Norwich Women's Hockey

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

While the ECAC-West may be stronger at the top right now (KRACH RIT 1, Plattsburgh 2, Elmira 8) they also feature more softies than the NESCAC (KRACH Chatham 47, Buffalo State 37, Cortland 36, Potsdam 32). Granted the NESCAC has its weak sisters (KRACH Wesleyan 41, Williams 34 and Colby 33), but in a 9 team conference, as both are, I think playing tough games more frequently makes the NESCAC a better conference than ECAC-West (and I know Buffalo State beat Elmira).

I completely agree. That being said, the ECAC West is coming along with Neuman and Oswego improving this year, and hopefully for the years to come. The difference has been the consistent strength of NESCAC year over year.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

And their only losses were to nationally ranked teams: Plattsburgh, RIT & Trinity. I don't think it puts them in the tournament, but it will definitely make a case for them because you still have three very strong teams in the ECAC West and if RIT doesn't come out as champion who knows what could happen?

By far the ECAC West is the strongest Conference in DIII hockey IMHO.

As of today's polls
For # of teams in top ten.....yes

ECACW .500
MIAC .200 "

using Rutter top 25 teams

NESAC .555 "
ECECW .500 "
ECACE .333 " (including ST mike, HC and At Ans) .222 not including those 3 teams
MIAC .300 "

Averaging the two polls

Tough to argue with those numbers and the fact the ECAC West and NESAC are the only ones with National Titles. Is this the year for the NCHA or ECAC E?

The NCHA may never win a National title, but, it will not diminish the fact that the NCHA conference as a whole is among the top conferences in Dlll as is the NESAC.

Am I missing something here? These #'s only speak to the parity in each division and not the strength of said division as they compare to others...right?

I know it's hard for you to stomach a conference being considered weaker than another. The point is that there is a decent chance the #8 team in the NCHA Could beat the #1 seed in the playoffs. That would never happen in the ecac west

Whilst your speaking for nbound perhaps you can elaborate then on his previous posting that..."...the NCHA as a whole is among the top conferences in DIII....."

Is among them in what? Parity, competition, travel distance to opponents ... er what?

So...

About those Cadets....

It's been nice to see how much this team has grown from Mid-October to now. Even with the loss of Kayla Lascelle on defense, the young d-core has bucked up and played well in the face of adversity.

Caitie Banfield has transitioned nicely onto the blue line and opened up a forward spot that has been a highly contested battle for that spot in the lineup.

Cindy Fortin has taken her game to another level in between the pipes as she so often does in the second half of the season over the course of her four-year career.

The Cadets have set themselves up nicely to host the ECAC East tournament for the first time and avoid a potential NEC/Manhattanville game until the finals. They'll also have the opportunity to get revenge on Salve Regina in the semifinals if they do end up meeting as well.

Hopefully they don't fall to the same fate Manhattanville has the past two seasons that they won the regular season title.

The line of Julie Fortier/Melissa Rundlett/Renee Lortie being put together has been a HUGE part of the winning streak. These three have just clicked and they seem to be getting better with every game. Norwich for the first time has a true set of top-six forwards where any one of them can hurt you.

Big game this weekend against Manhattanville. Gotta get the Valiant monkey off their back and get a W. Manhattanville leads the all-time series 6-1.

And lets not forget the contributions from the 3rd and 4th lines too.

I'll be out of town this weekend, ( I know I know) but will be watching the video stream on Sat., but will there be live stats available for Sundays game?

No live stats....I can send you text updates if you would like.

The bear hasn't been pooping in the woods enough this season...Better clear the air for March :)

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Congratulations to Coach Bolding and his staff for a great regular season going undefeated in conference play (17-0-1) and for setting a new program-record for wins in a season with 21.

I was a fan of the invernizzi perez kadel line. That's a good third speed line that can hurt u. And they did it against mville. Maybe found something there?

I watched the game via internet and thought is was a very effective line as well. Having only seen 3 games live this year and another couple on the web, my question is how good are they right now? I saw them live early on in the season and even though they were winning I thought their goaltending would be their achilles heel. Have they got that under control again cuz it seems like all 3 goalies have played and had some success, even though some games have been against weaker teams. But even early on against some of the weaker teams it appeared as if their goalies were not playing well. I know that their Dmen and forwards are very talented and they seem deep enough.......but what is the overall feeling of this team making a serious run with their goaltending being what it is???

The team has grown leaps and bounds IMHO since October and November.

The goaltending for one has been outstanding ever since the Amherst game, which coincides with the unbeaten streak the team is on. Fortin, as she so often does picks her game up to a different gear in the second half of the season. I also think the defense has improved throughout the year and started to adjust to playing at the collegiate level. Remember, when Lascelle was healthy, 'Wick was starting four freshman D.

The Rundlett/Lortie/Fortier line has really gelled into a force and probably is the top line Norwich has top to bottom. Leclerc has been dominant this year once again and the third and the fourth line have grown as the year has gone on.

The team is good and coming back against Middlebury as well as Manhattanville is nothing to shake a fist at. We'll see what these next two weeks bring, but as long as the Cadets come to play like they have been, they'll be the favorite to win the ECAC East. However, by no stretch of the imagination would I count out NEC or Mville from pulling the upset.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Now, I guessed right that Green Bay would win last Sunday but if I had to guess who was going to the NCAA D3 final four, here it is…

RIT - beaucoup scoring punch
NU - partial and biased
Middlebury - will pull one out of the hat
UWRF - just a guess based on stats.

Champ will be….. TBD 

Well, I got 3 out of 4 right.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

What a great effort, beating the top scoring RIT team in their own barn. Congratulations to the NATIONAL CHAMPION NORWICH CADETS!. Special congratulations to the seniors who have been with the team for its entire history, going from newcomers as a varsity team to national champs in 4 seasons. Unbelievable, but true!

I hope this pushes the men to repeat as national champs next weekend.

I also hope the video streaming is better next weekend. It was 2-3 minutes behind the whole way. I listened to WDEV but watched on NCAA.com
