Cronin also called York to ask permission for Ferriero to visit campus, so it sounded like he was being courteous enough. It'll likely make the BC-NU game on October 9th more interesting

FWIW, when I first read the USHR report on York calling Jerry Buckley, I thought about San Jose telling Cody to go somewhere else for more ice time right away.

It's certainly interesting that Cody was able to make a decision so quickly. I hope there was no tampering on the NU end.

yeah, if not having the privilege of playing for the preeminent college hockey program in America makes him happy ,as i said, good luck to him

not every kid wants to play for BC. Obviously him being one, as well as about 20 kids at BU and many from Ivy schools. That is one of the reasons BC gets the rep of being so arrogant. NU is a better fit and he will do well there

Hokydad, you are more arrogant than anything to do with BC.

You are certainly right that not everyone wants to play for BC, but there are also kids at other schools that probably wanted to play at BC.

Cody Ferriero DID want to play at BC.

it sounds like Cronin did all the right things...calling York, etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few hard feelings on York's part, and i really couldn't blame him if that's the case.

If NU is a better fit that's fine. But you have to wonder why he committed to BC if it wasn't a good fit and why he couldn't have figured it out when he committed a while back. It is sort of like Kenny Ryan (you mean, like, I have to go to class, didn't even expect that even though my dad and brother were football players at Notre Dame and Michigan) and of course, Chris Bourque (*drool* "..... durrrrrrr. My dad is Ray Bourque!"). None of these kids look very bright.

Great that they got out and stopped wasting people's time when they figured out that it wasn't going to work out but you have to question how they could not have come to these conclusions long before.

It doesn't seem like there was any tampering involved but you do have to wonder why York started making phone calls and if he knows something we don't... because he's not a finger-pointer that worries about what other people are doing like some other folks (Parker and the late Shawn Walsh). Even if there was tampering I wouldn't even care... I'm just glad BC got rid of this Ferriero turd.

no, but a lot do and HE DID and the subject is about him, not anyone else............. and,yes, stating the obvious, lots of kids want to play at BU as well. So i guess that the BU folk who rightly feel that it is a privilege to put the Scarlet and White on, and it is, are arrogant too? if you feel a strong sense of pride in your school/team, that's arrogance? oh, yeah, wait, that's right i forgot, it's Boston College, so it's arrogance

actions speak louder than words. If her DID, he would still be there.

He left 100% on his own and gave up a 2/4 doing it.

BC is an arrogant program, always has been, always will be.

So what, most winners and champions are.

the face of the program is Coach York. i would think there would be universal agreement that he is not arrogant, hence the program itself is not arrogant.........the concept of an "arrogant program" comes from those who don't belong to the program and are not fans of the program, obviously......as for Michigan, 9 NC's speaks for itself (yeah, i know, not many (2) in the last 45 or so years but still.....)

You're not very good at this. Cody Ferriero wanted to go to BC. He changed his mind, took his ball and went home when he realized he'd have to actually compete for ice time and scholarship money.

Cody Ferriero, C Governor’s Academy, 5-11/190, selected (5th round) 127th overall

“Feisty kid with real good skill level,” San Jose Sharks Director of Scouting Tim Burke told The Mercury News. “He’s not 6-feet, but he’s built for hockey. The kid’s got an edge to him, too.”

Kirk Luedeke mentioned Cody Ferriero in his article previewing the NHL draft for the New England Hockey Journal. Kirk states that “Ferriero is another small but skilled forward who could be drafted in June, much like his older brother Benn, who is in the San Jose organization after a standout career at BC. The younger Ferriero is arguably this New England class’s most talented player but he needs improvement in his maturity and discipline, in the words of several scouts who acknowledged the upside, but have issues with his attitude.”

Many familiar with the Ferriero family echo Luedeke’s sentiments about Cody’s immaturity on the ice. Scouts like that he plays a feisty game but at times it comes at a detriment to his team in the way of a bad penalty. Cody is also prone to trying to do it all on his own with the puck at times. That said it’s easier to tone a guy down then to light a fire under them and word is Benn Ferriero also had some maturity issues when he was Cody’s age and grew out of it into a consummate professional. The Sharks most be hoping Benn can rein in his brother a bit and that Cody follows a similar maturation process into a contributor in the pro ranks.

ISS ranked Cody Ferriero 186th overall in their draft guide. “Good stick with an excellent release. Strong on his skates and is a feisty player. Puck control and stickhandling skills are strong. Has good speed and a good work ethic.”

NU can have an all Sharks line. Justin Daniels, first pick of the 3rd round, 2008draft, Drew Daniels selected in the 7th round and Cody Ferriero. Should make a very good third line for the Huskies.

Exactly. He wanted to go to BC because his brother when and excelled there. But figured he would get special treatment because of it. He wasn't and he actually going to be fighting for playing time so he packed up and left.

His brother was a great kid who had his head on straight, so I don't know what happened here but the only thing I can imagine is that the "family adviser" isn't giving great advice.

I am sure he will do very well at NU, it just doesn't look great on your resume when you don't show the will to compete on the ice.

Uhhhh, here is why there is that "arrogant" perception. Obviously Ferreiro will just be placed on the first line, PP and PK at NU and not have to compete for playing time like he would have at BC .

When it comes down to it, I can understand why a kid who is drafted in the fifth round feels he shoud be on full scholarship and not a 2 for 4 deal. If he's on full at this point, regardless of the school, that's only ~80k or more in his and his parent's pockets that otherwise would have gone to the BC. I think everyone here would have chosen to save the ~80k and that's probably a conservative number.

What you implied was quite obvious. Regardless of what anyone says I'd guess he knew he could get a better deal elsewhere and went for it. He knows he'll have to compete for ice time at NU or any other school he might have chosen. Use logic, not what USHR tells you.
