Am I missing something here? Was the CCHA secretly really profitable and Anastos was funneling money to MSU and this is their way of giving him a golden parachute?

I'm in the SURPRISED group. Pluses -- He's a MSU guy, knows college hockey as well as anyone. Very well respected and a decent person. Minuses -- Hasn't coached in 13 years.

I'm certainly willing to give him a couple of years to prove he can be a successful coach at the DI level.

In a couple years, more than a handful of us diehard types could be in for some serious therapy.

Maybe Hollis intentionally leaked both names early this morning so he could see which one played better, and make a game-time (press conference-time?) decision.

He's an MSU guy. SFW. Is he the best person who could have been gotten for the job, or is this a loyalty hire? And how much of a hand did Mason have in this?

I'm sure Anastos is buddies with all the CCHA referees, they will be hesitant to make calls against MSU.

Hopefully the shootout goes away now with a new Commish.

It is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING how far the MSU hockey program has fallen. To think the MSU gig would be available to a guy with little to no coaching experience and who hadn't coached a team in 13 years is shocking to say the least. If Ron Mason were dead, he'd be rolling over in his grave.

Well, at least Penn State and Ohio State will have company competing for the cellar in the new Big 11 league.

RIP: Michigan State hockey. Bury those disgusting uniforms you wear, too.

I watched the press conference. Only news of note was Anastos saying MSU will go back to Mason style hockey.

Gotta think that anyone recruiting against MSU is going to love having this bullet in their gun. "You want to play for a guy who hasn't coached this century?"
