Hi guys,

It was posted on the UMass board that this game was sold out. I went to check myself and you can't get 2 tix together on gonu.com. Is that for real? I have a hard time believing that UMass is that big of a draw.

It is "parents Weekend". I hope we gave parents free tickets considering how much tuition they are paying.

Serious disrespect shown by Mssrs. Hendrickson and Connelly who couldn't be bothered to make a prediction on our game tonight in their, always last to post, Thursday night blog!

We know Connelly doesn't think much of our team, but IIRC, Hendrickson sent one of his descendants to our campus to be properly educated .

..respect your competition. no matter who. JM.. pls do everyone a favor & go back to fundraising. You have good players.. but you're not getting it done. Not sure if its your practices or you being out of it way too long..

Kids & the U deserve better. Was a experiment.. we (all) rode it for a bit.. its not working. You & the coaching staff are in over your heads. The hockey assasin won't do anything.. so make the call yourself Jim cause I know you care. And for all you JM fans.. I am not disrespecting the guy. Just stating the bitter truth. NU deserves a qualified hc.. JM is a failed experiment.

Barring tonight (not that it was great).. the crowds have thinned.. the season tix holders have bailed.. can't believe the U does not see or care. Jim.. you care.. take the call.
Night all.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Somehow, NU has managed to start 0-4 for the first time since something like 1971 with what is arguably the most talented roster of players in the history of the program. We're witnessing a trainwreck. No other way to describe it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Ok I was there tonight again with what is becoming an all too familiar result. Although you may think they played better I will say this, THEY DID NOT! Yes, they did manage >40 shots to 29/30 and did control the play at times, but they are sloppy through the natural zone, and are horrific on defense and what’s really scary is that all 3 lines appear marginal in the ability to produce goals, there is a big difference between sustained pressure which we did apply for a majority of the game and quality chances which this team can not generate with any level of consitancy. I must add that of the 40 plus shots only about 10 were true scoring opportunities.

Although, clearly the UMASS goalie had a great game you can't applaud him for saves on shots that hit him square in the chest or half hearted lop sided backhands from within the crease that moved at 5 mph, they may count as shots under the definition but they really were not scoring opportunities by any stretch of the imagination.

I have grave concerns for this team and that 1st and foremost worry resides in the play of the once great K Roy. He looks terrible & totally lost on the ice and fumbling through in his ability to both stick handle and get quality opportunities. I think he needs to be with Aston Reese and we will just have to bite the bullet on the other lines not producing at all , because 4 goals in 4 regular season games isn’t going to do it in HE. Not sure what JM is thinking on this one.

Overall, we skated fairly well down the ice and at times passed crisply wing to wing through the neutral zone but with accuracy only on occasion and those chances seldom lead to shots in the slot, most of the time the larger, though less nimble UMASS defenders pushed the play from harms way to behind the blue line, and so you have it, the real issue I see here is this team is too small and not all that physical. They may be some great stick handlers but the UMASS big D men ate them alive. It's going to be a long season and here we sit at 0-5 if you include the exhibition game.

Tonight we only appeared to play better against a far softer opponent than VT or Colgate and "yes" we could have won, we should have won, but we didn’t, and we didn’t for the reason I describe above. I must add that, the Roy in goal again played pretty darn well and I see no reason to surrender his post between the pipes back to Clay Witt. There have been many of you who have bashed me over the years especially for my distain for JM who I feel is not qualified to coach at this level, I rest my case tonight. This team is too talented to be 0-4 and look as lost as it is. Sorry we are stuck with this guy because we are stick with an AD who is as useless as the affirmative action programs that allowed him to attain his education and the proponents of such bastardization that allowed him to rise to the rank of AD! If you were a top prospect do you really want to be playing for JM on this team? Ask yourself that question and you may come to the sad realization of how much trouble this program may be in.

How is this the most talented roster of players in the history of the program? Because of K. Roy? That is a huge stretch, but yes I would agree with you that we should not be 0-4.

The only thing scary about tonight, and not that I really like agreeing with Rossi, but they put together a great effort against a bad team and still lost.

I thought all 12 forwards flashed tonight, and had good games. As was pointed out on twitter though, they suck at crashing the net, coming in way to fast and over skating pucks consistently. The defense had its issues at time, and Roy in goal was a mess every time there was the slightest hint of a screen in front of him. A good team that can finish would have blown him out tonight.

