Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Czarnota's save of the year was just absolutely amazing! I sat on the blue line and had a clear look at the shooter, it was a wide open net and I couldn't even see Chris. How did he do that? My first thought was they were going to call it a goal because his glove seemed to travel back toward the net. However, on the WCAX replay, his arm/glove never crossed the goal line. Incredible save. I can't remember the last time a goalie got a standing ovation (except Klinger in the NCAA win over ST. Norberts). Great work Chris.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I see these ECAC-E Championship playoffs as a real rock 'n roll show. Perhaps the most competitive in recent memory.

Where were Skidmore and UMass-Boston during the first half of the season? I see that game next week between those two clubs as a very dangerous match up regardless of who wins--and dangerous for who has to face them as one of them advances. And Babson was no slouch either this weekend as they skated, played and went nose to nose a full 65 minutes with the Cadets to that stand off tie. This could be a very tight finish for our Cadets--and I wish them well.

Any one care to predict how the first round of the ECAC-E will come down?

You aren't kidding.

I know on paper the ECAC East doesn't stack up with too many conferences but let me tell ya, there are some GOOD hockey teams playing strong hockey right now in this league.

Babson, Skidmore, UMass-Boston, Norwich and Castleton could all easily put a run together in this one IMHO. Heck NEC isn't too shabby either. Wish I could be at every quarterfinal game this weekend because there are some doozies set to be on tap.

I Agree this ECAC EAST Tournament will be one of the most competitive in years and whomever advances as Tournament winner could cause trouble in NC$$

IMO, the conference resembles the SUNYAC with Norwich and Castleton playing the part of Oswego and Plattsburgh. The ECAC-East has 10 in-conference tied games to the SUNYAC's 6 ties resulting in a higher WIN% for the some of the individual teams, but overall similar in-conference disparity. I too wish I could be at every quarterfinal game this weekend

Anna Grearson of the Times Argus had a good article on the Norwich/Babson game Saturday (protected site). In the article Coach Mike McShane had a few comments about the defense throwing the puck away and leaving rebounds out front. He also stated we are a good team, but we're only a good team when we work our tail offs. He also talked about when you are considered one of the best teams you have got to expect teams to play very hard and do there best against you as Babson did. Also Norwich keep trying to pass the puck up the boards when Babson always had the play covered which gave Babson more time in the zone.

But from the Dartmouth game at the start of the season until the Babson game Saturday it has been an outstanding regular season for Norwich hockey and there fans. Good luck in the ECAC East playoffs.

I posted this on the ECAC East Playoff thread....

I think you may see quite a few "upsets" in the quarter-Final round....I do think Norwich should handle UNE but this is a UNE team that just took Babson into OT and almost upset UMB last weekend: two teams that gave Norwich all it could handle Friday and Sat.....#2 CSC is 2-3-2 in their last 7 games(not the way you want to finish) and it all started with a tie against NEC....#3 Babson has lost twice to USM during the regular season: should be an interesting game:The #4/#5 game is a toss up: but Skidmore has beaten UMB twice during the regular season...

My Predictions:

Norwich 4 UNE 1 (if UNE stays out of the sin bin)

NEC 3 CSC 2 in OT

USM 3 Babson 2 in OT

Skidmore 4 UMB 3 in OT

I could be way off but I do think the parity in the league is getting smaller and smaller....Once UNE gets it's new rink: look out, they could become the new CSC....

At least we know who is the real rival, Babson.
NU56

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I took a look at the playoff match ups and agree this could be a free for all. If you look at the last five games played by each team Skidmore is the hot team coming in and NEC has the worst record. Norwich and UMass have second best record followed by Castleton, Babson, and Maine.

  • Norwich is 2-0 against UNE
  • Castleton is 1-0-1 against NEC
  • Babson is 0-2 against USM
  • Skidmore is 2-0 against UMass
Yes the Cadets did look a little tired against Babson, but the Beavers played St Mikes on a small ice sheet the night before while UMass skated right with the Cadets on the larger ice surface. Should Babson and the Cadets meet again in the Playoffs Babson most likely would be coming off a game with Castleton, we would then see what kind of jump they have left. Everything points to a great tournament, should be the best in years.

HEY PREZ,
Any update on tickets for this weekend?

UPDATE: There was a snafu with the ticket company not setting up season ticket holders correctly and the link has been taken down.

I'll let you know when they go back up and are available.

Thanks Crosby, just got my seat. Why are there so few seats and none available together? I was expecting more options but I am happy with the seat I got. Good thing I only needed one.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

We are required by the ECAC to hold a percentage of our seats for the visiting team. UNE has requested 150 seats so that is what we have saved. Should they notify us that they do not want all the seats we will release them for sale.

While I don't have any direct knowledge of Norwich's seating, I suspect the difficulty in getting seats together is the same as at Plattsburgh, season ticket holders chop up the seating. Two years ago I increased my Plattsburgh season tickets from 5 to 8, at that time there were only 3 or 4 groups of 3 seats together, luckily 1 set was good seats.

Correct, and for playoffs, a double edged sword for purchasers. Buy early, and get what isn;t reserved, or wait until after Thursday, when the season tickets that were NOT purchsed for the playoffs become available.
