No people don't.... Get it through your thick skull. Simply put, no one agrees that athletic and academic excellence are exclusive. Some people can be good at both.

Where in that post was academics discussed?! All Bear Red mentioned was that figure skating is of an enjoyance to the poster, and that Osorojo had a chance to see a future gold medalist. All of us may not necessarily like figure skating, and that's cool. Osorojo may like it, and that's cool too. I don't like watching figure skating myself, but I'll respect anyone that wishes to watch it.

I know that I'm probably one of the last people to defend Osorojo given the amount of crud I have put on the poster's threads, but you were way off the ball this time, jcarter.

The Elis have one strength no one has mentioned. Many Yale athletes actually go to college to obtain an education. Consequently, they are less likely than players at other leading hockey schools to turn pro and drop out at an inconvenient time.
Which among the top 15 teams are most likely to be hurt by players defecting to the pros before this season ends?

I completely and utterly disagree that Yale students/athletes are more educationally oriented than anyone else. In fact, one could do a good job of arguing the opposite.

After reading his post I made the assumption he mis-typed what he meant. Maybe Oso has changed his ways and left the academic excellance train, but I find it hard to believe.

Actually the pool was full, he just misjudged his triple Lindy landing.

Backman has 5 goals and 7 assists in 28 games for the AHL Texas Stars this year, glad to see he fully recovered from that mess.

This forum is chock-full of posts wherein fans of some college hockey teams (NOT Yale) boast about the quantity and quality of pro prospects they have and how many former players (as opposed to graduates) have turned pro. Fine. Be true to your school and all that. But the hard truth is that these same college programs lose the most players to pro ranks before graduation and, as some fans point out with pride, these early departures are far more common in some schools than others (not Yale.)
You can't have it both ways. One could not do a good job of arguing that schools which suffer a chronically greater early departure loss to the pros "are more educationally oriented than anyone else."

Neither can you. If a non-Ivy player failed out of school, had to leave for a year, and spent it in Europe playing hockey before returning to his college team, you'd be full of righteous indignation and spend the next 5 weeks decrying the corruption inherent in (non-Ivy) college athletics.

Some years ago at a pre-season exhibition game between Cornell and a German team I watched a 13 year-old girl named Sarah Hughes skate in circles between the first and second period. [Sarah is the daughter of John Hughes, captain of the only unbeaten DI college hockey team in U.S. history.]
I enjoyed her skating in circles, which soon won her the gold medal in Olympic figure skating. I value this experience more than watching Cornell beat UND 1-0 in a terrific hockey game on their way to a national championship.
