Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

So, I guess we can assume welfare fraud isn't a moneymaker for the government... meaning the combined impact of welfare and medicare/cade fraud is 'in the billions' annually.

I would submit that it would be illogical to assume the efforts I proposed (having a private company reduce welfare and medicare/cade fraud) were only a 1 year opportunity.

So, does that answer if the opportunity to reduce welfare and medicare/cade fraud is in the billions?

It wouldn't take satellites and space age weaponry to fight fraud...there are companies out there that could model the likelihood of fraud from data they already have and likely stop a significant volume of fraud by preventing the initial fraudulent payout with a degree of accuracy that would make even the bleeding hearts satisfied. Analysis of actual payments would be another opportunity, less scientific but still a significant opportunity.

What incentive do government bureaucrats have to reduce fraud? Their budgets only grow...at the expense of the tax payer.

The answer isn't in hiring other companies to fight fraud. It's in letting private insurance companies manage it on their own. Those that stop it will survive, those that don't will pass away.

I wasn't suggesting private companies run welfare or medicare themselves...in as much as they provide services under those programs I still don't think they are in the primary position of being responsible for fraud. That they might facilitate, look the other way or just not care is, in my opinion, a problem for the agency running the program.

While my suggestion is to have a private company address current fraud volumes, I would expect the government to do what it should to 1) care about it 2) learn from the cases identified 3) prevent it going forward... so fraud decreases over time and there isn't the same need, nor reward, for a private company to address the problem.

Now, if enough money goes through any system there is bound to be some breakage...if fraud in those programs was reduced to less than 1% of total benefits paid it could still be possible for a company to survive on 10% of what they reduce or return.

All in all, that function should be part of the model for welfare and medicare...instead there is little attention to it, there is no bottom line for those entities so they just 'ho hum' on fraud and pass it on to everybody on this board in the form of taxes.

Many retail establishments, bars and restaurants and other companies only exist if they maintain normal loss ratios...if they don't keep them in check and try to pass the cost on to consumers then they go out of business.

As the saying goes, don't steal, the government hates competition

A little Friday fun in the White House

gibbs-584.jpg

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has made good on a bet on the outcome of the Olympic men's hockey gold-medal game, wearing a Team Canada hockey jersey at his daily briefing on Friday.

Gibbs lost the bet he made with Prime Minister's Office spokesman Dimitri Soudas on the outcome of the Feb. 28 game.

Gibbs had worn a Canadian jersey in a meeting with reporters after the U.S. women's team lost the gold medal game, but not on camera.

The jersey he showed off on Friday bore the No. 39 and displayed his name on the back. He said the number was to honour U.S. goalie Ryan Miller.

Too many gamblers in the writehouse. They are destroying free markets with commie government buuraacracy and gaming.

How about we remove fraud from the banking industry. It seems like these investment bankers are constantly using dirty accounting tricks to commit fraud. Lessons learned is to hide it better for these masters of the universe. We have the power!!!.

The examiner, Anton Valukas, discovered that Lehman put together complex transactions that allowed the firm to sell "toxic," mostly mortgage, securities at the end of a quarter -- wiping them off its balance sheet when regulators and shareholders were examining it -- and then to quickly buy them back. Thus, the "Repo," meaning repurchase.

Now, thanks to the work by Valukas, Repo 105 has entered the pantheon of names of vehicles for accounting chicanery, along with Enron's Jedi, Chewco and Raptor partnerships and the "Buco Nero" (black hole) offshore account stashed away by the fallen Italian dairy giant Parmalat. In the sagas of those two companies, the role of the accounting firms was central.

Did other companies engulfed by the financial meltdown deploy similar accounting tricks?

"I think what Lehman was doing was way out there and quite misleading, and against the financial reporting and accounting rules," said Lynn Turner, a former chief accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission. "I don't think there were many others, if there were others at all, that were doing this. I think the rules Lehman violated are straightforward."

