Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Wow what a great game last nite. I do belive we have a modern day rival. The castleton fans obviously dont like us. I saw csc students that had shirts that said "NUCK FORWICH"? I saw a lot of bickering between nu & csc fans. Middlebury will always be a NU rival but why cant we have two? Montreal canadiens have the bruins and maple leafs as rivals. One more question what happend to all the castleton fans that were posting last year? After the first lost to NU this year they disapeared. A couple of them came out of the woodwork when posters were bashing THOMAS (BY THE WAY HAD TWO GOALS LAST NITE) Win or lose NU fans post and support their team

You see a little different crowd at Castleton than you would see at places like Norwich, Plattsburgh, or Middlebury that have had hockey teams for a much longer period of time. The fans for sure are a litle more animated and the tea shirts were a little over the top but put it all together and it makes for an exciting hockey game. The fans in Rutland country rearlly get into hockey and are passionate about there Spartans. But give Castleton credit since they had a large number of people working the game to keep everying in check. Some people criticize Spartan Arena but I think it is a great place to watch a hockey game, plenty of parking, very clean facility, bathrooms, and a good snack bar (plus mall to do some shopping). No question this is the top rivalry for Norwich followed closely by Plattsburgh. I not sure in Plattsburgh is coming to Rutland to play the Spartans but that would also be a game not to me missed.

What colors did you wear to the game yesterday Hawk? Or did you secretly wear your colors under your coat. :D

Some people criticize Spartan Arena but I think it is a great place to watch a hockey game, absolutely horrible sight lines plenty of parking, very clean facility, bathroomslonger line than I remember before we fixed that at Kreitzberg, and a good snack bar (plus mall to do some shoppingIf I wanted to go shopping, I'd go shopping). No question this is the top rivalry for Norwich followed closely by PlattsburghErrr....no. I not sure in Plattsburgh is coming to Rutland to play the Spartans but that would also be a game not to me missed.

Prof you have got to understand that Spartan Arena is there house and I have no problem with Castleton having center ice for there fans just like Norwich does for there fans. If you attended more games at Castleton like me you would know that the way to get a good seat is to get there early and put a blanked down to reserve a couple of seats. I got to the game at 2:30PM and was suprised to see that a lot of good seats were already taken. No problem I just moved to another section and placed my blanked down on a top section and had great seats. I like Castleton because Spartan Arena is a fun place to watch a game and the fans and players are friendly. After the start of the first period yesterday I was ready to make Motel reservations at the Quality Inn for the ECAC E playoffs. Question why doesn't Castleton play there A++ game against Plattsburgh like they do against Norwich? This was a different team than what I saw play at the Cardinal Clasic.

Center ice is not where I want to sit anyway. Watching a game from center ice puts you too far away from the action. I like to sit inside the zone where my team is attacking twice, but have a good view down the ice to the other end. In that area you see the hits, the shots and the goalie play. From center ice, you don't see the action at either end. At the "tyvek" arena, the seats in that zone are positioned so that you are looking straight ahead instead of at an angle to the ice, where you could be looking straight ahead to see the game at both ends of the ice. It's not that they couldn't have rearranged the bleachers with a little thought. As for blankets, this tells me that Castleton people learned their pregame etiquette from Middlebury :D

On a totally different subject. The Caps are playing the Rangers on the NBC Sunday game of the week, and Keith Aucoin has gotten some ice time.

a little off here but not sure if Pierre Mcguire was on today, between the benches, but hes a former Hobart statesmen, and his bro played on my prep team......both good guys

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Yes he did, as a player at The Hill school I went to Hobart on a recruitment trip, not for me but a buddie on my team, and as I said his brother was a goalie on our team at The Hill, we stayed at his frat what a blast we had, not to mention the snow storm we had to drive home in...never know who knows who........

Latest USCHO rankings are in. Norwich dropped to 2nd in the nation due to the loss against Skidmore on Friday night.

With the last two games of the regular season this weekend. I look forward to our Cadets in the playoffs

Prez That may be so. I have to admit the Castleton game was dramatic to watch.

As a CSC fan, I have to throw my two cents into this conversation. What I think Norwich fans forget to realize is that the fan base for CSC is student based. I'm 25 and did not to go to CSC but I've grown up in Rutland and played my high school games at Spartan Arena(formerly known as Rutland Fieldhouse). I've watched the Castleton program go from a team that my high school could beat easily to a D3 contender in less than a decade. Fans are still forming and with the school continuing to grow and flourish in other sports outside of just hockey I believe it will take some time to grow a more "seasoned" fan base. If you went to the game on Saturday you noticed that all the Norwich fans were AARP card caring members. In 30 or 40 years there probably won't be any Norwich fans at the Norwich CSC game anymore. while I haven't been to Kreitzburg since my youth hockey playing days, hopefully I can make it to the ECAC E playoffs. Would it be safe to say more CSC students come to watch at Norwich, then Norwich students come to watch at CSC? That's actually a question, because I don't actually know, and you guys would since you have seen a lot of CSC/Norwich games at Kreitzburg. As for the forum posts, that is probably why you haven't seen a lot of CSC posters...we are all kids compared to you guys. We have jobs, lives, girlfriends, sports(we still play in, including mens league hockey at spartan arena!), and for some school work still, and posting daily on a d3 hockey forum isn't a priority. Over time I'm sure we will see more fans emerge here and hopefully stick around. Honestly, I just post here for the pick'ems now, gives me something to do to break up the day and help keep up with other teams in d3.

You are all right about one thing, Castleton still needs to prove themselves, and losing by a combined 5 goals in 4 games to Platty and Norwich this year is not going to do it. They need to win the ECAC E, and make it to the NCAA playoffs. They need to play better competition year in and year out and stay consistent. Anybody can have a few good years with a good class of players, but what makes a team standout is sustained strength. As for the Nuck Forwich shirt, I thought that was hilarious, and the only negative I had about it was that I didn't come up with it first. I respect Norwich and the skill they have. They were number 1 all year for a very good reason(still are in my mind), but much like my feelings for the Red Sox, I hope you guys lose each week, especially when you play CSC. I look forward to seeing a 60 year old Norwich fan wearing a "Cuck Fastleton" shirt in the future. I promise if I see that, I'll shake that persons hand with a smile on my face :).
