Norwich 2024-25-Is this the year it turns?

Just checking the board to see if he resigned in shame yet for making a fast, playmaking , working hard team into a big slow team.

Remind me who was doing the recruiting a few years back.... imho - Steve has been given such tight guardrails by Ellsworth that he can't get the players he would want. This team looks nothing like what the "mad scientist" created... yet they were successful.

Certainly does not make a person want to give any money to the program. Hard to even be a fan with that scheme. Frustrating!
Steve certainly fits the mad scientist role (-and some other colorful descriptions!) - the man’s assistant!

He certainly brought in some great talented players!

I'll miss playing in the same conference as Norwich . I hope you figure out how to get the program back to your expectations. I saw some very good Norwich players on Sunday but they became tired as Hobart's depth showed as well as having the advantage of the earlier game on Saturday. You have a great Hockey tradition and beautiful facility, good luck in the future conference.

Hobart certainly has ascended to the standard all programs are now chasing. The incredible run of success Coach Taylor has had is nothing short of remarkable.

I'm hoping NU will get its feet back underneath them in the new conference and perhaps Hobart will still make a trip out at some point to participate in the Layer Eight or the Northfield Savings Bank tourneys.

Definitely going to miss seeing the Elmira, Hobart and Skidmore games on the schedule next year.

I liked occasionally (when my schedule allowed) to hop over to Hobart to see them play Elmira and Norwich.

Well things are changing for the Cadets, and the search for new head coaches will (has?) started! Both the men’s and women’s head coaches have stepped down.

There are a number of former players who could be considered for the position. Hopefully the search progresses quickly.

Why is the job listed as a .833 FTE position? Is this normal? Is this what's it's been? Is this going to hurt us in the search?

10/12 = .833.

Is this because it's technically listed as a "teaching" position (I know the SUNYAC schools lists coaches like that) and thus the school year is 10 months long?

If so, it may not matter in terms of salary. After all, schools hire teachers and professors on the same basis, and need to be competitive with salaries to get people. But, coaches are still going to work over the summer (while a professor may not) for such things like recruiting.

I don't see how you can blame President Schneider. When he left, the money was still there. It is more likely that COVID expenditures were the problem.
Schneider did a great job of playing the shell game, and then, he was solely focused on the bicentennial… his personal vanity project. He took his eye off the ball ( and puck) in order to keep the alums giving: enrollment was struggling, debt was increasing, and the inmates were not happy. Unfortunately he did not have the ability to say “Stop, let’s revisit where we’re spending our money “… this was the undoing of Norwich across the board.

Any thoughts on young alumni in the coaching world getting an opportunity? TyP? Thieda? Paul Russell's been an assistant at some good programs. Just thinking outside the box from the normal names

In the alum group Dawes is the most experienced coach hands down. If he's not interested I would love them to get someone else with D3 head coaching experience.

There will be a strong applicant pool, and there have been some big names already mentioned in Andrews Hall. Regardless on your thoughts on Cam, hopefully the loss of both coaches on the same day serves as a wake up call to the administration that expectations without the tools/resources required doesn't work. I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter who we hire if the financial aid situation doesn't improve. Today's players/families place a HEAVY emphasis on price/debt and if they get a better deal, 99% of the time they're taking it. If talented players can't afford/don't want to pay for Norwich, there won't be much change.

I'm more concerned that no one will actually WANT the job once they dig into the details of the current financial aid policies. Again, hopefully the St. Patrick's Day Massacre opens some eyes to the reality of the situation.

Dawes got a crack last time, and the word is the NCAA violations at Neumann were a black mark against him; just what I've heard. I cannot confirm nor deny.

Finally, I know for a fact both Cam and Sophie are very hopeful that their decisions to step away will result in their successors taking over much better situations from an administration standpoint. We can all want to compete for national championships, the coaches can want to, but if the administration doesn't realize what it takes (especially in today's landscape with so many more schools investing in hockey), it ain't gonna happen.

I'm choosing to be optimistic that losing two well-paid coaches who reached their conference final will shake some people out of their slumber so we can return NU hockey to national prominence.

Nice hearing from Flint, who largely kept quiet this season.

Ask yourself, “Why would any coach, in any sport, want to come to Norwich right now?” Besides the facilities, there’s nothing else: no support from the administration, no support from admissions, no support from the Trustees, it’s cold there, and bringing a family to Central VT and Northfield certainly is not an upgrade for one’ a family.
Norwich can’t recruit for any sport currently. No money to offer, zero college life, and no end in sight. Movie nights for students sounds terrible. No downtown college life, and the town of Northfield is a $h1t-h0l3… if I’m a student-athlete with any skills looking for a place to go, Norwich and Northfield wouldn’t even be on my “safety schools” list. That’s the reality.
Good for Cam and Sophie for getting out of town while they have a decent resume… it won’t be soon for other sports’ coaches to do the same.

Northfield is not a $h1t-h0l3 and you're garbage for saying so.
Well, I drove north on Rte 12 recently after getting off the interstate and the road and surroundings need to be leveled and redeveloped. The trailer park on the left looks like a crack-den, and the downtown looks like it’s still in the 70s… the entire town good use a good flood again to wipe out the dilapidated buildings in and around the downtown. Head further north on rte 12 after the stop light and it gets worse. I’m just saying, why would any coach want to relocate their family to the area knowing the additional challenges with the athletic problems? Don’t take it personal… it’s not your fault Northfield is a dump!
