Norwich Women's Hockey

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Congratulations to Sophie Leclerc on her 50th career goal tonight for the Maroon and Gold!

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving player. Keep it up Soph and maybe you'll be holding the Laura Hurd at the end of the season.

Prez, you're a pretty level-headed thinker...does it not make you cringe at least a little bit that top-liners are racking up points while some low-liners are -1 with only a few shots? I mean, it was 11-1. Call off the dogs at some point, no? Just thought that was a little ridiculous. You proved you were a good team a week ago -- scoring 11 goals against a team that clearly can't stop any shots isn't proving anything further. Enough is enough at some point.

Don't tell me we're going to start this thread only two weeks into the season...

Why do you think that "enough is enough"? This is college hockey. If teams want to get better, then they need to RECRUIT. Castleton only has 18 players listed on their roster, with only 5 freshmen - that's not even a full roster! With all the youth hockey out there, are you telling me that the coach couldn't find even two more freshmen to come to Castleton?

If a team doesn't want to get blown out during the regular season, then the coaching staff needs to commit itself to recruiting so that it can become competitive. That's the bottom line.

Bolding did call off the dogs IMHO. It was 7-1 after 1. You can't tell your team to stop shooting. IMHO thats more embarrasing if you stop doing that.

Fortier barely saw the ice in the second period.

Coach rolled four lines consistently last night. Yes the third and fourth lines have yet to get going but they are still working hard. In particular, I thought Meghan Papagno was all over the ice last night when she got the chance to be out there.

Banfield scored again as well. It's all about developing confidence for those players. I'm still waiting for Cone and Michaud to break out, but they are both used to playing on the top lines with Fortier and Leclerc who certainly make life easier.

Let's see how tonight goes. I've got a feeling players like Parsons, Gibson, Michaud, and Cone might get on the board finally. The scary thing about Michaud is once she gets going, she scores in bunches.

Well I guess that was more my point was to get a better idea of how things went. I didn't get a chance to watch the game and was kind of looking for some insight into ice time situations and whatever. I mean I realize they were up by a lot early. But it's hard to know from a box score that Fortier would have barely gotten ice time.

And to Franchise...I wasn't "starting this." I'm pretty sure everyone knows where I stand on situations like that, so for my own sake, I just wanted a better idea of the situation. If it was your daughter who was a -1 in an 11-1 win wouldn't you feel a little frustrated?

Of course I would feel frustrated - but I wouldn't hold it against Norwich. Look, I'm no Norwic apologist - can't say I'm even a fan of theirs. But I don't fault them for scoring. I understand your point, though.

Having seen NEC last weekend and yesterday, NEC played a whale of a game against the Cadets and I was very impressed with how well they blocked shots. In particular, Jamie Tabb diving in front of a Kayla Parsons' slapshot is a death wish. She popped right back up. Kudos to her.

Sophie is off to an unreal start. Hope she can keep it up and be in the running for the Hurd award.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Sorry...I'm having troubling hearing you over the sound of you tooting your own horn

You've been awfully bitter this year Trots...Is it because the Islanders are never going to be good again? :)

Simply trying to make people aware that the Wick game was going to be webcasted since it was not on the Norwich athletics page until yesterday. I figured the fan base would like to know of something like that.

Geez...for as "bitter" as I've gotten, you've become that much more sensitive. Cadet lifestyle making you a little rigid?

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey

Thoughts from the weekend:

7-for-11 on the PP...yay!
Both games were webcasted bringing Norwich's total to five of six games so far this year webcasted (how you like me now, nyi? ;))...
Jacqueline Perez/Rundlett step up in a big way on Saturday to help lead the team in its first game without Sophie Leclerc, ever? IIRC (hockeydaddy?)

Got to develop that killer instinct and not play down to the opponents level at times.
NU Faced 19 shots...gave up five goals.
Erin vs Catie Banfield...round one went to Erin.

I don't think I've ever seen a team as good at deflections and tip shot as this year's Cadets. They have been doing a tremendous job getting traffic in front of the net and getting their sticks on pucks to wreak havoc on goaltenders.

14 players on the scoresheet vs Plymouth State including eight goals by eight different players.

Sarianne Lynn and Amanda Wilks have become quite the impressive D-pair when they are out on the ice together.

Still can't wait for the day that Parsons breaks out.

NU will finally have its full team together this week as three girls come back from soccer after they lost 3-2 to UMass Boston on Wednesday in the ECAC East quarterfinals. Also, one goalie is just about ready to kickoff play in the women's rugby Northeast Region championship game up at Bowdoin at 10:00 a.m. NU is facing Stonehill.

Rugby Update: Norwich defeats Stonehill 17-14 to claim back-to-back Northeast Championships! NU advances to the national tournament, which will be played in the spring.

Oh hey Prez...been out in the woods with my howitzer chasing deer... she did miss a MIT match a couple of years ago, due to a slight injury from the Holy Cross game the day before... as I recall anyway.

IMHO, Parsons and Guay are 1 and 2 or vise versa, although we have 6 d that can take us to the big game in March of "11. I'm forecasting 4 points this weekend but the three games after that (Platty, Trinity and Amherst) will tell us where we are at, going into the new year. One thing for sure, we will need better goaltending than last weekend.

On a lighter note, Sophie's USAF brother will be in attendance this weekend, visiting before his SEA deployment.

Outstanding.

Stop by and introduce me. You know where to find me ;). I'll be there all weekend with four total games over three days.

Have not been able to get to a game this year, but I hear grumblings about the goaltending from not only people on here but also some that I have run into. What is up? This is the same goalie that has been there the last 3 years, correct?? What gives?? Also I know they have Kelly Fisk as well and I did see her play for Syracuse Stars a couple times and she looked pretty good.........Goaltending has always been steady in the games that I have seen over the last 3 years....seems odd that it would get worse instead of better. Has Coach done anything different with her as far as prep ect and what about the other kid on the roster from Dawson??

Well, I don't think there's anything much different going on with respect to goaltending except that we lost our goalie coach. Think what you want but he made a difference IMHO. Beyond that, every goalie out there has let in a soft one here and there...the offense just needs to make up for it, that's all. As for the two freshman goalies, they have the skill sets, but just need some time to gain that level of confidence necessary for the big saves. I was surprised though that one of them did not start Saturday's UMASS game.

Boy, yesterdays game with St A was a good one. It was one of those where you control a good part of the game but can't seem to finish. Their goalie made some HUGE saves to keep it close.

I've mentioned in a prior post how our defense has improved from last year, and yesterdays 1st star went to #6, Sarianne Lynn. This kid picked up her game toward the end of last year and has not looked back since. She's currently the only D in the top 20 -30. http://www.uscho.com/stats/overall/division-iii-women/2010-2011/ Congrats to her.

A post game x-ray on Soph's wrist was negative. She took a slash in an altercation at the end of the second.
