Northeastern Recruits

Re: Northeastern Recruits

CF will be a very good player, will be very good and is better than the kid who just left
If Cronin cared that much he would have made it work. Awfull lucky, wink, wink, to have that money for CF

he will score goals

Over the long-term, yah, the short-term, I wouldn't think so. Depends on how long CF stays in school.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

im not happy, but not sad about this, my thoughts are that a week ago if you had told me we'd lose macmillan for a kid like ferriero, id be fine with that. id be more dissapointed if we didnt have a ton of depth at forward, but we do so we can survive.

While we do have depth, I was still hoping both Ferriero and MacMillan would get enough playing time to justify benching a certain upperclassmen or two.

Pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing you meant the following players:

McLaughlin
Silva

I would have thought those two along with MacLeod, McNeely, Vermeersch, J. Daniels, D. Daniels, Tuckerman, Vrolyk, and Quailer will make up 10 forwards on most nights. Add Ferriero and someone else. Who's the better prospect, Brodie Reid or Braden Pimm?

BTW, did you guys change your logo...again? I seem to remember USCHO showing the red and black "N" in recent years, but now there's a picture of an old school husky.

Pimm's been discussed as a possible center for one of the top 2 lines, so I assume him. I'm guessing McLaughlin and Silva might get benched here and there to make room for the freshmen.

MacLeod, McNeely, Vermeersch, the Daniel brothers, Tuckerman, Vrolyk, Quailer, Pimm, Ferriero seem to be likely to play most frequently, with the last 2 spots going toward Stone, Reid, Silva, and McLaughlin. Considering some people players will likely be injured or in need of rest, everyone will likely get decent playing time.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

I think I'm in the great minority of nu fans who likes mclaughlin, he's one of my favorite players actually. he doesnt possess the talent to light it up, but show me a husky that tries harder night in and night out. he's put together good second halfs of the season in the two years he has been here, im hoping he starts out on the right foot this year and has an all around productive season. he's not going to be one of the guys you count on to get a goal in the clutch, but he has shown he can be productive at this level. 12 forwards that i'd like to see:

macleod
mcneely
JD
Vermy
Quailer
Pimm
Ferriero
Tuckerman
Reid
Mclaughlin
DD
Stone/ - Vrolyk once he gets healthy

I must have missed the boat on this - is Vrolyk injured?

This would probably be ideal, but it still would have been nice to have MacMillan as I'm sure he would have gotten quite a bit of playing time.

Vrolyk is recovering from an injury and won't be ready to start the season. I assume he'll miss a few games, not sure how bad it is though.

Knowing our luck we'll likely have 1 or 2 players injured or out for some reason at all times.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

Any chance Ferriero committing (and depending on what kind of scholarship he got) played a role in MacMillan decommitting?

I'm not going to pretend like I know all the details, but my thought is no. Ferriero wasn't even in the picture until last week. MacMillan claims part of the issue was late paperwork, so I'm assuming that's why he wasn't on the roster as of a few weeks back.

The N is still the official athletics logo, but they've been using the old husky a lot with hockey. It's on the jerseys, and it's what's on the press box at Matthews.

I don't know all the details either, but I'd heard he never actually submitted a letter of intent. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ferreiro coming in made him reconsider, and since he wasn't officially signed here he could easily get out. It didn't take him long at all to commit to SCSU either, so my guess would be he's been thinking about it anyways. Just my thoughts though.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

What I found interesting is that Mark MacMillan had it down between us and UND and opted to go to UND, so the family must have liked it here. Maybe Mark wants to beat up on his little brother when he gets to Grand Forks in 2011  . Whatever the case, I wish Mark the best.

Even when Vrolyk comes back I think Stone will be in the line-up on the 3rd or 4th line. He seems like a Cronin type player, they described him on GoNU as basically chris donovan with much better hands and vision. I hope I'm wrong about this but I wonder if Reid might be one of the odd men out. He seems like the opposite of the normal Cronin recruit. Lots of raw talent, but has been held back by attitude problems.

I think that Silva could still help this team if he accepts a role as a 3rd or 4th line defensive forward who could be utilized on the PK and could put up 12-15 points. Obviously, he can't be on the PK if he's the one in the box so not taking penalties is the big key there.

I'm also interested to see how much Clay Witt will play. Maybe Rawlings 75-80% and Witt 20-25%? It's nice to have this much goaltending depth, as Mountain who was a solid back-up last year, probably won't see game action all year.

Ya I see where you're coming from, I see Vrolyk as a Donovan except with offensive upside. He made some plays last year that made you say wow, albeit a hand full, but some. He ripped it up that Umass weekend. It'll be interesting for sure, we might have a carousel of a 4th line with all of these fringe guys going in and out until Cro finds a combination that yields production.

"Carousel" is a good description of what happens with the fourth line at the beginning of most every team's season. We now have six or seven guys with experience at center including Pimm, Ferriero, Quailer, Daniels, McLaughlin, Silva? and Stone. The first four will probably play regularly, although some will play wing. The last three may be riding that carousel.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

How long has the 2010-2011 NU roster been on their website?

Only reason I'm asking is because a certain flip-flopper from Essex, MA is not on that roster right now. Hmmmmmmm. Maybe it's nothing and they'll add him later when things are finalized?

All indications are that they are, after all we are NU athletics... though I've honestly been quite impressed with the output and effort of our athletics department lately so I'll reserve my cynicism for now. I wouldn't think much of it, though it's a valid point to make.

Re: Northeastern Recruits

Jon Gillies is the second goaltender for the Indiana Ice team this upcoming year, so it looks like he'll be able to get 2 or 3 years of experience in the USHL before coming to Northeastern.
