Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

scoring 15 goals on the road for the weekend and giving up only 6....I would say that is a very impressive performance. Now I certainly admit that neither Saint A's or NEC showed me much. I like the way the offense has come together and the way the defense is moving the puck out of our zone. Big games ahead of us....drop the puck.

Norwich really, really impressed me with their 5 on 3 powerplay . Wow !
It is amazing what an impact being up two men for 3-4 minutes has on a pretty decent hockey game up to that point.

You mean because the earlier 5 on 3 for St. A's allowed them to pull within a goal of Norwich. Yeah, if St. A's hadn't committed those infractions, it might have been closer, or might have ended 7-4.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

I don't know what would have been the outcome, but I do know St.A's wouldn't have been outshot 18 to 2.Being down 2 men for over two minutes takes a lot out of any team for the whole period.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Winning two games on the road against interlock compeition is a great weekend in my book. NEC just doesn't look as strong as in past years when they were often a top 15 team. St. A's is a good team but couldn't match Norwich's speed and debth. Sulivan Arena has to be a top 5 D3 arena in New England; wish St. A's could get the NCAA elegibility mess squared away. In the interlock it looks like the Vermont rivals Norwich and Castleton will battle for the ECAC East title.

If you do the crime, you serve the time. St. A. got a little undisciplined there for a stretch and it cost them.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Is anybody, other than me, concerned that Carroll only made 10 saves? Gave up 4 goals?

I wasn't at the game so I can't comment.

However, it wouldn't shock me if coach split the two goalies again next weekend.

The nice thing is that it appears the offense has finally gotten going. 13 guys on the scoresheet last night.

How great have Janke and Duszynski been? You could make a legitimate argument that Janke is the MVP of the team right now. It's tough between him and Scott Schroeder.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Lets let the goaltending situation play out a little before criticizing the goalies. Both have played well at times but also been inconsistent. By the end of the year we should know if more improvement is needed. Although Norwich has not dominated against good competition they are still one of probable 7-8 teams that are capable of going all the way. Castleton will be the big test a a couple of weeks.

I heard Spartan Arena is enforcing a no-welcher policy that night so you better pay up your bet if you wish to go watch your two favorite teams play.

A couple of years ago tickets were almost impossible to get unless you went directly to the college since the arena only seats about 1,000. You have to hustle a little if you want to get in the seat.

Still can not understand why some people are so critical of the goalie situation for Norwich. None of the goalie have played that many college games. In any event the situation isn't going to change before the end of the year. For the future I do hope they can improve there defensive play before facing Dartmouth next fall.

IMHO, improving the defensive play for an exhibition game with Dartmouth next fall is about as important as getting it fixed for the Maroon and Gold or Alumni games. There is a lot more hockey to be played this season. I may be slightly optimistic, but it seems we will have many more important games before then, including, I hope, some playoff and maybe NCAA games.

By the way, why don't you just pay up on your bet with Charlie! Think of all the giga bites of internet space that could be saved if we did not have to keep talking about someone who does not honor their wager obligations.

Now there is a great post!!!!!!!!!!:D:D I have asked the man right to his face when he plans on paying up and get no answer.

But that would also remove one of the major topics of conversation in this thread. We'll never get this thread locked if we can't talk about that any more

Congradulations to Chris Duszynski for being named ECAC East rookie of the week for his fine play against NEC and St. A's.

In reference to college hockey has anyone noticed that the World Women's Hockey Champonship will be held in Burlington in 2012. Just a thought but it is hard to figure that games will be played at Carins when Middlebury and Norwich have such great hockey facilities which are far superior than what there is at UVM. Also both Norwich and Middlebury have good womens hockey programs.
