Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Not sure how many NU students post here, but anyways:

What was the reasoning behind having the main (ie chant starting) portion of DogHouse switch to the band side this year, wouldn't it make more sense to stay where you were cause there are more fans on that end, plus it's awkward starting the North-Eastern chant with Eastern first.

Random, I know, just wondering.

No switch. The Doghouse is still on the Doghouse side. Just happens like that occasionally I guess.

Crucial to lose two of our best players against BU and BC.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Seems like I saw it written somewhere that the two players missed curfew in Minnesota. Really wondering if Ferriero is ever going to get with the program. Hoping Pimm doesn't follow him like a puppy dog.

Pimm marchs/skates to to the beat of his own personal drummer. He's an interesting and fun character. I doubt he'll follow Ferriero or anyone else like a "puppy". I wouldn't expect the two to be linked together in this way, but, hey I've been wrong before. Lots

OTOH, Cody Ferriero has certainly improved his play this year. He's been productive and an entertaining player to watch. Unfortunately, his improvement on the ice isn't being matched by growth in maturity. His rule violations have cost him to miss 7 games - 35% of our schedule so far - including two games vs bc that I'm sure he would have wanted to play in. He projects to have been our #2 goal scorer and #3 point producer. Of the seven games that he has missed, we have lost 5 and tied one.

I wish he would make up his mind about whether or not he wants to help this team or if he wants to be elsewhere (i.e. the NHL - ready or not). I'm sure the coaches would also like the answer to that question.

Know if it was only for the weekend? Need pimms points and ferrerios shot back... Especially over dongara oy

I couldn't agree more. I was a big supporter of Dongara coming into the year, but this weekend was the final straw for me. The kid is fast but I don't think he knows he's on a team. He's always trying to take the puck in himself and take the shot himself. He's constantly trying to make moves on guy's that he's never going to get past and 9/10 times it results in a turnover. I like his energy and I think he could be of use if he just learned when to pass and when to dangle but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

What a disaster. Maybe I should head back to Maryland. 3 game losing streak since I returned!

There must come a time in every players career whether they need to decide to be either an actual participant in the program, or a pretender doing their own thing. Who knows. Getting caught twice should be a wake up call, but the first one should have been enough. I don't know him personally obviously, so we will have to see. Being a fellow college athlete on a sport with a much larger roster, I have come to understand there is always trouble makers or kids that cannot stay out of trouble on the team. Everyone knows who they are and sometimes they just cannot help themselves. Doesn't make them bad kids, but just kids who sometimes are more propelled to make bad decisions. College athletes are no different then other kids in your neighborhood. The only difference is athletic ability and the luck of being born with it.

Regarding answering your "question", the coaches will not be waiting for an answer the third time around.

Who gets fired 1st? Peter Roby, Bill Coen or Jim Madigan, prediction Coen Madigan Roby! Why AD is responsible ultimately responsible of the coaches and the coaches ultimately for the results both Madigan and Coen have tallent that should place them <.500. I give each <3 years.

Rossi, I take it you were at the game tonight? Calm down a bit, fella. Can't speak to Coen and his team, but I do follow the Hockey Team. Roby works for people (BOT, School Prez), right? I assume he has their support, because this is nothing new while Roby has been in charge. Until the AD gets his marching orders from people who CARE about Athletics being emphasized more, nothing will change. Think Jean Yawkey-Haywood Sullivan. This team puzzles me.
On very good teams, the best players are the leaders. What have our "best" players done? Rawlings HAS played great this season, but froze badly at clutch moments vs BU last week. Bitetto was the best D-man returning, but looks to be trying to do too much, resulting in erratic play. The team starts playing better and 2/3 of the first line is suspended for two important LEAGUE games against strong squads. The other 1/3 of that line loses his cool and melts down in one of those games. (Ferriero, Pimm, Quailer) The back end of the forward ranks is smallish and unskilled. (Bill Parcells once said he had the worst kind of team - small AND slow.) A few players who should be ready to contribute by now, still aren't. (Tuckerman, JDaniels, Vermeesch) A player brought in to be a scorer hasn't scored much. (Saponari) Of the five freshmen, it's a mixed bag. From impact (Karlsson) to potential (AReid) to pleasant surprise (Cornell) to learning how to play "college hockey" (Manno and Manson). Can this all be put on this Coach. Not all of it. But he has to deal with it, even if he didn't create it. The discipline that some of these players were so glad to be out from under needs to be restored. Off-ice antics and lack of on-ice poise do reflect on how the players perceive their Coach. If Madigan wants to succeed (despite Roby), there is much work to be done.

Its not the dog in the fight.. its the fight in the dog! Forget last night (can do nothing about it now).

We can do something about tonight.
Let's go Huskies, let's get it together! You guys collectively can solve this! Play unselfish.. win your battles.. the result will take care of itself.
Rawlings had a bad gm no question.. he's allowed to have one. You guys all had a bad gm.. fine, allowed one.

Yesterday's history. Let's get back on track team!
I'll be there in the stands doing my part. :)
Go NU

Hard to put any kind of positive spin on this. Anybody care to try?

yeah... you had an entire third where Lowell couldn't control the puck whatsoever... don't bury yourself too much... you deserved the win... but that's the way it goes sometimes.
