Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Perfectly fair point.

Salut. I mean they seem pretty even right now, both having notched a point in 8 games and scored a goal in 5. Ludwig has the higher PPG barely with 14 in 13 as opposed to 12 in 12. But at this point, Gaudreau is an afterthought. I care about what this team has now.

For the NU folks. I'm planning to make the trip to Matthews for the Lowell game Saturday night. What's the ticket situation like this season?

Someone should tell the fool who gave their #1 vote to Notre Dame that last weekend happened

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Excellent job last weekend, kudos to your team!

You can buy individual tickets here..
http://neu.universitytickets.com/user_pages/category.asp?id=86

You get to choose your section/ seats.. or just walk up to the window, but certain sections might be gone.
G'luck. Hoping to see a good, hard fought contest with the 3rd, quality (ranked) opponent in as many weeks.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

DogHouse is going to be standing room only yet again after these last three W's. Now can the rest of the alumni show up and fill the lower bowls? This is a big opportunity to beat another ranked team. Lowell is very good.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Who's the Jerry's Kid that gave Notre Dame a First-Place vote after they got humiliated by the Huskies...AT Home...Twice?

(EDIT: Just saw Post #483, which says as much)

Please make sure to shower, and de-louse before you come to the city please. And so you know, and not kidding here, security has gone up a level, like they are protecting the Queen of England every game, so leave the needles and tourniquet back home, and make sure to go to your seat, and only your seat. Noisemakers they do not seem to have a problem with though.

Should be a good one at Matthews. NU has been playing well for a few weeks, and now the results are starting to come. UML is going to be surprised, they wont be able to generate the same amount of offense against NU as they did last week against the orange cone defense of UNH.

My one big worry is NU does not come out ready to go as they have on the road the last two weeks, playing at home they come out a bit lazy, though that has not been this teams style. On the other hand, i have seen UML come into Matthews to many times when NU was hot, or had something on the line, only to see them drop a 5-2 game.

My fav game though was the one back in 2001, the night before the snow-bowl game at Foxborough (i was there), UML #2 in the country NU not ranked, NU scored the first two goals in the first, UML got three goals in the 2nd, NU got three goals in the third. All goals scored into the same goal, right in front of my balcony seat.

Yeah, I was at both those games you referred to ... the Lowell game wasn't quite as enjoyable for me as it was for you. :)

I'm **** impressed with how all three of teams with new coaches have played this year, and even though your record doesn't show it (but it's getting there) I know both Lowell games this weekend are going to be tough.

I am not. I think its way to early to tell if any of the three are going to be good coaches over the long haul. I go back to the last time both PC and NU changed coaches, both at the same time when Cronin and Army were hired. PC got off to a wicked hot start the first half of that season, and then bottomed out for the next few years. NU had a three win season that first year and got better and better year in and year out.

I said at the beginning of this year, NU was going to be good. They lost the three key seniors, yes, but they returned a bunch of guys who had scored before, and whose minutes were now going to go up. Rawlings is a + goalie, who has only gotten better year over year, and if they could get anything out of the freshmen defense they would be probably in the hunt for the 4th seed. Losing some of the freshmen class was not a big deal, as some guys stayed on, and they replaced the ones that chose to go elsewhere. I think people also underestimated what bringing in Saponari was going to do up front, and he has been the most consistent forward this year, no goals which is weird, but whoever he plays with, scores.

Problem this year was they got off to a cold start due to a brand new coaching staff and a head guy who had not coached in 18 years. They made some mistakes, juggled their lineup, learned who could and could not play, made some tough decisions on fan favorites, but now that they have gotten their feet wet, they are off and running. Even more unfortunate was the fact that every game up until two weeks ago was conference games so no chance to tool around with stuff in games that would not matter as much. (basically saying an at large bid is not going to happen going in, but after the last two weeks, who knows). Anyway, Weigart was an idiot to say they were a 10th place team.

