Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Nice job. Northeastern out played them (MC) for 2.5 periods and had a well earned tie, but really could have won this game. Net minding on both sides was pretty dam good. However NU played in my view its best hockey of the season with contributions from just about everybody on the depth chart. If we can make it a 3 point weekend that would be terrific. Also, I have to say the rink at Merrimack, seems to have really short glass, and while I have seen improvements over the years at the Thom Lawler, its not so conducive to seeing the game too well. Sight angles are not nearly what they are at the old barn. I found it difficult to follow the puck no matter where I was standing. It's more like the Babson rink or an spruced up MDC rink on roids then a DIV one spot, but the team, seems pretty good. I was thinking that with departures of some of the O from last year MC would kind of stink but my thought is that perhaps we are a bit better than I originally thought, as our guys really seemed to Gel tonight. If you missed it, it might be the game to look back at and say this was a big step! Can't make it tomorrow. Also, nice to see that NU gets to skate at Fenway vs. BC. I am thankful for the opportunity that will gain more national attention for the program. I really think NU should have been playing there every year, I mean the Red Sox played at NU, and for us not to make the invite list till now kind of frosts my balls a bit! Last week I made some comments based on information I had heard from my ties to the University, and I apologize if I upset anyone. While I can never verify the stories I hear in the Alumni Club I will exercise better disgresion in the future before making remarks derogatory.

Northeastern deserved to win tonight. Two posts, a few missed opportunities on wide open empty nets. Much different game from the first meeting. NU played a lot better and MC didn't bring their A game. I'd be very surprised if NU doesn't finish 5th or 6th. Anything worse would be a disappointment for NU in my opinion as an MC fan, now having seen every team in the league.

What I posted on DD:

Thought we outplayed a very good team tonight. Cannata is a stud, he made a couple of unbelievable saves to perserve the tie. I'm not a huge Rawlings fan but I have to give him his due tonight, he played very well. Would like to see Sap play with Ludwig at some point; they are clearly our two best forwards. I think its very reasonable to hope for two points tomorrow night. Ferriero looked much better tonight than he did last Saturday, hopefully he continues to become the player we all think he can be. Dong may not be one of the most skilled players on our team but I think he is an asset that other teams need to perpare for. His speed is exciting for our fans and treacherous for our opponets, he needs to be consistently in the line-up.

I'm confident this team is going in the right direction. It is a very young team who learns from each game and hopefully will feast on Lowell, Providence and Vermont when the time comes.

Have to give credit where credit is due, but I don't think NU will be able to play at that level consistently IMO. Watching that NU team I was instantly reminded of the MC team from a few years ago (the one that lost like 12 1-goal games, but was regarded as the first of the turn around seasons).

If NU can play with that grit night in and night out, on a consistent basis, they will be in every game. But playing that style takes a lot out players.

I too made several comments in the Varsity Club a couple weeks ago about our being the only Boston school not invited. Thing is though, I'm not sorry I said something. This late addition to have us play BC is clearly an afterthought as we weren't considered for the real frozen Fenway. As I said, if you continue to let them treat us like ____ then they will continue to treat us like ____. Apparently someone said something and got us a game at Fenway. No other schools going to advocate on our behalf, we have to continue to do it for ourselves.

Swung by your game last night at Merrimack. You guys deserved the 2 points. NU always brings that lunchpail attitude to their game. Love watching NU play.

Nice to get that first road point.. 'Mack is a good team (as they were last season), so playing well at Lawler will serve us well.
Warriors have also been really solid on the road.. let's not forget that tonight.

I hope we can get the 2 pts tonight in front of the home crowd..

Go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

2 wks in a row giving up a 2 goal lead.. ugh.
Congrats to 'Mack, their special teams were.. special!

5x4, 5x3, whatever it is Coach is running.. it is not working.

To give up a shortie in OT.. sums up our fortunes..

Our team does not suck.. the powerplay absolutely does! It is the 800lb gorilla in the room!!!

Sincerely hope there is light at the end of the tunnel this season..
i think we'll make some noise come playoff time; but surprise us any of these weekends NU!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I agree, the PP is absolutely horrible. They do a lot of cycling, but cannot get any shots to the net. Hats off to Merrimack, they did a great job blocking shots and taking away any type of passing lanes. Hope they figure this out sooner rather than later!! Overall, the team comes out strong in every game but seems to run out of gas towards the end. We need a full 60 minute effort!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

One word: Unacceptable.

Add another word to the list: Embarrassing. If they aren't feeling a complete sense of embarrassment right now, then they have absolutely no drive. They had a golden opportunity with the man advantage for the last 5 minutes of regulation and they get off how many shots? 2? Follow that up with another 2 minutes in OT and I don't remember a SINGLE shot. So many opportunities tonight. Enough with cycling the **** puck, take it to the net. Enough with the dump and chase mentality, carry it in. Enough with letting players camp out at the top of the crease for an entire PP. Enough with the retaliation penalties. I expect better at this point, especially when it comes from players who have an A on their sweater.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm sick of seeing this crap. They show flashes of brilliance, they just seem to only care about doing it for half the game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Just a thought: maybe we can get Tirrell to sing the National Anthem before the third period also. The kid's got pipes, and the team has come out hot in the first the last two homes games.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Hey Fellas,

While you're working on the PP this week, some of the PK guys need to take responsibility for clearing out opposing players from the front of the net. Both of Merrimack's first 2 goals were scored because there was a guy parked right in front of Chris for a prolonged period of time. He never saw either of those shots. Someone has to clear guys from the front of the net and not allow them to do this.

They scored because our PK is as non-aggressive as it gets. At this level of hockey, if you let snipers walk in with 2 months to pick their spot, they will. An effective PK forces the PP to adapt to them, not vice versa.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Anyone know if the ticket office is going to offer season ticket holders first dibs on tix for the outdoor game? If so anyone know when that would be?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

0 for whatever.. again on the powerplay.
Giving up the go ahead goal with 3 secs left in regulation.. ugh
The struggle continues...
