats on healthcare reform was the final straw.

Since, he is no longer affiliated with AEI, I feel free to say publicly something he told me in private a few months ago. He asked if I had noticed any comments by AEI "scholars" on the subject of health care reform. I said no and he said that was because they had been ordered not to speak to the media because they agreed with too much of what Obama was trying to do.

It saddened me to hear this. I have always hoped that my experience was unique. But now I see that I was just the first to suffer from a closing of the conservative mind. Rigid conformity is being enforced, no dissent is allowed, and the conservative brain will slowly shrivel into dementia if it hasn't already.

Bush's former Speechwriter, Bruce Bartlett, on Frum's canning.

I'm for reform too. I like some of what is in the new law, not all, and from what I have read about it, I do think they could have done better.

Having been fairly close to some people who work in a couple of different ER though I do have to comment..... you are very correct that not everyone gets taken to the ER by ambulance. However, while it may not be law (I don't know what the law is), in practice everyone gets seen at the ER insurance or not... it may not be the "end all be all" of the treatment they need. But everyone gets seen and treated to some extent... broken bones, ear infections, heart attacks, drug seekers faking pain trying to get narcotics, colds, cancer, toothaches, rashes, lacerations etc etc...

The uninsured showing up at Emergency Rooms is a major problem IMO... and guess who pays for it? Not the doctors and nurses, the hospital does not eat the costs... those costs get figured in to their overall billing rates and ultimately passed onto those of us who do have and pay for insurance.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

They won back in 2000. What did they do with it? Nothing? Pretty much. They got some cool war, and some even cooler tax cuts. and some prescription drugs, and some legality to spy on grandma, and some No Child L(Gets) B(Ahead).

Can you blame them for being upset now? They already passed socialism. The Democrats didn't need to take it this far. Oh, what's that? Mitt Romney ran on passing this bill and almost got the GOP nomination? What?

Gosh Scooby, you still stuck on that NCLB? Are you some teacher that got fired because your students couldn't learn or do you just plain hate all things Bush?

"Spy on grandma"? Now who's fear mongering?

The Seattle Times claims that a rock was thrown through Democratic Congressman Steve Driehaus' office.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2011432285_healthreat25.html

One problem with that idea? Mr. Driehaus' office is on the 30th floor of the office building, and his staff say that story is not true.

Some of the violence being carried out by right-wingers is real, and it is reprehensible. But please, let's not all get caught up in the media hysteria.

That's good, I was worried that the M's might have found another friggen pitcher this season.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

It looks like Social Security is running into trouble earlier than the CBO had predicted:

http://www.businessinsider.com/social-security-goes-bust-2010-3

There are three sets of people on here: people with actual experience with CBO/GAO estimates and analysis; people who dispassionately assess those estimates and understand their value and accuracy; blind partisans that quote those numbers as 'proof' that their party is right or would deny any estimate that said their party is wrong.

Nobody with any experience would be surprised that the CBO could be so wrong only one year later.
