Notre Dame going Independent?

Re: Notre Dame going Independent?

I don't think they need to announce a conference on the 15th - just whether they are staying in the CCHA, which we all assume they will not be.

Actually, they don't NEED to do anything until the CCHA imposed deadline of September 30. They are the ones that said they plan on being able to reveal their intentions at this week's meetings. So the rest of us are just sitting by hoping they actually do that.

Actually Notre Dame has YET to say when they will reveal any of their plans. Anyone who said otherwise was simply speculating, and speculating incorrectly, as it turns out, according to the Kalamazoo Gazette.

Re: Notre Dame going Independent?

And here is the article from Blue and Gold Illustrated by Dan Murphy that the Gazette took their info from.

I do believe the "other reports" he mentions in this are simply all the speculating that has been done endlessly on boards like this and NDNation. I have heard nothing credible that Notre Dame has EVER intended to make all their plans known at any specific time.

So they are going to go the CCHA meetings and say what? They might not say where they are going, but you think they are not going to get grilled by the other teams if they are staying?

The only thing the CCHA by-laws require is to be informed by some certain date (and we've seen different days noted) of a schools intention to continue in the league, or to leave it. I'm sure everyone in the room will ask, but if Notre Dame hasn't made a decision, what can they tell them? And if they have, they still don't need to reveal it. I'm sure it all has to do with ensuring the most favorable future possible. Before they sign on the dotted line with any conference, I'm sure they'll want to know all the possibilities when it comes to scheduling, TV coverage, playoff scenarios/location, and many other things.

I realize there are no direct quotes, but this article puts a ND name to a statement about announcing their decision at the conference meetings Aug 15-16, so it seemed like more than speculation.

Re: Notre Dame going Independent?

I really hope Notre Dame goes to hockey east. Man I would get a good laugh.

By the way has puck swami chimed in on the NCHC discussion yet? He was the one spouting off about how his program was going to be a mid major and wanted all this change and now he has dissapeared.....

According to this article it looks like less of a possibility. So we will see what happens
According to sources, Hockey East is now considered a long shot. Initially, Notre Dame officials were said to be split between joining Hockey East or the NCHC.

Re: Notre Dame going Independent?

Notre Dame knows their leaving, the hockey world knows their leaving and the CCHA knows their leaving...even if they want to keep telling themselves otherwise.

Frankly its kinda crappy for ND to just delay a departure announcement with the only outcome of frustrating CCHA in moving on and try to reorg.

You are contradicting yourself. If the CCHA and the rest of the world knows Notre Dame is leaving anyway, how is it crappy for Notre Dame to be approaching this the way they are approaching it? Everybody already knows, right? My guess is if it was Miami that was holding the college hockey world hostage with an impending announcement, you wouldn't be posting about their "crappy" behavior on an internet message board.

This is the one thing about Notre Dame's emergence as a good hockey program I can do without, the needless and jealousy fueled hand-wringing over anything they do that could possibly be construed as arrogant. For the record, I have posted that I wish they'd just go ahead and make an announcement for just this reason, but then I am a fan of the program. And why is it that Notre Dame is the only school that should act in the best interests of all that is "college hockey" instead of acting first in its own best interests? If it weren't for the knee-jerk behavior of about a dozen other teams in the recent months, none of this would be happening. Because they all acted impulsively and in their own interests first means Notre Dame has to act impulsively now for the betterment of the rest of the sport?

A dozen teams?

It seems 2 teams and a rich guy caused most of the chaos the College Hockey world is now in.

That is clearly debatable.

What's debatable? the 2 FF in the last 4 seasons, or the 4 NCAA appearances in the last 5, or as many or more wins as just about anyone since 2005, or the fact one of the giants of the college game is at the helm behind the bench, or the the brand new $50 million dollar home...? I wasn't aware that weak programs generally accomplished any of those things. the IQ of this board gets lower and lower every year. I think Puck Swami had the right idea...

Not to mention it make the rest of us poor ******** just rehash different realinement scenarios over and over again until they finally announce which way the domino's are going to start falling!!!
