Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Good luck against Mainge tonight from a BC fan, could use some entertainment on the board tonight...

Chris Rawlings is the most unfocused goalie I have ever witnessed at the D1 level.. in a 1 goal gm gives up a goal from close to center ice AGAIN.. win or lose tonight, he does not give the team (a team beset by injuries to begin with).. a fighting chance.

I am glad he is benched..regardless of the final tally tonight. I actually saw him looking down when that shot was launched.. unbelievable.

OMG.. Rawlings sucks, that was a shot form 110 feet away, again.. do you all think it's drugs! What this team needs are 3 new goalies and an entirely new coaching staff. Oh please, we now have the “Tim Army” of Huntington Ave at the helm. If I here the term “compete level” one more time in a press conference because our head coach is so utterly challenged to express himself verbally, I am just going to lose it.

I went to NU with this guy, I was a freshman and he was a senior and now I remember exactly what the issue was with him. He is stupid! When I went to NU they had lots of stupid people with marginal intellectual and scholastic ability enrolled, however almost none of them actually ever graduated, unless they were on the hockey , football or basketball team.

Let’s face it, HE playoffs are likly down the tube. We will likely have to regretfully and painfully, endure 3 or 4 more seasons of this crap as well, because if you can't f**ing recognize that CW sucks you should not be coaching at the DIV 1 level. Why do we have a bench full of un-drafted goalies at the DIV 1 level? We can’t recruit a drafted goalie to play in the best US college hockey division and receive a free 250k education at a university that is ranked 64th nationally for academics . I don’t see what the issue is! The sad thing is that I promissed to the kids my town's Midgit AAA team to both games next weekend and all of them with the exception my kids will be rooring for B f'*ing U.

I notice on the Heisenberg site, you guys recruited a goalie named Jon Gilles. He's 6' 5" and looks like he'll cover a lot of net by just standing there.

I'm thrilled you have started using paragraphs in your posts, though I can't seem to figure out if you're saying Rawlings or Witt sucks in your last paragraph. CW?

Also, poke around online for some info on incoming goalie Jon Gillies; he's slated to be picked in the upcoming NHL draft after posting a solid couple of seasons in the USHL.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I do not think Rawlings letting up the easy one was the issue tonight, does anyone really think that cost us the game? If he makes that save right there we go on to win? Sure did not look like it to me.

I think total collapse of team defense and focus up front was the issue. Rawlings was fine on Friday, as the team in front of him seemed to have a clue. Tonight, not so much.

There were also 3-4 guys in the lineup tonight who should have been in the stands, that did not help much either.

As for JM, like i said a few weeks back, hopefully he does the right thing and walks away on his own. Injuries and all, no way this team should be sitting in 9th place.

This season was lost when they gave up the 2-0 lead to bu , first game back from the holiday break. They never recovered.

edit: When was the last time NU had a drafted goalie? The guy in the NHL was not drafted. The guys before him were not. The best I ever saw, Robitallie was not. You do not need a "drafted" goalie to have success. You need a team 100% on the same page, special teams that are average at best, and a coach that can coach. We have none of the three right now. Average special teams this year and we are sitting somewhere in the 5-7 spot easy right now. Look at how many 1 goal games we lost because the PP was 0-whatever and the PK let in one or two. -16 on special teams. The one positive hold over from Cronin has been the team excels at full strength. One negative holdover that this coaching staff has made worse is the special teams.

..also did not help that we lost 2 more guys that were in the lineup Friday in our 'W' over Maine.. both lost to concussion. One of them being the team Captain. With the team we have left.. & their current psyche.. not sure i want there to be a playoffs. This bunch is not mounting any comebacks & even if they were to.. they have a goalie back there who would let them down (i feel), as he has so often this season..

congrats to Maine.. good team, nice comeback tonight.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Yes. You ***** MORON!

Besides the fact that we are short handed and had 2 more players miss this game (which you probably didn't know), the goalie is an issue.

Where were you when we played the beanpot first round? Sully's tap make you pass out before we lost 7-2?

Where were you when he didn't even START in the beanpot consolation?

Where were you when PC scored from behind the goaline? The only goal of the game!/

Where were you when PC scored from CENTER ICE? Where we had to score to salvage a tie.

It is this ***** RABBLE RABBLEness where NU can't do anything wrong. Was it the defense tonight? Maybe. But our starting goalie of several years let in 3 very SOFT goals on 4 shots in 5 minutes. I barely saw him play!

This is a trend that has lasted a month. I am now worried about the health and wellbeing about Rawlings. Forget him playing a minute of meaningful hockey passed this point. I'm worried he'll live until 30.

NU fans need to realize that this is unacceptable. How many Beanpot losses? How many sub .500 seasons? How many Beanpot swoons?

This is a culture that should not continue. I for one am done with this. We need to change this. We need to let the higher ups know that under .500 is not acceptable. That .500 is not acceptable. Lets make some noise to Roby (if he still has a job in June), and to Aoun.

Let's wake up and act like BC and BU. Maybe then we'll have a program like them.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Your still an idiot after all these years speed racer. Reread my post. I mentioned the fact that guys were missing nor did I make excuses for the team.

So Rawlings is supposed to come up with the save on that first goal? How? Which goalie makes that save? Its a 3 on 1 and the pass goes right across the goal mouth. The only team that misses that is NU. The only way any goalie makes that save is if the shooter hits the goalie. Maine forwards typically do not miss. The third goal the PK f-ed up. A pass that should never be able to be make from behind the net, (pretty sure it was no look too) is made to a guy streaking in all alone. Pimm 100% whiffed on his guy who scored basically on an open net bang bang play. 2nd one sucked. Learn to watch the game.

