Northeastern Huskies 2023-24: Brave New World or New Beginning?

Well that was interesting. Whitehead again the best player on the ice. However I don't think we really learned much about NU they played good we enough to win. I think we learned more about BU and what we learned is they aren't as good as they think they are and their goalie is a bit suspect. I am fairly certain this team is middle of the road and I'm still not thinking much in terms of NCAAs or HE tournament but we could still win a Beanpot and finish in the top half. I'd be happy with that considering the abysmal start. We really didn't have huge fan support tonight at the crumbling barn. Even the Doghouse only 75% full for a 6:30 Tuesday night start, that nobody seemed to know about, as many rolled in at 7pm. Nice job Huskies I'll take the 2 Points. The paid attendance was 4k but I didn't see many of the season ticket holders. I think true attendance was more like 3k.

...Extending BU's misery on Tuesday would merit some forgiveness.

ALL IS FORGIVEN!!!

NU might not be as heavy on talent as it has been in recent years but it might be the team nobody wants to play coming down the stretch. Now they have momentum going up against Maine on Friday and from there to the Beanpot.

Light at the end of the tunnel?

Nice W NU!

I actually thought the turnout was decent for a Tuesday. Who schedules these things? Fans also definitely still thought it was at 7. Put this at 4 on a Saturday and the place is slammed.

Huskies came out flying the first 10 minutes but collapsed into a scramble for the second. Third period I thought they looked good except for garbage power play and weak effort when BU had an extra skater.

BU probably trying to do a little too much. NU had the scouting report on Caron for sure.

I loved how confident and assertive NU looked tonight, and this past weekend. They're finally showing what they're capable of. They still need to control the front of the net better and not lose sight of guys at the back post.

Looks like the date and certainly the time was to feed ESPN content needs as NU-BU conveniently led into the start of Kansas hoops. What puzzles me is why so many folks apparently didn't know about the 6:30 p.m. start. That's something that should have been repeatedly blasted out on both internal and external social media channels.

Through 2 Northeastern is back to putting on one of the worst shows you’ve ever seen. It’d be a win if they look remotely competitive in the third.

Wow, a marginal major, not sure, it met 3 criteria of a major and none of the coaches on the Maine bench chirped. They dominated the 3rd even the 15 5 on 5 minutes. Lots of complaints from the Maine fans. Don't worry about them, They can all go back to their trailers, cabins, EBT cards, Colt 45 malt liquor and fat venison fed, foul mouthed porker woman. Many of whom were in attendance tonight right in front of me. It's a good time to be playing your best hockey. Who knows confidence is a hockey stat that the Pairwise can't track.

I've always hated greasy NU fans...it's like you're all the love children of Rico Rossi.

So, wins over the HEA top three plus a tie with then-national #3 QPac. Still long odds for a NCAA appearance but success has a way of feeding off itself. And just in time for the Beanpot defense. Might be an entertaining last few weeks.

Agree. I believe that Maine is in denial of a goalie who is hurt. I was sitting in the bowl tonight with a youth hockey club not my seasons and the Maine goalie isn't seeing right stick side. We hit the post twice and no movement. Might need some rest. And #20 in the Pairwise now. The issue is we only have 4 games remaining against ranked teams. However we win a couple of those and go deep in the tournament and WTF. We could be on the bubble.

Not sure if he is hurt or not. It would be a bizarre coaching decision if so. Since Maine’s back up is a rookie with a .929 save percentage. Most Maine fans have been wanting him to play more ever since he did well against UNH. It is frustrating to watch Ostman at this point. He’s often out of position and it’s causing him to give up rebounds and get out of position… flopping around.

Conversely, I thought Whitehead was great. He makes tough saves look like routine ones. Congrats on the win and the great improvement. Good luck in the beanpot.

My thought is perhaps that Ostman isn't telling anyone he has an issue. Maybe he doesn't even know. I am sure if coaches suspected they would rest him. Last night I sponsored a local city GBYHL team at the game and as a result sat behind the Maine goalie for two periods with two older aging HE goalies who both played in the AHL and Europe. NU hit cross bar 2x unscreened and Osman didn't react to his right. My two pals..go check that kid for floaters or a cataract. I don't want to create any unwarranted buzz but I think he needs a rest and a check out. I don't wish Maine any issues and while I like NU, and occasionally root for BU as I also attended their, I like HE to be the SEC of hockey more, so I want them to represent.

I'll take a NU win and a BC loss tonight. I think our style is much better to handle the Terriers because if you slow down Celebrini you slow down BU. I think we will be 18 in the PW next Tuesday if we lose by a goal and likely 16 if we win by two. I just want BC to lose.

Can't disagree. NU has been eating BU's lunch for much of the Madigan/Keefe era. BC, not so much. I'll also concede that BU has a decided talent and depth edge, but NU seemingly knows how to even that out, as indicated by two games this season going to OT. OTOH, I'll give NU an edge in goal.

mookie hopes your boys take it easy and show some sympathy to the fellas from comm ave. least all y’all can do is let them win once and for all!

Mookie is absolutely the favorite intruder on the NU thread. All of us would love to share some adult beverages with him/her at some mutually convenient watering hole (providing, of course, that Mookie picks up the tab).

Things popping up on Twitter today regarding the condition and future of Matthews Arena. A couple of people I know with ties to the program think some news is coming soon. Anyone else hearing things?
