Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

sorry to read this..... while nu is always the red headed stepchild to the nasty sisters of bu and bc, it is better for boston hockey and the beanpot when nu is competitive. here's to hoping you find someone to continue the climb.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Honestly, where is all this "Seabass is more than capable" talk coming from? 6 games in the regular season? Yes he did a good job keeping the team focused for a few weeks, but that is no way indicative of the effort it takes to recruit and coach at a high level in hockey east. I like how by the sounds of it he bleeds red and black, but tim army bleeded pc's colors and look how that turned out for everyone down in providence. It's so hard to judge, it's all guessing and hear say, let's just wait and see how the new guy does his first few years.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Hey guys...we're getting a little off the mark here..although the relative merits of Boston vs Vermont make for interesting reading. At this time there certainly are more questions than answers. How about some "speculation" from those who know the NU scene better than I. How long do you think the hunt will take? Who are the likely candidates? Most on this site feel Sebastion may well get the nod. The BU blog predicts Albie. Other names have been tossed around. Let's have a best guess contest!

Same with players and recruits leaving. One poster thinks Oleksiak will bolt. Will Saponari really run?

What do you all think about Cronin? Bad? He did a terrible thing? Good for him? Moving ahead?

And Robey...Is he the man behind this? I'm new to this site Did Robey come in as AD after Cronin?

Let's get some emotion going!

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Maybe people like that Boston actually has streets unlike Vermont where everyone rides horses from the cheese factory to the maple syrup factory back to the ole' log cabin.

That's a good thing? Riding the horse from the cheese factory to the log cabin means you are less apt to run into the village idiot. I bet you can avoid them in Boston. Oh wait, do you go home for the summers

The thing I'd wonder about with Albie is, he got the same suspension as Cronin. It would be interesting if he came out of that with a different viewpoint on the athletic administration than Cronin did.

What do you all think about Cronin? Bad? He did a terrible thing? Good for him? Moving ahead?
Most successful NU coach since Fernie Flaman, I'd say, edging Ben Smith out by beating someone other than Harvard in the Beanpot. He appeared to be moving NU forward, so it's disappointing to see him depart.

Speculation :

They hire a new coach within the week, because they all knew it was coming since the NCAA crackdown last year. The school allowed Cronin to save some face because, well when it's all read and blood vessels are popping out of it, no one is going to hire you. Hokey's got the inside track. Let's face it, for as much **** as he takes on here, and a lot of well deserved, all of his stalking pays off as he knows more about what's going on then most others. One or two guys will leave, the rest will stay. Saponari comes because he is chasing a piece of azz in Beantown and that's really why he chose NU in the first place, keeps him close to his gal. Gaudreau who knows. Had a heck of year but still projected as a 4th rounder, I doubt he has anyone from the NHL directing him one way or the other. Question is who has a spot for him? Unless Parker boots someone .... well that's a whole 'nother topic. I'm sure JG is going to matriculate in the fall. As for Cronin, he did a fair job coaching. Had a good year last year, but plain and simple he had some mediocre seasons too, I personally thought they should give him another two years to see what happens. My guess is that was the plain before he got cheating and then followed that with letting the roid rage get to him and losing his **** against Parker's kid. Last straw. Good move for him for sure, since.... I doubt there was any other move. A job is a job.

Oh and BTW, Boston and VT are better then Canada. All Canada is good for is strippers and making fun of that ***** luongo.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Mike McMahon's reporting Albie's been offered a position at Harvard so while nothing's happened, don't hold out.

Pet names in the NU thread now? My sweet Jesus...

When the fanboys read this they are going to have a field day.
The Sebas nickname isn't anything new.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense? Sorry but I find nothing particularly fascinating about Boston. I mean really are people there so stupid that you have to put in all one way streets so they don't get confused?
There are one way streets in loads of cities, what does that even mean?

Toronto would most likely have to make a move and trade up to get him.
Right, that's what I heard they'd be doing.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Whitehead to NU? You heard it here first..........

HAHAHAHA.

Well, your post will be enough for Larry Mahoney to get an article going now. Expect it to be published in tomorrow's edition.

