Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

Sometimes you just get beat. When was the last time NU was held to 2 shots in a period? The Cadets were simply outplayed.

Re: Norwich 14-15

So 5 shots in a period. Still a very impressive defensive effort from Middlebury. Norwich fans are used to the Cadets vastly outshooting their opponents.

Re: Norwich 14-15

They did outshoot Midd......25-20. Maybe not vast in your opinion?

Either way Middlebury held both Norwich (-10 from average) and Plattsburgh (-20 from average) a combined -30 shots on goal from their average. Pretty impressive defensive effort from Middlebury (where have we heard that before....)

Thank you, that's all I was trying to say.

Re: Norwich 14-15

I can't say that I wasn't surprised to see a flat NU team take the ice on Saturday. If I've seen it once I've seen it a hundred times - it's tough to get the team tamped back down and prepared to face a better opponent the night after putting on a drubbing. After making basically every shot count on Friday night, the Cadets just seemed flat on Saturday and couldn't muster any offense whatsoever. Credit Middlebury with executing a good defensive plan, but we didn't make it much of a game unfortunately.

One thing I noticed this morning is the huge gap in records in the ECAC-E with NU, UMB and Babson owning the top three spots by a huge margin. I know there has been a lot of talk since the Interlock ended about how competitive the ECAC-E is as a stand-alone division, but the records would suggest otherwise. Any thoughts on this?

The ECAC East may not be as strong top to bottom as it has been in recent years but the top three as good as they've been maybe ever?

The ECAC East has certainly never had three teams ranked in the top 6 at any point. Might they have been a bit overrated? Perhaps...but I'd venture all three are still top 10ish.

UMass Boston is a consistent goalie away from being the best team in the league IMHO.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Thanks Old Rook NU'66..........but if you are Old Rook, where am I in the Alumni Parade? I must be close to the oldest NU fan on this board. I've actually been on this board longer than it indicates, but I screwed up my computer and had to redo my registration. Maybe I should not have watched the Midd game instead of St. Mike's. But, we'll put this behind us and get ready for this weekend. Anybody know when was the last time Norwich was skunked?

Re: Norwich 14-15

I feel better now NU56, I thought I was the only one who screwed up my computer and had to re-do my registration !!!

Re: Norwich 14-15

Last time Norwich was shutout ... 11/30/13 ... vs Wisconsin Superior in the consolation of the Primelink in Plattsburgh (3-0) ...
Previous to that 2/28/08 in ECAC Quartercfinals vs UMass-Boston (1-0 in Overtime) at Kreitzberg.

UMass maybe a consistent goalie away from what they need...but I see by the ECAC-E stats that they continue to vie to lead the Conference in time spent in the penalty box. 15 minutes wasted...leaves them willing to give up 25% of the game time penalty killing. Great goal tending helps...but so does discipline. Note that NU and Babson both with strong goal tending...also are the least penalized.

Good point as well.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Second away-game weekend in a row coming, and 4 very important points in league play. No doubt the Cadets will come into the weekend looking to get back on pace offensively after the setback in Middlebury. On the flip-side, both UNE and Southern Maine will be hungry for points as well as bragging rights, so I don't suspect either will roll over in their own barn. Looking forward to another weekend of Wick hockey!

Re: Norwich 14-15

Practice has had a bit of an extra flare this week. I don't think you'll see Norwich get outworked this weekend.