I think what the coach at your school and at PC has done is more amazing. Both of your schools have basically brought back the same teams that stunk last year, and have managed to get some wins. Very little roster turnover for either of your schools. You guys have gotten MUCH better goal tending which has done wonders, and PC found a bit more scoring. I do wonder though if UNH and Maine being down has helped your school out a bit. 4 out of 6 wins from the two normal powerhouses who have struggled to date. PC has been helped by a suck UVM squad, and the sweep against a Mack team, that NU had dead to rights in two games, but could not get it done. (would love for NU to get them now, we would wipe the floor with them)

I think talent will rise though, and not sure if UML and PC have the depth or know how to win over the long haul like NU does. This NU squad has made the Garden two out of the last three years, won a playoff series at bu last year, and honestly, has I feel has more talent then both PC and UML. Plus the majority of NU's players going through the suspension of their coaches last year, and winning during that period of time, shows they can deal with outside interference and still get the job done on the ice. It will be interesting to see how UML and PC respond when things do not start going their way.

But hey, great start for all three teams.

Just to clarify, I'm not putting any of these three teams at the Garden. I was just noting that I like what I've seen so far.

Almost this entire post is absurd.

You take credit away from Lowell and PC for beating up teams you consider not as good anymore (UNH/Maine) or teams that you ALMOST beat, Merrimack. Yet, Northeastern is 1-4-1 against those teams, and 0-1-1 against an absolutely wretched Amherst squad. Protip: You win, or you lose. Lowell and PC have won those games. Northeastern has not. No amount of spin is going to change that.

In terms of talent, you're welcome to your opinion. It's wrong, but you're welcome to it. NU has the worst PP in Hockey East, ninth is scoring offense and 7th in PK. That's going to strike fear into the hearts of Hockey East teams across the region. Rawlings is very good, no doubt about it, and without him Northeastern would be in a much bigger hole, if that can be believed. (Hint: He's still just the third best goalie in HE)

Props on stringing some wins together against Notre Dame and Michigan, but the sudden attitude shift toward thinking your suddenly a home ice team in Hockey East is kind of hysterical.

I guess you cannot read. I never said NU was home ice, I said they could possibly be close to end come the end of the season, and unlike other people who write here, I was not down on NU when they struggled out of the gate, because they did the same thing last year, and turned it around. Like I said, it took awhile for the entire coaching staff to figure out who they wanted to go with, change up some lines, most importantly they changed up the defensive pairings, and since the weekend against the Mack where they tied and lost in OT, they have been playing very good hockey.

The PP stunk last year too. And they year before that, and the year before that. if it continues to stink, no surprise, but they will not continue to tick in under 10%, will they be higher then 7th in the league, that would be a surprise. As for the PK, it needs work, but will be middle of the pack by the end of the year.

And yes, NU is more talented up and down their roster then probably UML and PC combined. Deal with it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I'd rather just be a underdog.. you know.. & play smart hockey and plug away..

That talent/no talent thing.. knowing how hard it is to make a D1 roster today.. we are talking about some really good hockey players scattered across the Hockey East (and other D1) landscape. Do some stand out..sure..but without the team around them (made up of other solid players), no individual talent stands a chance. Just my opinion :)

Looking forward to the game this weekend. Lowell can score.. & fast.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Very little roster turnover for either of your schools.
FWIW, Lowell has 11 new players on their roster this season (10 freshmen and a junior). Of the 29 players on the roster last season, 12 left either due to graduation (5) or didn't fit into what Bazin wanted. I'm not sure how that's very little roster turnover.

Anyway, I apologize, wasn't really trying to get into an argument here ... more to give a compliment.

Whats the point of a message board if not to argue? Compliments are for weaklings and for people who want to feel good about themselves. And people who go to sporting events and do the wave.

Fair enough ... more I don't like to troll. :)

And I f'in hate the wave.

Also, not to quibble, but of those 10 freshmen you only play 6 of them on a consistent basis. NU is playing with 5 freshmen week in and week out too.

You said there wasn't much roster turnover and I was pointing out that you were wrong. 8 new players on the roster have played at least 10 games this season, meaning that 40% of the guys on the ice night in/night out are new players on the roster.
