Re: WDEV-FM Question

Re: WDEV-FM Question

Prez with the freshmen reporting to Norwich this weekend can you provide us with any info on the new recruits. I have noticed that is only one player on the D3 recruit list from Western Canada, Ben Morgan, and was curious to see if there were any more driving in from out west. From the D3 recruit list it looks like St. Norbert's has some great recruts and in the ECAC E both Babson and Castleton appear to have some good talent coming too. A lot of Norwich best players this year will be seniors also.

Arrival day for non-fall sports is still another week away.

Once student-athletes arrive on campus and are enrolled in classes we plan on putting out an incoming recruits release for men's and women's ice hockey that I'll be sure to share on here.

It is a big year this year with five top forwards all set to graduate next spring. Hopefully they can go out the way they came in...On top.

Rooks arrive this weekend, too. Nephew is one of them.

Do you know that August is National Golf Month? ;)

Absolutely, and I have been visiting this property with some regularity in recent weeks, while reporting my results to this service of the USGA

I can do the link game, too, especially when it comes to golf-related topics :D - there is a semi-pun in there related to a frequently misapplied term for a type of golf course.

White tees? Man after my own handicap! I think I am mid 20's. Since this is my first year, I'll start getting a rating next year after I figure out how to play this game.

I've been playing the blue/white blend combo, which gives old guys like me a boost on the par 5's. We watch the twins on M T R, which gives me W F to play golf - I haven't been rained out yet.

Prez I have a question about scrimmage's in D3. I noticed that Norwich football team is going to scrimmage Plymouth in football Friday at 2:00PM; the question is can Norwich hockey scrimmage Castleton or NEC the same way before the season starts. If not why the different rules for the two sports?

Hawk ... my question is why would they want to?

get a look at your new and borderline players??
That's what the pink bunnies with cinnamon rolls and other stuff, plus the games vs. Dartmouth and Three Rivers are for. Unless Coach McShane has lost it, he has a chart already in his office where every recruit and current player is "slotted". The time before the 1st game will be spent on adjusting the slots to get them back to Lake Placid.

Since the New England Patriots are in Tampa right now to practice with the Bucks for 2 days before the game on Friday, I believe many coaches find value in going against a different system and players before the season starts. I observed the Pats/Saints practice at Foxborough a couple of weeks ago and from I could see both teams practiced hard but under control. I am not sure a scrimmage would work for D3 hockey but brought it up since there are so many D3 schools that play hockey with 60-70 miles of Norwich.

I don't know what Norwich has coming in for recruits this year but would guess there is going to a lot of competition for roster spots after the first 2 lines. I not sure if anyone is going to beat St. Norbert's with the type of recruits they are finding in the higher level Junior A leagues and D1 transfers they seem to pick up every year.

If an NFL coach wants to see how their players and systems perform against professional-quality teams, then practicing and playing (in preseason games) against other NFL teams is their ONLY option. And NCAA DIII coach has plenty of options... playing NCAA DI teams (even if that DOES count as one of your 25 allowed games...) and playing Canadian teams (like UQTR) are valid options that they can use to accomplish the same thing. There are far more cons to playing DIII teams for scrimmaging than playing non-NCAA teams. The reason it happens in the NFL is because they have no other options.

Whatinthehell do you think the Dartmouth and Trois Rivieres games are? Why would you show a team you might play three times what your lineup is any earlier than necessary?

Re: WDEV-FM Question

Responding to calls from the NFL for better officials during the lockout, the Norwich Corps of Cadets does its part:

Re: WDEV-FM Question

Re: WDEV-FM Question

I just went on line and renewed our season tickets. It certainly makes it easy when this can be done from your couch while watching your Red Sox try to cough up another game. :)

Hopefully the Cadets can make it back to LP again this year and close out their season with a victory. As a Cadet fan for the last 14 years I have only missed their final four games when the games were held out west. With the proposed (2014)NCCA format in having the Div III Final tied in with Div I Frozen Four I do not anticipate attending the DIV III Final. The only good news about the proposed change is I do not have to schedule my winter vacation around the possibility of the Cadets making it to the Championship game.
