Norwich Women's Hockey

Was it not the Cadets final goal announced as scored by number 27....looked liked it was deflected from the point shot????

I had a pretty clean view on it and I didn't see a deflection. Coach never said anything about it but I will ask him today or tomorrow when I see him.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

what were wrong? 4th Platty goal Moon from DiJulio and Buehler (aka Sidney Aveson as it was announced)

not that it matters just making an observation

No it matters. My apologies I didnt hear anything to the contrary and just went with it. I'll notify Plattsburgh to see the change should be made.

Thanks.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

For what it's worth I thought Bolding was a little premature in yanking Fortin last night. The first goal was a slapper from the point which changed direction when it deflected off a defensman in front and the 2nd goal, which only the ppl in the arena saw... was from what I heard the culmination of a lost draw in their own end and a shot that would have been a goal in any league.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Good point 5 4 Fighting,

I also thought Fortin was pulled to early. There is a big gap between Fortin (Senior) and Fisk (freshman). Cindy has been the back bone of this team in the biggest games since their arrival in D3 and she has to be there at the end. She has been battling the puck but I say go with her until her gets it back and she will!

I just watched the video. Did DiJulio really get a stick on it? I know she's in front of Fisk with a bunch of traffic but I couldn't clearly tell from the video if she did. It was definitely a shot from Buehler to start it though and the pass before was a d-to-d from Schaubel.

Regardless, the assists definitely need to be changed.

This is interesting...many times the defense get "jobbed" for points by refs or by forwards wanting to pad their stats...I bet most D could add another 5 to 6 points a year to their stats if the refs made the correct assessment of a goal sequence....

Well doogie...if some of the *Norwich faithful don't stop bashing their goaltending on here ...it prob isn't going to get any better.

I just assume so... there arent alot of pucks that go by the front that she doesn't tip if she is there but you have the video so it is really your call If she didn't it would be from Buehler and Shaubel.

I think that Coach Bolding and his staff are aware they have a problem.....they will find the answer as the season progresses, they always seem to get stronger and make the adjustment needed to make them a serious contender. I have seen them their last couple of game and I can see that this is a skilled and deep team. Couple concerns may be getting this many players (27) enough playing time to keep everyone happy so that they all stick around, but as long as there is good honest open communication between the players and the staff I think you can keep all happy........maybe the staff is waiting for the semester break before making anymore cuts so that he can see what the semester brings them for surprises????? As far as the goaltending, no it is not playing as well as they had hoped I am sure, however let's remember this is the same kid that has lead them to the playoffs every year and she always gets better as the year progresses.......she will get straightened out.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Okay just back from the game, at friends house........almost hit it all.........Norwich scored with like 12 seconds left to ruin my 3 goal pick and as predicted Norwich used 2 goalies. Norwich outshot Platty like 41 to 12 or something like that......Norwich was bigger, stronger, faster and really the better team but goaltending was the big difference. NU is a great team but what happened to their goaltending is a crime....it is just not there. This team will never beat the top teams even though they are better and deeper then most teams they will face but without goaltending you will not win those types of games when the other team may be inferior but has better goaltending.

I was wrong about the Norwich young D-men......they held up very well.....

Well Mainiac, what is your prediction for this weekends games vs Trinity and Amherst??

I think Norwich beats Trinity in a close one.........NU is very deep and the better team, outshoot Trinity by a large margin but again the goaltending rears it's ugly head for NU.....and for Amherst I am going to say that Norwich is the better team again but they lose a close one and go 1 and 1 for the weekend. I think Amherst will run a defensive system that will give Norwich's free wheeling, style some problems in the first, Coach makes some changes in the 2nd on the breakout and forecheck but Amherst holds tight and wins a close one. I think the goaltending plays a better game for NU in the Amherst game but they are still not quite solid enough.........Just shooting from the hip here.......Let's see how it comes out.

I've been saying right along that the goaltending issues will take care of themselves and last night Plamondon did a great job for NU in the nets so the only thing left to resolve now is how to stay out of the penalty box. The boxscore is not up yet but as I recall, we took a bad penalty with about 7 minutes left in the 3rd, we lose momentum... game over.

Nice rink though. I think Trinity will continue to improve and be a contender in the years to come, if you can get over the sticker shock of attending there.

Penalties have definitely been coming at very inoppurtune times. :(

You hit the key. Penalties aren't the issue. Penalties in a tie game midway through the third are the issue. Unfortunate, but I can't see it having a huge effect in Cadet-land until playoff season.

Fortunately Norwich plays in one of the weaker if not the weakest conference in D-III so the Cadets only need to win 2 or 3 games in late February or March and they can make the dance.

Their Pool C chances are pretty much shot from here on out so it's down to having to win the ECAC East title. This team has notoriously found a second gear in the second semester and it wouldn't shock me if it happens again this season. They'll get another good test tommorow against Amherst and then again to start the second semester at Plattsburgh.

Got to minimize the defensive zone mistakes and penalties and they'll be a-okay.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

I know I have always told my kids that a goalie should have the leeway of at least one soft goal especially if a team is outshooting the opposition by a lot. If they ever started bellyaching about their goalie I would say - well I guess your team should have put away the breakaway/wide open net or 5 on 3 powerplay. The goalie has nothing to do with that part of a teams game. More often then naught I think in those situations its more that a team can't finish.
