Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)
Just because Yale has a lot of money does not mean they can use it towards their hockey team. For all we know their endowment could be tied up in either investments or it can be ear marked to go towards specific things such as financial aid.
You could be right though and he may have no intention of leaving and instead could use an offer from NU to leverage better facilities or a better salary with Yale.
As for reasons he might leave Yale though. He might be tempted at better salary, living in Boston, and be able to pull in better recruits. Don't get me wrong he has done a spectacular job at Yale but he could feel that he could get better recruits by being able to offer scholarships and that might be a better chance for him to take a team to the frozen four.
Will someone explain to me why a former Yale hockey player, now in his early fifties, who has brought success to his alma mater's hockey program and is very much adored, would want to leave his dream job to take over the Northeastern job?
It can't be the money, as Yale, if they chose to, could pay him twice whatever we offer.
Does he have a problem with the administration or somehow feel constrained in some way?
What would make the NU job seem like a plum to someone in his position?
