Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Okay Peach ... enough Chittenden County trashing! Some of us call it home and ARE PROUD OF IT! If I hear it isn't part of Vermont one more time I think I'm going to scream!

I spoke with Dave Ogrean of U-S-A Hockey today and he said the thing they like is everything within very close proximity ... Burlington has hotels, facilities and fans all within close range ... as to our great D-3 buildings they don't want to have to travel forty minutes (Middlebury) or an hour (Kreitzberg) to games. Clearly those are better facilities but they say that wasn't their number one criteria ... Frankly I would have thought that they might have gone with Leddy (bigger capacity) as the backup rink ... but the people at Cairns run a good house (the hole in the ice the night the Cadets were there not withstanding) ... and they'll do a good job.

Exactly like I said :) Just in more words.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

How are you planning on getting yours?

Also, why should the Gut update? It's one of the true old time hockey barns left in the country. Why does everything have to be state of the art facilities. Old rinks that are properly maintained are great and what college hockey should be all about. Leave the state of the art new arena stuff to the pros.

Prez the last time Norwich played Castleton at the Mall Rink you had to drive down to Castleton or the Mall Rink during the week when the tickets went on sale. Since Castleton is a 1 hour and 45 minutes +- one way not many fans choise the option. I believe the game was a sell out a day or two before the game and this year with Castleton and Norwich's record the interest in the game should be even higher. Castleton has done a good job with rink improvements, however, the seating capacity hasn't been increased. I plan to drive to Rutland to buy a few tickets.

Is 862 a sellout? Because it's not listed as one.

Granted, I think you are right that this year the ticket demand will probably be higher given the rivalry the two schools are starting to develop across all sports and not just hockey. It certainly helps though now that Castleton looks like they've taken the next step and are truly an elite team in the country now.

Charlie, Maybe the next name that Hawk will use is called Spartacus to pump up his Ego:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm thinking it should be Welcher. We will have a limited number of tickets to sell here at Norwich for the Castleton game. Those who do not owe something, example Hawk, will be able to purchase a ticket here. Stay tuned to time and date of sale.

Same as I said in post #673. BTW, George, do you remember when I lived across the street from you on Ward St?

I'm old ... I don't remember where Ward Street is ... lol

Really Peach? When was that? I'm not putting name and neighbor together.

Old North End, 1987-88, You were in the yellow house on the corner of Ward and ??? I was across the street on Ward in the really strange painted green, pink & purple (I think) house.

Guess what ... I still live in the yellow house ... corner of Ward and Drew ... been there 25 1/2 years ... That was back in my UVM days ... next time you're back in VT let me know and we'll give you a tour ... you'll be amazed ... the neighborhood has come a long way!

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

I missed most of the game against Wesleyan. What happened in the second period to allow 4 unanswered Wesleyan goals?

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Dubois gave them the empty net, no one is sure where Dubois was going. Next two very soft goals later it was 3-0. The 4th goal was on PP, not much alex could do.

Soft goal or not, there's not much any goaltender can do when his team doesn't score...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Disappointing to have a period with three "soft" goals. Norwich SOG 47 Wesleyan 19

Quite a roller coaster season thus far... definitely did not see a loss to Wesleyan tonight. Not be to too critical of Dubois, but is there any reason Carroll isn't seeing more time? And a while ago there was mention of Norwich losing their top goalie recruit; what was the story behind that?

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

No story the kid just decided not to come....Carroll played the third tonight and most likely will be between the pipes tomorrow. I was just a disappointed in the offense as the goal tending. Had we scored a couple in the first period it might have been a different story, better luck tomorrow or we are going to find ourselves out of first place.

Even with great indiviual forwards Norwich's season proves you have to have all the pieces in place to be productive. I believe Coach Emery of Plattsburgh was quoted as saying that you are only as good as your goaltender-so true. With 4 goaltenders on the roster maybe one of them will step up and carry NU into the playoffs. The lack of scoring with so many shots is hard to figure.

If you wish to read a different version of the game, just go to the Wesleyan site, under athletics, men's hockey an you will find out what Dubois was thinking at the time of the "empty net" goal. NU56
