Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

"The embarrassment is that any east team should beat a west team by at least 10 goals. The fact that it took Plattsburgh 75 minutes to score one is embarrassing."

haha...this is rich...made me laugh out loud! Love it when the west gets all its feathers ruffled up!! Makes for inane comments like this! :)

My feather's aren't ruffled...just enjoying the banter. Looks like Norwich is rock solid today! The national title game was yesterday afternoon

Re: Norwich Women's Hockey ... 2013-2014

I can think of about 50 other D3 programs that would have loved to of been at this year's Frozen Four in Plattsburgh so just being there was a real tribute to the School, hockey program and to the players, coaches and staff, (including the SID) so congrats to them for a 2nd place finish in the nation... not too bad considering some thought we would not get past ECAC weekend! :)

So, how do we get a mascot like the Tommies?? :rolleyes:

Not sure about the Tommie's mascot, but that has to be the largest crowd ever for a DIII women's hockey championship. Official count...1619. Thank You to all....it was a Great weekend for sure.

I think Elmira actually holds the record with a little over 2,000. I will say, I think that number was inflated back then though.

Wasn't inflated...I was there...needed a shoe horn to get a seat. That was before they put in the new seats. They could wedge more people in on the bench seating back then. BTW, Plattsburgh won then too. (All three Championships have been won on home ice.)

:confused: How can Plattsburgh win at home in Elmira ?.

Sorry...I thought he was referring to Plattsburgh. I know there's been over 2,000 to Plattsburgh games cuz I was there on at least two occasions when it was that high. Plattsburgh led the nation in DIII attendance this year, but I can't seem to find attendance records for individual games.

The attendance figures are in the box scores on college stats. Neither of the Platty championship games you referred to came close to 2000 spectators, 1333 in 2007 and only 873 in 2008. Yesterday's 1619 easily trumps those numbers.

2007: 1333 http://collegehockeystats.net/0607/boxes/wmidplt1.m17

2008: 873 http://collegehockeystats.net/0708/boxes/wmanplt1.m22

2014: 1619 http://collegehockeystats.net/1314/boxes/wnrwplt1.m22

RIT attendance in the 2010 game vs Norwich was 1350.
http://collegehockeystats.net/1011/boxes/wnrwrit1.m19

2003 Championship game at Elmira was 2110.
http://collegehockeystats.net/0203/boxes/welmman1.m22

2002 Championship game at Elmira was 1100.
http://collegehockeystats.net/0102/boxes/welmman1.m09

2005 Championship game at Elmira was 2335. (Middlebury won that one)
http://collegehockeystats.net/0405/boxes/welmmid1.m19

So based on the games I checked, come up with this order:

2005 Championship game at Elmira, 2335;
2003 Championship game at Elmira, 2110;
2014 Championship game at Plattsburgh, 1619;
2010 Championship game at RIT 1350;
2007 Championship game at Plattsburgh, 1333;
2002 Championship game at Elmira 1100;

I checked a few other championship games (RIT in 2011, Middlebury in 2004), but they were all under 1000.

There were couple of "Stuff Stafford" regular season games that the students really filled the place up. That's what I was referring to.

Thanks for the research!

As I was saying, I was at all three of the championships at Elmira and while they were extremely well attended, especially that 2005 one, I'm pretty sure those numbers were a little padded. Regardless, outstanding to see the numbers back then and then the surge up again recently, including an incredible crowd on Saturday night at the Stafford....If there's one thing Plattsburgh loves, it's their Cardinal Hockey period. Men or women doesn't matter anymore.