As for the three PC goals. I am sure he would like all three back. I am sure that he would have liked the offense to put in more then three goals too. Rawlings was not the reason they could not win against PC, the offense blowing chance after chance was. Games tied going into the third and each night they had clean breakways, the Saturday PC game multiple ones, and they missed the net each time. I put Saturday against PC on Manno more then Rawlings, he blew chance after chance without even forcing Beaudry to make a save on him. Hell, the kid tried to go upstairs and hit the Doghouse. You hold a team to 2 goals, no matter how they go in, you should win.

I was center ice front row balcony as always for the Beanpot and watched Rawlings and the entire team collapse around him. Not to mention we were outclassed and out gunned by a more talented BC squad who was probably tired of us hanging around with them in every game and finally took us behind the barn and taught us a lesson.

What does Rawlings not starting the beanpot consolation game have to do with anything? Was that loss his fault too? Why should he start the game to begin with. thats always play the backup game, no matter who has coached.

I am not making excuses for the program. I think this season is a 100% disaster brought on by a head coach with no coaching experience who never should been under consideration for the job to begin with. Compound that with more injuries and in season suspensions then I have ever seen in 15 years of following this team, and this is what you get. A team that at its best should probably be in the 5th to 7th range, much like last years squad with a chance to win on the road again.

Like I said in my earlier post, the season turned when they were up 2-0 on bu in January, and blew it. They got swept that weekend, got swept the net weekend. Got to place the worst team in the league and won 2, and have managed two wins since then.

Get used to it though. JM is not going anywhere for awhile. Just hope that he can come up with a goalie because there is no way Gillies comes here to play next year. Not after Roy writes him and his family a nice check to go play for him in the Q. Heck, if I were Gilles and had the chance to play under one of the Top 10 goalies of all time, the number on that check would not have to be that big. Maybe JM can convince Rawlings to give it one more go.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I like the " class" this team exhibited on the ice last night. They play hard and don't resort to "goon" tendencies. Couldn't always say that about previously coached teams at NU.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Maybe it's not my place and if you don't want to hear it just skip over it. Granted I've only watched about 10 NU games this year but I don't get the trashing of Rawlings esp in light of the Beanpot.

Goal by goal:
1st: a turnover at the blueline leads to the best FR in HE 1 on 1 with a Dman who drops to the trailer who has a clear shot from about 20 feet away. Should he have saved it? Maybe
2nd: a turnover in your own zone leads to a minibreakaway with the best FR in HE who slips it 5 hole. Sorry can't turn the puck over in your own zone towards the middle of the ice.
3rd: inability to hold the blueline in BC's zone on a powerplay leads to a SH 2 on 1
4th: 3 on 2 for BC, Rawlings pops the rebound in the air and is banged in. I think this is the one from an NU perspective that I would have the biggest issue with thus far.
5th: an exact replica of 3rd goal. Turnover at your blue line leads to a SH 2 on 1

The other two he wasn't in for.

From my POV it's a talent issue that extends far beyond between the pipes.

I will again say, I have NO IDEA why anyone thinks this team is any better than where they are in the standings, they are totally a 9th place team. Better goaltending they are fighting for 6th, that's it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

OMG, 6th or 9th, either way, is absolutly not good enough for this team. Unfortunately, this team is failing on 2 major fronts and 2 major fronts only! Goaltending, since the 1st of the year and coaching since mid October, Period.

Everybody has injuries, and early losses to either, pro, minor and major junior. Hell, BU lost an entire line of "sex offenders" and they actually got better! I can’t tell you how disheartening letting in a 110 foot goal at this level is to the offensive players. It steals the wind form your sails and while all these 20 something’s would never utter a bad word about CW because they as athletes are trained to know better. Any psychologist would tell you that in their minds they are saying what the *******K get this kid out of here!

I don’t want to hear who is a nice guy or not, it’s all PC 21st century BS. Simply, you can’t have a desk job in charge of what trees are going to be replaced on Mt. Ryder, what broken bricks are in the pathway from Stetson West to the Fens, and how many toilets need to be plunged in the Ell Center and then expect to pick up coaching a DIV 1 hockey team that played 8th most difficult schedule in the nation.

I blame Roby, he needs to be fired and unless all of the alumni start to complain and for me complaining means I hold back $1000 donations, they will not get the message. He could be fired simply for the **** poor performance of the basketball team, which I might add since moving to the Colonial, a real "mid major" has been unable to recruit any talent worth while in a predominantly Mid Atlantic and Southern Division. JJB was a America East graduate and Janning signed his LOI when the team was in AE. The sad thing is that the basketball team, the only team that consistently went to the NCAA tournament in the 1980’s like clockwork is in worse shape under Roby than it has ever been before.

The universities athletic programs have arguably not kept pace with it's stellar academic achievements of the last 2 decades. My guess is that this will continue until the university administration is cleared of old time patronage placements from the days when the school was a marginal part time regional university and these power brokers are effectively and efficiently replaced with hungry, smart recent grads and business leaders who refuse to accept either academic or athletic under achievement at any cost.

I don't understand how this is all on Madigan? These aren't is players, give him some time.

Being a complete outsider, it's really hard to judge a coach based on his first season when he hasn't had a chance to recruit fully, and much less when there was an exodus of recruits after the former coach left.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Thiessen gets first win and Vitale scores a goal. Biggest day in NU hockey history.

Thiessen didn't have to make that many saves but he had a couple big ones in the 2nd that kept the Penguins in the game. Vitale with a great effort to grind out a goal, he's been a real solid 4th line player for them this year. Felt some NU pride today that was certainly missing after last night.

P.S. It's awesome that Brad has a black and red Husky paw on the back of his mask.
