Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Nothing wrong with an 8 team league. If the D2s leave/are kicked out an eight team league is enough for an AQ, plus it add room for some ineteresting NC games.

ineteresting  - I think you have been watching to much Hogan's Hero's ;)

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Not convinced that travel is the over-riding concern here, but I'm sure it is a factor.

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Another factor to consider is the Southern Maine womens team is already in a league (ECAC) with Manhattanville and travel down to the NY Metro Area. I admit that Manhattanville would represent a big challange for the ECAC East teams but it could add a lot of excitement and to the league. It would be like the SUNY with Plattsburgh and Oswego in one league.

A little off-topic, but the same argument could be made if, say, Plattsburgh were to protest a (hypothetical) application by Neumann to join the SUNYAC :P

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Let's get back to the topic

M'ville vs. Adrian - my computer says M'ville
NU vs. Nichols - my computer say NU

Statswise, Adrian doesn't have as good a profile as they have had in the past

hockeyfan77 if the D2's leave in a couple of years as many have suggested what teams would you propose be added to the east? Plymouth, Curry, Wentworth, Western New England, Becker, ect. Heck the current road trip to Hamiliton and Skidmore would be longer than the trip to southern CT/NY Metro area for Portland area teams.

But they have travel partners, who would MVille be??? Traveling over 300 miles for one game is nuts (it would around 305). It's also not the only issue as Nu Prof stated. I can't really share the other issues at the moment but I think they are kind if obvious.

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Back on thread....I notice that the Norwich- Nichols game is the late game Friday, I thought that Coach McShane preferred to schedule the early game when he had the chance.

As I read all this, I cannot forget all the comparisons everone makes between D3 and D1. D1 teams many times travel over 1000 miles or more for 1 game. Keep this in mind while thinking about travel!

New Year's eve or not, it's still a weekday. If you want to put fannies in the seats, what time would you schedule the home team on a friday? 1pm or 4pm? :)

This is all about attendance ... winning the TA er...NSB title doesn't matter as much as say winning the ECAC East (AKA the Kreitzberg invitiational)

But when they go over 1,000 miles, they fly. Big difference!!! Sorry for high jacking the thread!!! Norwich should win this tourney .

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Well, as a fan, I'd take the early game. I'll bet there are a lot of fans that will be opting whether to do New Years Eve or hockey. I'd prefer the early game then go home, clean up, rest up, then do the NYE events.

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

Note the time of the championship game, it is over 24 hours after the end of the second game on Friday. Timing should not be a factor this year. If the Championshoip game awas at 4 pm, NU would have played at 1 Friday.

I'll be there for both. Don't get much of a choice ;)

No offense here but I took the location of each rink (who I could find available) to Manhatanvilles rink location and no schools would travel more then 300 miles to Manhatanville. Plattsburgh alone travels 5 of their 8 schools more then 300 miles, every year. You could also play a two game series with the team, and rotate home stands. Its funny that Southern Maine will travel 235 miles to Middlebury on a Tuesday night for one game, but wouldnt travel just an extra 50 miles to Manhatanville. The average ECAC East school would travel 235 miles to Manhatanville. Plattsburgh averages 312 miles. One game?? Plattsburgh to Elmira...350 miles. Plattsburgh to Curry 302 miles. Plattsburgh to Colby 320 miles. Plattsburgh to Manhatanville is still shorter then 5 of the 8 teams Plattsburgh plays every year...and thats just the SUNYAC...Id hate to figure out the NCHA or the other Western leagues....

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

It's 291 to Portland: USM plays in Gorham which is 10-15 miles from Portland: hence the 305. Plattsburgh spends a lot more on their hockey program than USM: hence lies the problem.

Mapquest: 37 College Ave, Gorham, ME 04038-1032 to 1 Playland Parkway, Rye, NY*10580 = 292.57 miles
Yahoo Maps: same as above = 293.15
Google Maps: same as above = 294 (288 down I-95)

And while Plattsburgh may put a few more $$$ into their program, an SM doesn't mind going to Middlebury (just 50 miles shorter) for a 1 game set....I'm sure the team could cut a few extra rolls of tape every other year for the extra gas....sorry the distance is a weak excuse.

Re: Northfield Savings Bank Tournament Week is Here

It's not an excuse. It's a one reason factored into many. I am pretty sure I stated that before. Bottom line if M Ville joins the E East you will lose current teams from the E East. I am pretty sure this discussion came up over the summer/fall at the ECAC meetings. Bottom line coming out is what I posted above.:M Ville in at least 3 teams out.