"Cronin out at NU, Whitehead on short list"

And then all the nitwit BC fans will be posting about it non-stop on their own message boards. Larry Mahoney wrote it, it must be true!!!!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Right on jccarter! I'm still a Canadian citizen..BUT have been a legal resident of the US since 1963 and you will find NO ONE who is more pro American than me Everything I've done and everything I have IS BECAUSE my hardworking late parents emigrated to the US! SO I'm not the least bit offended by your description of Canada. I hope your speculation is correct and we get a quick resolution to the coaching issue. I like Albie...I don't know if he would make a head coach...but I do like him...would be very sorry to see him go to Harvard...and he IS too old to start studying Law....which in my opinion is all Harvard is good for!

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Its ok folks, he left for a better job, because really, as a HC in college, moving to an assistant job at the NHL level is pretty much as high as one can go. How many college coaches have left for a HC job in the NHL over the last 25 years. Count them on one hand or two? If he left for a head gig at an AHL team, different story. Looks good for the U.

As for the recruits, step back and think, where are the majority of these guys going to go now? Some might be able to go back to the USHL for a year if they have time left, but otherwise, we are still their best option. Other teams are not going to go and pick them off at this point, that is not how college hockey works. Oleksiak decision probably does not change much at this point unless he thinks the new guy is not going to help him, otherwise, it seems he is pretty much going to do what the team that drafts him wants him to do. My hope, NJD trades out of the 4th pick to midway through first round for another 1 next year, or a 2 this year and something else, takes him, and lets him make his own decision as they did with the kid up in Michigan who is staying their for a 2nd year.

Let us also remember the cupboard is not bare. This is not a rebuilding project. This is probably the most talented roster to come back the next year over the last 15 years i have been a fan of the team. And that is with Jamie NOT coming back. Its a lock for home ice team with Jamie, without him,its a 4th or 5th place team, and that is with the loss of this years senior class. The defense and goaltending lose nothing, and the offense which everyone will point out is our shortcoming is going to be fine. No way the guys from the 2nd line down have the same types of seasons back to back. To talented for that to happen.

In the end, the most important thing now is who and when. Hope that by mid to late July we have our guy, and he can continue on what Cronin started here.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Everything will work out and be cool at NU. Great program. Really like Olesiak. Bet he will stay and continue developing.

As a diehard Black Bear fan I can say Time Whitehead is a great coach but I doubt he'd leave Maine.
NU will find the right man.

I think that he would. NU fans should be very excited that he is on the short list.......multiple Frozen 4 appearances (came within a whisker of winning 2 NCs!), non-controversial, and runs a clean program!

If all that is true, why do the Maine posters spend so much time posting "Fire Timmay" messages?

Thanks. But, no thanks!

BTW, the recruits should be safe and snug under the blanket of their signed LOIs. If Sebastien gets the position, there will be zero defections. If Jamie leaves, it will be because his draft team orders him to leave.

NUMcNeely
Don't call the man tghe coach "Seabass" if you expect to have a cordial relationship with him. No nickname could be less appropriate. He is as different from Cronin as night is from day and much less volatile.

"Seb" will be a better sobriquet.

Most 'real' fans love Tim Whitehead. So I would just ignore the others.
He is a great coach and an educator. The players that have played for him have really developed as players and quality individuals. He is an excellent coach and role model. But I would be shocked if he left Maine.

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Kind of surprised that LaPlante and O'Connell are getting most of the talking up here. Does anybody else think that Mike Cavanagh, Mark Dennehy and (maybe) David Quinn are the guys to consider?

all good coaches

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

I hope Laplante gets the nod. He knows the team, the hockey scene, the league, our long term focus etc. No long adjustment period with him. Actually, he will in turn need to hire someone (plural), to help him with recruiting, defense etc. as there will be less time on his plate, if he were to get the nod.

My other choice would be....
nevermind, i actually want to stick with the NU guy :).

ps: Peter Roby knows Harvard well & can help Albie one way or another with his decision. Hopefully that works out for both sides as well.

Why?.......NU would be a pay increase. Plus he gets to run a program in BOSTON, maybe the most prime recruiting location in the country. I'm rooting for Whitehead to get the job.......he is an outstanding coach and has proven it with his multiple Frozen 4 appearances.
