Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

This hire is hilarious. I remember all the MSU fans ripping on UofM for hiring Brady Hoke. At least Hoke was the head coach of another D1 program.

I hope MSU enjoys the regular poundings from the U of M's and Wisconsin in the BTHC.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

I watched the press conference. Only news of note was Anastos saying MSU will go back to Mason style hockey.

So that's why the clutch and grab has been increased the last couple of years. Oh, those boys will be just fine and upstanding citizens in the NHL.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

As somebody who's been following college hockey ever since I was three years old - 19 years - I have to say this is the most perplexing hire I've ever seen. It's ridiculously risky, it's foolhardy, it's reckless, and it makes not one lick of sense.

I mean, I wasn't the biggest fan of the idea of Cole coming here, but at least he coach at the D-I level for longer than a cup of coffee.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

Please tell me this is a joke. Please tell me MSU is attempting to troll the entire CCHA.

If this would have happened on April 1st, I wouldn't have believed it.

I'm not even laughing. I'm just awestruck.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

Did MSU really feel that bad for OSU and PSU that they wanted to keep them company in the bottom of the new conference? Talk about a terrible hire.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

This is nothing short of shocking. What on earth are they thinking?

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

Gotta think that anyone recruiting against MSU is going to love having this bullet in their gun. "You want to play for a guy who hasn't coached this century?"

Ha, then MSU replies with, "how would like to play for a man the Hockey News ranked one of the top 100 influential people in the game of hockey?"

This is a brilliant hire. He's got the hockey knowledge and more proven leadership than any other real candidate.

I remember when there use to be knowledge people on this board. Lately, nothing but short-sighted, knee-jerk reactionaries. If you relax and think this through, you'll realize how great this hire is for MSU.

My U.P. counterpart couldn't have said my thoughts any better.....Wow

Please pass whatever it is you're smoking.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

I'm not smoking anything, you should try it sometime. Might help you think more clearly.

The fact that you're defending this hire shows how far your program has fallen.

Hiring a guy who has been out of coaching for nearly 2 decades, and has only 5 years of coaching experience is completely asinine. I'm just glad you guys didn't try to poach Jeff Blashill, oh wait, we pay our coach more than MSU would offer. How sad

If UM replaced Red with Anastos, you guys would be having a field day. But put those green glasses on and sip on the kool-aid

The creator of Capgeek is #98 on that list, and the "Puck Daddy" yahoo blogger is #100. Western's own Glenn Healy is #56 on that list, (Anastos is #46) and I don't think I want any of them as the head coach.

But spin away.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

Good to hear that Big Tweleven schools outside of UMTC are great at making terrible hires.

Re: Now. Who is coming to East Lansing

You mean scoring two goals a game, folding in the clutch and not making the Frozen Four?

No, he means taking the conference title on a regular basis, winning 25-30 games a year, making the NCAAs and scoring about 2 1/2 that amount.

I think it's more than a little troubling that Anastos is quoted as saying he was "surprised to be considered for the job".
Whereas the perceived front-runner would take it in a shot.

It almost sounds like the new coach is running from something, instead of running to an opportunity.

Maybe the next time the football team needs a new coach, they can hire a guy who served as an assistant for a year with a high school varsity team back in 1990.

That sure is some good spin work. You work in PR?

The realization that his "bread and butter" marketing plan is now horribly flawed and everything he built up with Olympia Entertainment and FSN-Detroit is now being flushed away in two years?

I can't wait to have a commissioner who actually WANTS to promote the rest of the league.

If Anastos ran the WCHA, during their logo change this summer he WOULD have put the Wisconsin W or an upside down Minnesota M in the logo.
