Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Anybody else going to the games in MN?

Former NU recruit turned St Cloud State player Mitch MacMilan recently left their program due to a lack in playing time. FWIW he probably would not have had those issues if he had matriculated to NU. Just interesting considering some of the hype about his NU commitment and subsequent decommitment.

Good catch. Another reminder not to overreact one way or another to recruit decisions.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

One of the reasons that MacMillan gave our coaches for backing out (he never did sign his NLI) was that he didn't think he'd get enough playing time. This seemed strange as he was 20 years old, had scored 60 goals in 59 games and was named a first team all star and player of the year in the Coastal Division of the BCJHL. Where was his self confidence.

It appeared that his self assessment was correct. So much for stats. He simply couldn't skate well enough to play at the D1 level. There is no published stat for skating skills, but the scouts who actually watch these guys know who can skate and who needs double runners.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I watched the steam and must say that it seemed to me that we should have won this game easily. We for the most part dominated play in transition and on O, with perhaps the exception of a explosive flurry of Tiger pride in the 3rd period where they controlled the play. We must have had like 40 shots! However, we had several defensive lapses and our PK/PP teams played like ****. I loved CR in the shootout, as I feel he certainly had the more difficult shots and I think did a terrific job, at getting them to the final. I will take the tie to keep the streak w/o a loss alive. However, this tie felt like more of a loss as clearly they did not play as well as they had been 3 weeks ago. Hopefully, they shake out the cob webs and take out the Gophers tomorrow, who are up 4 to 0 at the end of the 2nd on Niagara. Also, in the shootout NU tried to get to cute, just shoot the puck! They did so many dekes they fooled the shooters and not the net minder! Although, they look very much like little kids, so happy to be in a shootout and it was fun to watch even on the 2nd rate stream. My final thought was that playing on the larger ice surface winded them a bit or presented some challenges or at least some diff. to which they were not accustomed. Anyway good luck tomorrow night.

They better pull their heads out of their ***es tonight if they want to hang with "The U". NU is a far superior team to Princeton but let them hang around all game. I hope they bring back their style of play during the winning streak or I will be walking out of Mariucci the brunt of all jokes.

Rossi, I know you are huge on the CR bandwagon but the second Princeton goal was so soft. They should have never been able to hang a 3-spot on CR. He needs to play out of his mind tonight. Minnesota looked like a well oiled machine last night with speed, size, crisp passing, and offensive talent.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Not certain why Gophers played so undisciplined and watching on the stream from Boston, you really cant see every play, as lots of calls away from the grainy uni-vision camera are out of the frame. However, your not going to win any hockey games going to the box 12 times. Not sure if they were all deserved but only 2 goals where short handed. I will take it and hopefully the powers that be finally rank us. I think we have had one of the harder schedules in the country so far playing teams that have been ranked in the top 3 or 4 at the time we played them 9 times so far in 18 games. We have done well in this tournament overt he years. Hopefully, we can put some more quality Hockey East wins together in the 2nd half against BU and BC and we might see them again in the tournament. Can't believe I am saying this and I know its early, but it might be possible. I know the Gophers were without a couple of top players. However, you have to admit CW is the difference, I think he is playing well right now made some mistakes in the Princeton game but shook off 3 weeks of rust due to down time and a likely trip back home to British Columbia for the holidays. However, considering our team is a patchwork of kids, and we lost the entire senior 1st line scoring from last year, Cronin's departure to the NHL, a slew of waived commitments, to our rivals, Major Jr and Minor Pro, I was really expecting <10 win season. I stand corrected. I also did not think the new coach who I have met a handful of times over the years, was the best qualified for the job, because I thought he had been away form the ice for too long a period, working in administration and in positions not related to the hockey program, but clearly something he is doing is working right now, so nice job coach. I think his post game interviews and between period snap shots show how well he knows the game and I have a feeling although he was a good player he might be an even better coach, motivator, facilitator and leader. Nice job Huskies! On another note I would love to see a game in that new Minnesota rink it looked like a great crowd, clearly not the doghouse barn, but a wild atmosphere filled with real puck fans like we have here in Boston for sure. Looking forward to the 2nd half, I guess we all are, but really, 6 weeks ago did any of us see or expect this unprecedented kind of swing ? They have not been lucky in any of these wins they are earning these wins, they even make adjustments during the games when needed and that is somthing I have not seen in a very long time.

Not great officiating tonight, but a huge win for this year's team and for the NU program as a whole. We're in a great place right now after the 1-7 start..big weekend in two weekends against BU and BC

BU is beatable. Heck, the way NU is playing right now, so is BC, but I've got some real hopes for BU. The Terriers were outplayed pretty comprehensively by ND tonight, and ND was down almost as much talent as BU.

Just wanted to pop in and say congrats on the tournament win! Good to see. Was following your game score while suffering through BU's game last night. 4-0 against the likes of Minnesota, Michigan and Notre Dame is impressive.

Craig, you've been posting here for years. Consider this to be a personal invitation to join and post on Dieharddogs.com. There's much more "Huskiana" there, and you will learn the proper spelling and disrespect for "bu". Your insights will be appreciated.

BTW, when may we address you as Dr. Craig?:)

Your guys played a tough team at home, while trying to adjust to your losses. You will be better by our Friday the 13th date, unfortunately ;)

Congrats to NU! Love seeing teams outside the big 4 doing well. Really looking forward to the UML v. NU series

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

...and unranked.

This is comical.

And meaningless - except as grist for the argument mill. We've beaten Minnesota, Michigan, Notre Dame twice all on their ice. We've beaten Lowell at Matthews. If they had votes, we'd be in the top 10. Only the results from the ice really matter.
