Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Unfortunately, more popularity for college hockey means a bigger "Big Man on Campus" entitlement for certain players. It's disgusting. We're not immune from it either on Huntington...this didn't get much publicity last year but its horrible: http://www.ontheforecheck.com/2010/10/5/1733181/anthony-bitetto-arrested

Ah while I agree this charge and the allegations at BU are very serious and have no place in any society. I am fairly certain that the charges against AB were eventually dropped for lack of evidence. From the grapevine I was told that several witnesses had different accounts of the events, and at most a lesser misdemeanor charge may have been applied or dropped all together. HUSKY Five 0 kept this out of the sports pages as the investigation was on going. You all know how the consumption levels at a Symphony Rd party can lead to bad behavior, enough said. As AB would only have been 20 at the time, I assume the lesser charge may surround alcohol use. If anything else had transpired he would have been kicked out of school. On a better note congratulations to our Lady Huskies Hockey Team for winning the regular season WHEA championship for the 1st time in school history.

I don't think the fanbase dislikes Rawlings.. we're all rooting for him to succeed, as well as the rest of the team.
Of late though, his effort on ice leaves much to be desired..
Speaking from a student's perspective, I'd say 95% of the students (those who care, at least), are clamoring for Witt or Mountain to start over Rawlings. I would put myself in the 5% who want Rawlings in net. There's a reason he plays. As bad as he's been, he's still NU's #1 option and I've seen him steal a game more than once or twice. Maybe a night off would do his mind some good but with so much at stake I don't think now's the time for lessons.

Remember when people used to have the stones to compare him to Doug Carr?! Good to know we can all look back at those crazy days and have a laugh.

Yes, but the problem is that he hasn't been stealing any games since New Year's Eve. In fact, the opposite is true. He's actually been giving winnable games away at an alarming rate: The two against PC last weekend, the one against UNH the week before, the Fenway game against bc....and let's not even think about the stinkbomb against bc in the beanpot. Granted, he had a great run from Thanksgiving to New Year's but prior to Thanksgiving he was not more than average and since New Year's he has simply not been a D1-caliber goaltender.

I'm not saying this team would have done any better with Witt or Mountain but I can't help but notice that Jerry York had no hesitation going to a three-man rotation when Parker Milner foundered. Whether the rotation had anything to do with it or not, Milner seems to have come out of his funk and bc not only has another Beanpot but is back in first place.

You & Rawlings should get a room.. might help cure your obsession with him. :)

I don't think he's going to be stealing games from offensive powers Maine and BU. That said, you're probably right in saying he is our best option.

I've always thought that it has been unfortunate for Chris to have followed the best goalie in NU history. He is an above average collegiate goalie(most of the time), but Thiessen had set the bar much higher for a lot of the fanbase. Couple that with NU fans who follow the Bruins closely and watched Tim Thomas have a Vezina/Conn Smythe winning season and it seems like many have been spoiled by spectactular goaltending.

I think the most unfortunate thing for Rawlings is that he arrived at Northeastern as a starter. I don't think he was ready to be a starter as a freshman. Perhaps if he had sat behind Theissen for two years, and worked into the lineup gradually, he would have been better off. All the glaring mistakes and technical miscues could have been worked on in practices instead of games.
Disagree with your assessment of Rawlings. The "most of the time" thing is a ****ing qualifier.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Good numbers in the CCHL, for what thats worth. IIRC, Princeton forward Andrew Caloff and Lowell's Doug Carr both came from the CCHL. Other than that, not many notable names currently in the NCAA.
Not to troll ...

There definitely haven't been too many huge stars recently out of the CCHL. Lowell's Scott Campbell (graduated last year) wound up with 85 points though at the school, and would have been a 100-point scorer if he hadn't missed the majority of last season. As with most leagues, there are a few standouts in the CCHL that can make an impact at this level.

Also, Michael McMurtry (C 92) should be here next fall.

McMurty is leading his team in scoring. The kid who led his team in scoring last year, with over 100 points which is something this kid is not going to do, ended up at Alabama Huntsville. This kid is a walk-on and will have a tough time beating offensive powerhouse Steve Morra out of a spot in the lineup.

I'm not by any strech a huge fan of Rawlings. That said, I'm trying to be fair and look at his whole body of work. He's never had below a .913 SP in any season, which would put him slightly above average as a collegiate goaltender. I think he's a headcase and will always pee down his leg in big games (AKA the next four) but this whole "30 percent of the time he sucks all the time" feeling that I get from many who follow NU is a bit unfair.

You're being more than fair, giving him credit for compiling a decent save percentage. It's a little like pointing to the First Star thing he got last weekend after the goal from center ice. It's not enough.

Go Huskies.. let's give it our all tonight. Forecheck hard, as UMass has shown, Maine has some weaknesses, let's make the most of it.

Cmon Mr Rawlings, give us a fighting chance tonight. Let's get that first one at home.. worry about everything else later..

Play with discipline..no unnecessary penalties. Play with intensity, take it to 'em..make your plays, don't watch them make theirs.. shoot hard, shoot often! Let's get that 'W'.
Go NU! :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Whoop Whoop!!-big win tonight what a great overall effort,Qualier is back-good times!!

Hoping for a big win on Saturday night and attending the game also, great time to be a Huskies Fan.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

So proud of the team & their effort tonight!.. (imagine if we had the whole healthy bunch..).
Maine is an excellent team & we took it to 'em all night.. way to go. We gave up another shortie.. gotta work on that. Powerplay finally looking much better.. although i just prefer we play 5x5. Our discipline was solid tonight. Let's keep it going. I hope McLaughlin is okay... took a hard check at the end..

well, at least Maine does not get to sweep the weekend at all the Boston schools.. night all :).

Yeah, I guess concussions for both is the news. Interesting what they'll do tonight in regards to who will be the 12th forward. Possibly Drew Daniels and put Oskroba on D?

I'm getting pretty tired of Saponari's apparent lack of effort on most shifts. I thought he was awful last night, just going through the motions until he found the puck on his stick in the offensive zone. There's a reason why BU and BC didn't want him. If we are going to make the playoffs and make any type of noise he needs to start playing like a first line winger again.
