Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Are you still our #1 fan in South Bend or have you been hooded and moved on?

Moved on to Houston, then hooded. I may try to head back to South Bend to see ND and NU play, especially since there'll be the nice new digs to check out.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Don't worry folks. NU will have a quality coach soon!!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Will they have any quality players left?

Stop your whining already. You did not even like Cronin. And so far, since Cronin left, no players from last years team have left. The only guy not coming back who should have is Brodie Reid, and he left while Cronin was still coach. Recruits who change their mind, do not count, because they were never hear to begin with.

The only guy that would leave at this point would be Jameson, and he might have left even if Cronin was coach, he was/is no sure thing to come back no matter who the coach is/was.

#7 was named the best NU frosh at this year’s banquet. Will he come back with Greg Cronin gone?

I don't see any reason why he wouldn't. He was a late round selection by a team that is full of talented young d-men (and has an NU alum as a GM). Regardless of who the coach is, his options are either to 1. Be one of the best 2-way d-men in HE while getting the "A" this year and potentially be the Huskies captain down the road or 2. Be a 2nd pairing d-man for the Milwaukee Admirals where he will inevitably stay for a long time. (Unless Poille continues to trade 23-year old stud defensemen for the NHL version of JP Maley)

One huge advantage to having almost no quality players on your roster is that you can't lose too many in the offseason! So you've got that going for you, which is nice.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

USHR is reporting that 5’10”, 173 lb. Cedar Rapids (USHL) center Justin Kovacs has decommitted from Northeastern, where he was scheduled to matriculate this fall.
Justin Kovacs is a huge loss for NU. Cronin said that Justin reminded him of Jason Guerriero. Great vision and passing ability. Cronin coached Jason at Bridgeport and was very surprised at how much ability he possessed. Great playmakers are harder to find in hockey than they are at BB.
Hope the new coach has extensive pro experience.
Anyone find out where NU’s recruiting coordinator, Albert O’Connell, is hiding. It’s hard for me to believe the Harvard rumors; too much recruiting talent for that school. Is he still upset about the way the suspension was handled? No hearing, no due process just one great surprise slap in the face!

He would be the biggest loss if he did. I would expect him and #6 to be all Hockey East players if they come back. If #7 came back a third year, good shot at All-American.

I know #39 had your vote for frosh of the year.

Paolo,

Your comment is a bit puzzling to me. If I understand correctly, it was Sebastien and Albie who spearheaded his recruitment and really "sponsored" Justin. Perhaps Cro watched his highlight films and eventually came to appreciate his skill set.

You must have me confused with someone else. I have never had a bad thing to say about Cronin, I think he was the perfect guy for this job. No other coach has had skilled players like him coming in here, this incoming class was regarded by many to be very good, but not anymore.

Also disappointed to hear his assessment of Rob Dongara. Weak, not the type of build that can put weight on, just an average stick, but I know that he is a great worker who will go to the net again and again!
On my way to Ogunquit, hope when I return NU will have a new coach and the roster is the same.
Toronto has the best Chinese restaurants in North America; 80% of my clients are Chinese and my office manager will send Greg a list of the best ones; he will have to find the Italian restaurant on his own.

Hey, off topic, but I was wondering if there's an air hockey table anywhere on or around Northeastern's campus. I'm hanging out with a 15 year old tomorrow and every air hockey table I know of is in a 21+ establishment.

Be careful, Hokydad reads these threads...

He also had some inappropriate comments about J Daniels. Cro often ignored diplomacy when speaking about individual players in public. If a player ran (skated) through a wall for him, it was because he couldn't stop in time. His trashing of Dongara made no sense. He actually made fun of the kid's speed saying that he's be skating in the parking lot if there weren't boards on the rink to stop him. It was the same comment he made about Brian Esner. I happen to disagree with him about Dongara. The kid played his heart out and surprised everyone. He may be a late bloomer and is fun to watch. He also has his share of flair and personality off the ice.

The fact is that Cronin had really checked out mentally. His pep talk was pretty mild. He deferred to Sebastien in describing the recruits. He allowed that wasn't going to leave NU for a job in the AHL. Then the next day, he told his assistants about his plans to leave. Five days later, we all learned about it. People do and say strange thngs when they have an "agenda". Unfortunately, you can't usually find out their agenda no matter how you search the internet.
