Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

Congrats to you Ladies, way to stick with it by taking Elmira 2-1 in overtime. Who's next?

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

I hear there may be some unhappiness on this team and with Gove deciding to leave and I hear Rene Lortie deciding not to play (99 points in her 1st 3 years).....I tend to believe what I am hearing. Coach Maurice has moved on, you have a new young assistant coach, who was a great player, but that has nothing to do with being a good coach or a stable influence for a team that sounds like they need it. I think coach Bolding should be very happy if he gets out of the ECAC's this season, he may not even win the east if M'Ville has a say.....Not a great deal of tried and true playmakers here, a great scorer in Charrone but I do not think she will be enough. ....maybe he gets some mid semester players to come in or transfer???

Tora Tora Tora, well, Tori (Charron), but you get the idea. Congrats to NU for a game that could of gone either way but it was especially fitting that an ex Soaring Eagle would put the game away in her now famous tow drag, fake to the left and backhand to the right move. Oh, and great pic of her scoring from behind the net Mark!

Ok, so half of my prediction is now in the books so the only thing left is for St Thomas to take care of Platty Friday and for you non believers out there, it’s for the cup so anything can happen. :)

A classic today at Kreitzberg. Great to see that Guay was back from her injury. I thought the goal play was amazing at both ends; Marshall was there time and again and although Fairchild was not seeing as many pucks, Elmira had some high quality chances, and she kept the game close until the offense could cash in. A fitting ending for a great game with such a pretty goal by Charron. Kudos to the ref duo of White and Parsons for letting them play, not interfering with the flow of the contest and at the same time keeping the mayhem from getting out of hand.
Good Luck in Plattsburgh!

Watched this team quite a bit last year. From early fall workouts I was hearing sighs of relief because a certain player left and another decided not to play. Great senior leadership on this team. I see a team moving the puck unselfishly. That usually is the product of a stable lockeroom.

Here's an interesting take on your "stable locker room" theory: I witnessed a team a while back whose members absolutely hated each other...there were off ice fights; me versus her incidents; girls who wouldn't play with certain other girls, etc etc. And the result? A National Championship. I've never seen anything like it and never have been able to explain it!!

It happens, but it is rare.... more normally the winner is a cohesive team...

If that's true. I'm sure whoever the coach was of that team isn't now demanding team descension so he or she can produce a winner. A team that might of won not liking each other isn't an interesting theory as it is just a rare event.

Sounds like the celebration must have been a blast.

Thinking on this a little, I could envision it working to some degree for a short period. It's possible if you could get like-minded members on a line, each line would be trying to out-perform every other line on the team, making the whole greater than the sum of the parts.

I don't think it is a long term deal, but who knows?

Would you have posted the same thing if NU lost in OT yesterday. Highly doubt it.!!!

My point is that NU was one OT goal away from not making it to the FF. Last year they lost in the Quarters in OT, while this year they won in OT.

Always ironic to see people not in the locker room commenting on the locker room. Just saying.

For the record, I was commenting generically on something that seemed an interesting take. It was not related to any specific team or result.

Winning and losing via OT is directly related to the parity in the East. The NCAA has set it up this way so the west can have a chance. Norwich didn't lose last year because of those players that are no longer there were on the team. They lost because they got outplayed. I was just responding to the opinion of the poster from October. With the three senior defenseman Norwich has, I can't see how anyone could think they would barely make it out of the ECAC.

To answer your question. Regardless if they won or lost. I still would of posted my opinion after coming across that October post.

I think on paper Norwich had more talent last year.

I disagree. The team last year had no instinct to move the puck. Did not like to use the point. There were alot of pucks being thrown at the net. The team in place this year hasn't not shown up for a game. Even in the tough losses against Plattsburg, especially the second game they played hard. If both teams are good enough to meet in the final. I would expect better goaltending from Fairchild this time around. River falls loks like they can score, Norwich's D will have to be on.

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

Well, it's good to see some chatter here, for a while I was begining to think I was the only poster left here. :)

Look, who cares what they were or were not last season, more importantly, what will they look like next season is more point but that should be left for post-season entries. Meanwhile, back to the season at hand, it's obvious this current team has great chemistry going for them, and with Fairchild peaking, this program has as good a chance as any taking that gold trophy home (again).

Now, who has the skinny on our next opponent... this Wis Stevens Point team. How did they get here? Do they have some stud or something we should know about?
