Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I had no internet for 2 days..it' s nice to be missed. LOL However, I have to admit that was perhaps the best game I have seen them play in years. Rawlings proved me wrong. He said he didn't change anything from the first 2 games but if you look at the tape he is a full foot to 2 feet in from where he was the 1st 2 BC games. The D stepped it up. That was a real quaility win. Nice job! Oh the crowd and atmosphere was terrific too. There were some empty seats but they were likely sold no shows. I really liked Rawlings and Sabastion's post game interviews. They played a great hockey game, stayed out of the box and stuck to the game plan. They dummped tons of pucks and shortened the ice they did not overcommit the D, there were less than 4 or 5 odd man rushes all nite. You have to say they really deserve to be ranked this week. I can't make the NH game but hope to be at both BU games. However, it is just one game, but I have to admint hat over the last 2/3 of the season they are playing fairly good hockey with many Freshman , so the bottom line is that things should be looking up. Oh and the word is that the University just wanted to follow all protocals 1st and perhaps reduce any NCAA sactions as a result of the self police style action. So in the end this suspension may have been a good thing. See ya.

RRegards,

Quick question.

Is it just me or is that every year we are talking about how good the freshmen of that given year are? Then, the very next year they fall off. I feel like the only skaters who put up numbers every year are freshmen and seniors. When's the last time a sophomore or junior put up any numbers? I need to go back 5+ years to Guerriero, Morris, or Ryan. Maybe Ginand?

Completely agree, forget where I posted it but that's my biggest beef with the cro regime, nothing from the wonderful recruits the year after. i dont get it, i dont think its all on cro, some of it has to be work ethic of the kids, sometimes its injuries, but these great promising recruits do fall off. mclaughlin is an exception, one of the hardest workers on the team (on ice anyway, off ice is all speculation).

I believe the biggest problem is with injuries the following year. Tuckerman, Quailer, etc... This team has run into a string of bad luck with injuries.

Agreed Morris was a legitimate sniper who couldn't stay healthy. Guerriero was great 35 pts, 29 pts, 35 pts, 48 pts. He set the table for Ryan and Morris and was a great two way player.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

McNeely and McLeoud have always been good for us all 4 years. Mcglaughlin is producing for us as a junior.

But yes in general it is very concerning. I thought J Daniels, Vermy, and Quailer would be among the best on our team and making a name for themselves in Hockey East this season. Dongara has more goals then all of them combined!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

From Sebastien:
“The players were much focused determined to apply Coach Cronin’s systems and game plan for 60 minutes. Our forecheck was really effective to allow us to play some offense and keep BC in their zone for prolonged periods of time and generating some good chances throughout the game. We focused on continuing those efforts. We played a much better game system-wise than we had the last two contests against the Eagles.
We would break the ice in terms of scoring on a nice play which started behind our goal line. Anthony Bitetto would retrieve the puck in the left corner and move it to his right to Luke Eibler (Pinckney, MI). Luke would waste no time riffling a 140 foot pass to Brodie Reid who recognized that lane was wide open. Against an unsuspecting Eagle defense, he skated to the net, protected the puck going from his forehand to his backhand and culminating the play by sliding the puck through the goalie’s 5-hole. End of 2: NU1-BC 0.
Braden Pimm would double our lead after a great trapping effort by Garrett Vermeersch who forced the Eagles D-man to give the puck away while attempting to regroup. Braden Pimm would collect the gift, skate through the slot and unleash a beautiful wrist shot on the blocker side. End of 2: NU2-BC 0.
Chris Rawlings (North Delta, BC) terrific in net for us all night. His rebound control was amazing all night certainly making a lot of saves look real easy. Unfortunately, we would not be able to protect the shutout as they would score their first goal of the game with 2:11 left on the clock. Despite pulling the goalie, we would keep our composure and manage to win the game.
Praise must go to Coach Cronin for all he has done for the program and developing these young men as hockey players and people. Greg recognizes the importance of mental strength with the players and the way they have responded to the adversity thrown at them in a very short amount of time is nothing short of remarkable. I know Greg is very proud of them.”

3 votes...what is that disrespect, we got 4 for getting 3 points vs. UMASS

poles are worthless, just useful for conversation. RPI, PWR are numbers to look at. Doesnt matter though, an at large bid is nowhere near our grasp.

Agreed. I'm not an NU fan, but rooted for them big time in the Beanpot. They have really impressed me the past month, but I'm sure voters still have in the back of their minds, "these guys lost 3 in a row to AHA teams."

It feels like the players at NU seem to regress as they get older, don't ask me why. The greatest example of this was Scott Selig who had a terrific freshman year almost ten years ago (geez, I'm getting old), got drafted, and then fell apart for the remainder of his collegiate career. This year we are seeing the same from Justin Daniels and Steve Qualier, albeit that both have had injury problems. If those two could return to their freshman form, this team would have two very scary scoring lines.

Quailer hasn't scored but has been out there making plays. J.D. has been a disappointment thus far.

Selig had one good game (just call him" Mr. Clutch") and that was it...

Nice weekend for the Huskies. You guys continue to reinforce the idea that no one wants to draw you in the 1st rd.

Could it be an issue of the system? We see freshmen come in every year and get a glimpse of their skills, only to have them tail off or just never progress. Seems like maybe it could be a product of the style of play, dump and chase, score some dirty goals, capitalize on mistakes, and play tight defense. You watch the BC transition game and you can see the freedom for the stars to be stars and score goals. I don't know the reason either, but I'm in agreement that it's frustrating to see all this talent not panning out.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I hereby nominate Rico Rossi for next head coach of NU men's ice hockey!!

Bring Jim Calhoun Back!
The university has defended Calhoun, a Hall of Fame coach who has led the Huskies to two national championships, saying the evidence does not support the NCAA allegation that he failed to promote an atmosphere for compliance.
NCAA investigators said UConn's staff made hundreds of improper calls and text messages to recruits, gave recruits improper benefits and improperly distributed free tickets to high school coaches and others.

Reid, Dongara and Oleksiak are the ones to watch for next year. Reid has the potential to be a fantastic player in Hockey East, he's already a 20 point producer as a rookie. He may beat Quailer's 25 point rookie season.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Dongara's shortie in the beanpot.. one of the better goals i've seen in coll hockey.
As i've said before.. i'll say it again.. the kid is pure hustle each shift he is out there.. love watching him skate.

Someone from Athletics pls get his goal up on Youtube. Need some solace from that gm. :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Well if we end up get charged with some sort of NCAA recruitment violation, we might not be talking about how good our freshman are for the next couple years...

Clearly the athletic department has it out for Cronin. The person I feel for is Albie O'Connell, who will go down in association with Cronin. Although we do not know the extent of the violations, a program's first offense of a few out of guideline texts and phone calls are typically a slap on the wrist. Cronin has a contract and will most likely get a nice severence to go off into the pro hockey world. Albie will not get a severence and, if fired, will have that on his coaching resume for life. Not fair.

I don't disagree with anything you stated. My feeling right now is that with the bball team under probation for two years for recruiting violations, NU is over blowing everything. NU is running scared because they don't want some really bad sanctions on their hands.