Even members of Lehman's accounting staff, in e-mails unearthed by the examiner, called the Repo 105 concoctions an "accounting gimmick" and "a lazy way of managing the balance sheet as opposed to legitimately meeting ... targets at quarter end."

The private sector is flawless.

And you're a Socialist!

It isn't flawless and I doubt you'll find any sane person that says it is, was or will be.

It is the false belief that the government can prevent and/or assuage all flaws that drives some to relinquish self-determination and settle for a mediocre existence where they never succeed but are reassured that anyone who does will not prosper for long.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

OBAMA WAS ASKED:

"MR PRESIDENT WILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GIVE UP YOUR CURRENT HEALTH CARE PROGRAM AND JOIN THE NEW 'UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PROGRAM' THAT THE REST OF US WILL BE ON ????"

THERE WAS A STONEY SILENCE AS OBAMA IGNORED THE QUESTION AND CHOSE NOT TO ANSWER IT !!!

IN ADDITION, A NUMBER OF SENATORS WERE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS, "WE WILL THINK ABOUT IT." AND THEY DID. IT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY ON THE NEWS THAT THE "KENNEDY HEALTH CARE BILL" WAS WRITTEN INTO THE NEW HEALTH CARE REFORM INITIATIVE ENSURING THAT THAT CONGRESS WILL BE 100% EXEMPT !

SO, THIS GREAT NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU AND I... IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR OBAMA, HIS FAMILY OR CONGRESS...??

THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG !!!!!

PERSONALLY, I CAN ONLY ACCEPT A UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE OVERHAUL THAT EXTENDS TO EVERYONE. .. NOT JUST US LOWLY CITIZENS... WHILE THE WASHINGTON "ELITE" KEEP RIGHT ON WITH THEIR GOLD-PLATED HEALTH CARE COVERAGES.

WHAT???

The Republic has a CONSTITUTION???

Amendment 28

Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States .

Good to know that student loans have been added to this health care joke.

They know there is currently no funding for federal student loans because they have delayed it intentionally and are going to turn this into "you hate college students" if you don't vote for their health care bill. That is real leadership.

between this and the whole weirdness of the unconstitutional bill-merging/splitting crud... again, do we really need any more evidence as to what democrats really believe and actually desire. The ends justify the means... the strengthening totalitarianism of the righteous.

Exactly. It's not that free markets are free of flaws - they've just shown time and time and time again that their flaws are minute compared to the flaws of a bloated, heavily bureaucratic government.

There are an extreme few things that the government can do better than the private sector. Generally, these are the things that are laid out in the Constitution (what a concept!).

There was a great 60 minutes piece last night on the Wall Street collapse. I highly recommend it.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/12/60minutes/main6292458.shtml?tag=contentMain;cbsCarousel

"This was an episode where capitalism was almost destroyed, just by the capitalists. And, in the most sensational way, they were sort of destroyed by their own folly," Lewis told Kroft.

Asked what happened, Lewis said, "The incentives for people on Wall Street got so screwed up, that the people who worked there became blinded to their own long term interests. And because the short term interests were so overpowering. And so they behaved in ways that were antithetical to their own long term interests."

I was watching it and nodding in agreement much of the time. There are strong incentives on Wall Street to ignore reality. They didn't even interview some of the guys, like John Paulson and James Simmons, who made literally billions for themselves by seeing the dangers of the MBS/CDO racket and bet against Wall Street's mortgage carousel.

I've become interested in reading Michael Lewis' book now.

Interestingly, in the book's prologue, Salomon Brothers alumnus Lewis explains how, after he wrote Liar's Poker over 20 years ago, he figured he had seen the height of financial folly. However, even he was surprised by the much larger losses suffered in the recent crisis compared to the 1980s, which seem almost like child's play now.

Yeah it was pretty good. since he was basically saying what I've been saying. I thought he gave too much credence to delusions, he got it right the 1st time, it was compensation (greed).

Hmm next book title:

GOLDman sachs America: story of pillaging and plundering with thanks.

Leh man and Gold man: tragic corporate love story.
