Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

What is the ticket situation for Friday night's game? If I want to get tickets at the door can I? How much do they run?
Since the bloom is apparently off the rose, I wouldn't imagine you'd have any problem getting good tickets just walking up to the ticket window. Prices are $18 and $14, IIRC.

You can also order them online at this link: http://neu.universitytickets.com/user_pages/category.asp?id=86

Hope you have a great time.

We're only tied for 8th with umASS. I don't know who has the tiebreaker.

At this point I think we have the tiebreaker. We are tied in the standings but have 1 more league win. Looking at the schedules, UMass has a tougher road to hoe than we do I think. We really need to take 3 points from Providence this weekend at home. UMass plays 2 in Maine, then 2 against UNH and 2 with Merrimack. Not unreasonable to think they could go winless. On the other hand, we have these two against Prov, 2 at home vs Maine and 2 with BU. The way we're playing, I can also see us going winless, but taking 3 points this weekend should get us into the playoffs, I think. We'll see....

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

He's another one whose stock has plunged this year.

I always find that comment to be an interesting one. Its really comes down to beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does it not? Yeah, Bitetto and Rawlings have both taken steps back since the team went on its winning run in November/December, and maybe the reason why we are not winning anymore is the play of those two.

That being said, in Bitetto's case, it might be Nashville looks at NU and does not feel that he can accomplish more here and that the coaching he is receiving is no longer top flight, and they want to get him in the minors ASAP.

For Rawlings, some team might feel the same thing. That their goalie coaches can do better work with him and that he is worth the investment now. Because lets be honest about Rawlings. The kid has improved from where he was as a freshmen, to where he is today. Its a Fact. If anybody cannot see that, they are blind. Side to side, stuff behind the net, even following the puck, 100% better. There have been some stupid stuff of late, nobody is denying that, but he is better which proves he takes to coaching. Every team out there knows it. It will be up to some team, which is probably weak in goal tending depth that may be willing to take a gamble on him for relatively short money. The question will be does Rawlings want the money and a chance to go pro, or does he want to finish his career for a fan base that really dislikes him?

One point though, does not the NHL collective bargining agreement come due after this summer? IF the players go on strike and the NHL shuts down, that may keep alot of college guys from jumping since they will have less of a chance to jump the AHL, will probably have to go to lower leagues as guys who would be fringe NHL and guys graduating from Major Junior and college take up those slots.

I don't think the fanbase dislikes Rawlings.. we're all rooting for him to succeed, as well as the rest of the team.
Of late though, his effort on ice leaves much to be desired..

Agree on both counts. Disappointed, frustrated, vexed--yes. But disliked on a personal level--no. Performance leaving much to be desired? Let's just say this: Top tier D1 goalies put their teams on their backs when the going gets tough and CR just hasn't done it, with the lone exception of the 1-0 shutout of ssc his freshman year. Aside from that one shining moment, his performance in "money" games has been lamentable.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

So is the row. :D
Doing it in the road would ruin the hoe.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Also of note, we hold the tiebreaker with UM-arse because of the number of league wins. We went 1-1-1 against them so the next tiebreaker is league wins. If we can maintain that lead, we have a good shot at making the playoffs.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

what a snoozefest tonight.. even if we were able to get pts tonight or/and tomorrow.. Maine is going to make quick work of us nxt wknd.
We just do not seem to know how to finish.. (don't have the teamwork or discipline to do so with the team that is left - Vrolyk injured as well tonight)...

Rawlings looks better but started off shaky once again.. not much else to talk about.

Hopefully we get some pts this wknd.. just don't know to what end... (Pimm & Saponari looked very good).
Husky hockey - forecast: foggy..

Nashville used a 7th round pick on Bitetto 2 years ago, you think about him more than they do. You really think they are that concerned about how he develops? Take a look and see how many 7th round picks actually ever sign with there team. They picked him cause the league said they had to make a pick. He would be better off staying in college have fun get a degree and take his shot with pro hockey after college. People need to wake up, he was a 7th round pick, were talking about they guy like he was top pick. Nasville has zero expectations for this guy. Get real. This like the Sox being concerned about the 55th round pick and can they sign him.

*6th Round

...but so is Josh Manson, and clearly that hasn't meant all that much.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

And so, the difference between an unhelpful double split and a sweep that would have given us a small cushion comes down to a bonehead goal against scored from along the goal line last night and a bonehead goal against scored from outside the blue line tonight. Even when he plays well overall, as he did this weekend, CR just seems to have a penchant for shooting himself in the skate.

And with that center ice goal Chris Rawlings has handed NU 9th place and no playoffs. For all you do this Bud's for you Chris.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Team played well enough to win tonight (more so than last night i thought).. but another fluky giveaway by CR who otherwise played quite well. This summer.. its all lateral movement & no other training, Chris ..:)

Anyway, was not just him.. Vermeersch missed a wide open net in OT.. did not look ready for the puck that came his way (why wouldn't you be ready?).. then again i guess we didn't need to be in OT tonight.

That last shot that went in, in extra time .. just .05 second earlier & we win this.. clearly went in after the beginning of the buzzer, right call by the refs.

UMass really took it to Maine tonight. We need to take a page out of that book... let the chips fall where they may (just go for it!).

Playoffs or not.. slider board training all week (all off season!?!) for Rawlings! :)

Slider board training? ..LOL the kid is going to be 24 years old and has been in a goal since he was 4. No amount of slider training is going to help his sorry *** at this point. He needs a fing physiatrist not another coach. His issues are mental, as anyone who lets in a puck from 100 feet away at center ice needs to lie back on the coach and discuss his untreated ADD and why his mother didn’t love him. What planet are you on? A 100 foot shot, taken from center ice? Those are shots that our Mite goalies let in for our town hockey teams at 6 am on Saturday mornings when we were 6. CW stops 47 shots but has breakdowns mentally every night and those lapses cost us because we are not talented enough to overcome such failures. He also sucks moving left or right and is absolutely terrible at the post, he is so big he is not tactile enough to hug the post or even know if he is remotely close to it. His parents should have given him a basketball because at 6’5’ I am convinced he is beyond the limit of physical stature that can play the position of Goalie at this level. No worries though, if mankind ever cross breeds horses with elephants, he could be a jockey!

Rossi.. you responded to it.. even with my smiley.. (loved your response though) :)
Seriously though.. he's got nothing to lose. Get on that board, heck even sleep on it & roll side to side.

And while we're at it.. forecheck.. forecheck U Maine early & every shift.. they have no answers for that (i'm serious about this though) - this from their own fans... Maine has had no answers for a strong forecheck. Madigan can check with Toot.. that's how you get the Blackbears..

Slide board for CR.. forecheck for everyone else! Get to work.. ! :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Does anyone know what happened to Vrolyk Friday? and how are Qualier and Ferriero coming along?

Not sure of status.. on a related note though, with all of our luck with losing key players to injury this season /recruits who changed their mind after Cronin's departure to the NHL..; kinda glad we're not getting the media attention our friends in Kenmore Sq are getting often it seems..this season.

Sadly, might be time for the NCAA to step in..and offer a course or two. And make it mandatory for all players; moving forward.

Unfortunately, more popularity for college hockey means a bigger "Big Man on Campus" entitlement for certain players. It's disgusting. We're not immune from it either on Huntington...this didn't get much publicity last year but its horrible: http://www.ontheforecheck.com/2010/10/5/1733181/anthony-bitetto-arrested
