Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

This is good news.

Do we have any real truth to any coaching canidates?

None, and we're unlikely to get any, since a lot of them will likely want their name hidden. I've been randomly searching around, picking up whatever rumors or mentions I can here, I looked through twitter (where I found the Carvel thing), and it sounds like Roby is meeting with at least some of the players this week, not sure whether it's because they have the coach, or they want input, or what.

You want some real truth? Can you handle the real truth? The truth is that the serious interviews will take place next week.
the real truth is that the market has reset itself upward. PC just agreed tgo pay Leaman $250M, while Western Michigan is offering something similar to lure someone to lower-cost-of living Kalamazoo. The real truth is that I don't know who the next coach will e, but I'll be that it will either be Sebastien or someone whose name hasn't yet surfaced on these boards of on DHD. The real truth is that Albie istaking the job at Harvard.

Ryecheers, you seem to have some insight into the inner workings. Going on your feelings, I'm going to assume that LaPlante is almost surely going to be the new HC. You seem confident that Cav, MC, DQ, Rolston, Carlson, Allain, Gaudet, etc., are not potential hires. The opening at WMich complicates the hiring search. You recently allude to a possible scenario that would be surprising and exciting. Can that still happen? If not, can you say what it was? With O'Connell out, they will have to hire two assistants. Is one of them the person you think Kovacs would recognize? Kevin Brooks from the Cedar Rapids staff?

I think LaPlante will be a finalist, and knowing NU's system, I would expect and hope that there will be a place for him in any new "regime". The players like him and respect him. He was involved in recruiting many of the team members and has a personality and attitude that is somewhat less challenging, though possibly as motivating, than his precdecessor.
I have no idea how Kovacs felt about Carlson or his assistant. I suspect that there are several current players who would be less than thrilled if he were to be the next head coach. DK much about Brooks.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

What do Cronin and O'Connell think of LaPlante and how he handled the discipline situation last season?

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

La Plante s the natural choice. Hoping the decision comes down soon.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I know this is a long shot, but I think the U should at least make a phone call or two to Tony Amonte. Great college player (even though it was at bu), obviously has NHL connections and currently coaches in Braintree at his alma mater, Thayer Academy. He would be the type of name which would definitely attract big time American recruits.

Plus, Amonte vs. Parker, his mentor, and Coyle, his nephew, would be pretty interesting.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Harvard has finally made the O'Connell hiring official - http://www.gocrimson.com/sports/mice/2011-12/releases/110715_oconnell

Bitetto tweeted earlier today that NU announcement should be first week of August.

Unfortunate about O'Connell, he helped bring in a lot of great recruits. I hope whoever our new coach is brings in someone good with some solid connections (especially in the BCHL and USHL).

That week in August can't come fast enough

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

WRBB tweeted this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capitals-insider/post/general-manager-george-mcphee-dubs-garrett-haar-the-surprise-of-washington-capitals-development-camp/2011/07/16/gIQA3sPKII_blog.html
Haar decommitted from Northeastern shortly after Greg Cronin resigned as head coach to join the Toronto Maple Leafs and the California native had planned to postpone going to play NCAA hockey for another year. McPhee and the Capitals told Haar that for his development they want him to begin playing college hockey in the fall, though, and are helping to find a school for the 17-year-old defenseman.

McPhee “said that Boston College was gonna to try to get some full ride [scholarship] for me for this fall. So if that happens, then I’ll be heading out to college,” said Haar, who received offers from Umass Lowell and Western Michigan for next season.

“George called [Jerry] York, the coach of Boston College last night, and I guess you could say he pumped my tires,” Haar said. “He’s helping me out a lot.”
Ugh.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Might be hard to start right away, BC has a lot of depth already on the blueline. Ryan Clark actually did a lowdown on the schools he was interested in, and I saw not a lot of openings, and this upcoming year is even worse because everyone already more or less have their teams set for the upcoming year. Plus IIRC he had issues with a class which may have held him back from coming this fall and signing an NLI.

EDIT- not to mention that BC will likely have 3 high draft pick defensemen coming in 2012 and only 1 supposed to leave, so honestly I don't see where he thinks he fits in there as a top-4 defensemen.

Honestly, I could care less about people who aren't willing to see who the new coach is before leaving. It would have been nice to see them play, but we have plenty of good players who want to play for us already.

Get over Haar already jeez. He left, he can have fun somewhere else pretending those schools desperately want him and not the other way around.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Seems like a better academic fit at bu. Too bad he decommitted as we are not going to be nearly as deep on D as we expect. I'm not at all sure that we'll see Ryan Renz thiis year and not really certain that he is ready. This would mean that we are counting on Jake Hoefler or Ben Oskroba, two unproven quantities, as our 6/7th defensemen - and there is no 8th. That may be the new HC's first problem to address.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Not to further push the rumor mill that has been the Northeastern offseason but Rawlings is on the roster of an Islanders rookie game tonight. Is it normal for college players who are intent on returning to their team to play for their professional team in a rookie game?

Looks like he's on the tryout roster and is in their mini-camp, so I would say everything's fine, he's just playing in their tryout game. Trivino's there, so everything looks good. If anything, nice to see him have 2 training camps this summer, he's certainly preparing for the season.

Also, see McNeely is on the roster too, so fun to see him

If anyone wants to watch Husky hockey, watch the Islander's stream, get to see McNeely and Rawlings playing right now.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Yale wouldn't be allowing Keith Allain to hire Red Gendron as an assistant if Allain were going anywhere soon, would they? Hard to think that Allain is a candidate for the NU position now.

I wonder (and this is with little knowledge of the hiring process and such) how much Allain has to tell them about his seeking other jobs? I mean, it would seem unlikely Allain hired Gendron and then took a job like 2 weeks later, but during this offseason a lot crazier things have happened. Allain may have hired him thinking he wouldn't get a job offer here, or is just making the hire to assure Yale of his good intentions (while fleeing to NU). Remember Leaman vehemently denying looking into the PC job until he accepted it, Allain may have no interest in the position here, or may have a lot of interest and is just covering his track.

Sidenote- Gendron was hired as Associate Head Coach. Not sure the difference between that and Assistant Head Coach.