I felt that the first 4 goals of the game were weak goals by the each goalie. At least the pure hockey fan in me can appreciate the game winner. That was a nice shot on a great feed. Nice to see a 3 on 2 finished.

As for JM stepping down, that should have been 2 years ago. It would be great if he does it after they get swept in the first round of the playoffs, he will finish his contract, which means probably 1 more year.
.
But yeah, hiring a guy with zero head coaching experience, who had not been behind a bench since the mid 80s and then for only 2 years, who was a part time scout, and whose only qualifications was "had been around the team", probably not the best idea.

One good thing about tonight, no points again for Roy or Szmatula. So if they are to hit what they did last season point wise, they are going to go crazy the rest of the way.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

If you know him personally you should ask him to quit before the alumni do! If he was a CFO and he is the CFO of the hockey team, he would have been released. I don't know him personally but he did sit his *** in front of me in school several times where I heard his long winded and weak arguments to complex issues, and thus these are my perceptions of him, I am entitled to my opinion As far as kicking my 6 foot 6in 240 lb *** I doubt it then or now. However if he does get fired I would gladly give him a new start in my company's call center maybe he will hit his mark there and can work his way up in a new career. As far as I deduce after following the team for 30 plus years is that he was involved in hockey as a player then as an assistant coach but left the program to pursue and administrative position and them was miraculously anointed hockey coach by our also hapless AD. I am not mad, I just stopped writing checks to the university and I feel much better! If you think he has 1/20 the gray matter or hockey knowledge of Dick Umile, Parker, York, or even Cronin you know nothing of this game. We would be blessed to have Cronin back here. This university and this program now deserves that kind of coach , I am sorry I am sure JM is a nice guy but rally how many times can you say “compete level” in your post game before your audience realizes you are likely a moron. I am sure the university could let him go back to his old job in what was it facilities planting tress or whatever it is one does in that job, he did that job for a decade and the brick paths never looked better so he was successful at something!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I also personally know Jim and Rossi's comments are so off base. I have just assumed all along that nobody takes any of them to heart. JM must have beaten him up somewhere on campus as a lonely freshman cause this guy definitely has an major ax to grind.

How many times in the 18ish years that you've been a part of this university, have you seen this program ranked preseason other than this year? 1? 2? Prior to that, when was the last time this program was successful enough to be ranked preseason? 88? 82?

This team had the preseason hype both nationally and in the conference. Something this program really had before. And that was given to us by our peers (media and other HE coaches) and the "experts" (media and national coaches).

Is this the most talented roster ever? Maybe. Probably not. Is this a top 5 team ever in our history? Most likely. Top 10? Absolutely.

The skills and talent are there. And we have a freshman goalie waiting to go who is supposed to be the next Theissen, Gibson, Robi, Racine. If we're going to Redshirt him, I get it. But with what we got, and with how some quality players leave early, I would absolutely play him. Especially now that Witt is rumored to be hurt and Roy is, in my opinion, only here so that we got his much more talented brother. We've had some VERY successful freshman goalies. I don't see this being any different.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Watching the game last night had me asking myself is someone going to ever take control of our offense. To many times especially the 1st period we looked like we were trying to make the perfect pass. Roy,Szmatula and or even ZAR needs to start dictating the pace. Roy and Szmatula are better than this . 1 goal between them. With there frustration they are starting to over commit and put themselves out of the play this happend at least 6 times last night. I don't understand why the coaching staff does not address this issue they are way to talented for this to continue. I thought Hedges played better but not close to his level. Now can it turn around "yes" but it will take a hole lot of effort. The PP well Keefe needs to get this off the Shnide. My God its terrible

Weren't they ranked when Tiffany-Amber was manning net? Regardless, come on guys... your killing my HE pick'ems!!! Umass??

I'm not sure where you're getting that from, Theut is likely still going to the third in line for the job when Witt leaves and Ruck enters next year. Unless you're confusing him with Ruck, but even then, I haven't heard that level of hype for Ruck either.

I did say "arguably" so I wasn't trying to be absolutist. But as somebody else pointed out, this is certainly among the Top Ten, and probably Top Five talent pools we have ever had. Anyway, here's a sobering stat (as if any of us needed another glass of cold water thrown in our faces): Going back to the Beanpot championship game, this team is 3-9-1 with 30GF and 48GA. No way no how should this roster be putting up numbers like that!
