Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

At the risk of sounding like a certain poster on here that catches a lot of flak, I have a source that has talked directly to the kid and said he is between BC and BU but the Windsor Spitfires are heavily involved as well.

BC and bu will be deep dung if they are talking to another team's recruit about anything hockey related. That's why Haar's claim that schools like Minnesota and bu are interested in him is a pile of carp. He's interest in them!

Windsor has never drafted Gaudreau. Don't know who has rights to him.

Here's a 6/27 article from his local newspaper in NJ
http://thankyouterry.blogspot.com/

My own source, who is high up on the" food chain", spoke to Gaudreau yesterday and was told that heplans to attend NU and will be at Orientation in Boston in July.

Believe what you wish, but this is getting real old - real fast.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Agree that the wondering about the recruits is getting old. Good for them that they are in a position to re-assess their commitnents, bad for us. Talk about a Head Coach has been quiet for a couple of days. Does anybody have an idea of who the applicants really are? I haven't seen any names other than LaPlante's, and probably Cavanagh, that people believe it is certain are interested in the job. I thought Dennehy and Quinn would be, but their names don't seem to be in the wind at this time. Anybody else?

I doubt will hear anything until they narrow it down to the final interviews, and even then we might not know until the pick. I'm guessing even then Northeastern won't make anything official (because some candidates won't want their interest known, etc.). So it's possible we won't hear anything concrete until a pick is imminent.

Like I have said before I have ZERO faith in Roby.

Your comments make sense. I understand that the appointment won't be made untill late July. We have some hiring search rules in place that require us to make darn certain that every male (or female) on earth who speaks hockey has an opportunity to apply.

BTW Jamieson Oleksiak has indicated to us that he will be returning to school this fall. Excellent source. Ryan Renz may be accelerated to replace Haar. No decision yet. All the pieces are coming back together except for one ..... See above.

If this is true (and I REALLY hope it is!), I am officially taking my finger off the panic button. As far as the players on the ice are concerned, we'll be just fine. Now, if only Brodie Reid stayed...

The storm before the calm.. :)
like death & taxes.. just gotta deal with it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Not surprised. Like I said in a previous post, atypical BC forward. Doesn't hurt either that people have mentioned he could be similar to Gionta/Gerbe.

Difference is they could skate. That is not this guys game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

OK, Cavanagh, Dennehy, LaPlante, Quinn. Are there any other Coaches that were candidates for the recent hirings at Lowell and Providence that I am forgetting? Was Jim Montgomery actually an applicant for any of the openings? Someone mentioned Billy Powers at Michigan, but with Berenson losing one of his long term assistants already, doesn't that make Powers the Coach-in-waiting at UM?

Outside of LaPlante, i do not think any of those other 3 are applicants. Only possible rumored candidates thrown out by people who always throw out their names whenever a job opening comes up.

I believe Ron Rolston and Mark Carlson were interested in the Lowell job.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Well, it better be the right choice, especially if we are to keep Oleksiak.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

There's a lot riding on this decision, I don't think Roby's taking it lightly.

Of course they are and some have already applied.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I saw this on USHR:
The main topic of conversation among coaches here at the Select 16 camp is the coaching carousel, which, of course, is topped off by the opening at Northeastern.

It is being reported that Northeastern AD Peter Roby started his search for the new coach by reaching out to Yale University head coach Keith Allain and to Dartmouth head coach Bob Gaudet. Roby is a 1979 graduate of Dartmouth, where he attended school with Gaudet, class of ’81. And Allain graduated from Yale in 1980. The Northeastern head job pays in the mid-200K range, which would be a boost from the Ivy pay grade for hockey coaches, if one wishes to look at this solely in monetary terms.

As far as the Northeastern staff is concerned, Albie O’Connell is still in the employ of Northeastern, at least technically. However, it is a fait accompli that he will shortly be working on Ted Donato’s staff at Harvard. As far as Northeastern players are concerned, there will be a bit of an exodus, though exactly how big remains to be seen. For now we can report that defenseman Garrett Haar has officially decommitted.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Much appreciated boblav1, this is much better than the previous USHR article, which just mentioned everyone who might have an interest with little evidence.

I would be very happy if Allain got the gig, he's done great over at Yale and I hope the chance at playing in a league with stronger competition and more money. Allain could do very well here. He also turned Yale into a strong program in a matter of a few years, from 8 losing records in 9 years to making the NCAA tournament 3 years running.

As for Gaudet, I don't see the appeal. Maybe someone who watches the ECAC can comment, but his record doesn't look to impressive.

Unfortunately O'Connell is probably gone. Perhaps he's staying around for now to see if the new coach wants him, but if the process takes a lot longer he'll likely just sign before the coach comes.

Sidenote: Ryan Clark posted this on Haar's choices for schools. Sounds like a lot of these are chock full of defensemen already. Would be highly amusing if he had to fight hard for playing time when it sounds like he could have easily played a lot of time here:

I think one of the concerns about losing Albie is that he has long term potential and that he was responsible for some of the recruiting in the past. While it would hurt to see him go, a new coach like Allain (who has shown a great recent track record of recruiting) would make the loss a lot more manageable. I have no idea why Gaudet would be seriously considered, sometimes I forget Dartmouth even has a mens hockey team. Not really impressed with him, although I should just be happy that USHR is not reporting our interest in Blaise anymore.
