Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

At least one point is better than nothing. We do gain a point on everyone below us due to them all losing tonight.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

7-7 final. We have salvaged a point.

Now lets salvage some more things (Cronin & co included) try clear things up..
Great poise by team under difficult circumsances not to mention.. after a tough Beanpot against the same opponent..

Tomorrow should be a good one as well. Let's just salvage baby..
Go Huskies :)

When you give up the tying goal with 15 seconds left, you haven't salvaged a point...you've surrendered one.

I'm glad to have it though. Home ice isn't a reasonable chase at this point but anything that helps build confidence at this moment, with the gauntlet ahead going into the playoffs and facing the adversity of Cronin's suspension, is a boost.

Matthews should be an absolute MADHOUSE tomorrow night. Hopefully, the contest and atmosphere lives up to the standard set up by these other classics from the past week.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

If you would've told me that after the Beanpot battle.. we'd have the Coach suspended the day of our outing at Conte against same opponent..who also happens to be ranked #1 in the country..and our team would still somehow put up enough goals to counter the BC offense (& power play killing units)..ugly as it was.. without Cronin or Albie behind the bench..

yet be in a position to earn a tie at Conte..

..well, let's just say.. 'glass half full' as team weathers through this.
Great to hear from you though (been quite a while).. :)

"Twenty-seven goals combined in two games is more like pond hockey.”

.. how can anyone not like Jerry York :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Omg, what an exciting game! However, lot’s of you are sugar coating again, time for your reality check! I was there and again, this time, with a loud contingent of husky fans neatly tucked up under the rafters in the upper left hand corner, and boy, did Rawlings suck!

He has no “A” game in big games today or any other day for that matter and really could not stop a leaky faucet if his life depended on it.

He is completely in the wrong position out of the net. He looked much a paraplegic who had fallen out of a wheel chair every time he went down; and sadly once he goes down he can’t seem to get back in position to stop more shots, which is essential when you are giving up 15 foot rebounds like there is no tomorrow! Is he is giving up? Not sure, but he has clearly lost his focus.

He moves from left to right about as well as a sliding screen door that is off its track.

It really was like watching a 50lb. bag of flour hit the floor from 10 feet off the ground. Again, no win against the metal of the league. He is positioned way too far out of the goal. He needs to stay in between the pipes and not be out so darn far out all the time on the secondary shots! He squares up as good or better than anyone else in the nation, but man he is shakey on the secondary shot(s) and move(s). He is big enough to stay put. The "Jolly Green Giant" in pads looks bewildered between the pipes. Crap, he is a horrible skater. If they don’t hand this over to Witt next year, I really give up. 3 or 4 of the 7 goals scored were absolute ****ters. I mean I wish I was wrong and perhaps he just needs to work with his coach, but somthing is not right with him!

These guys wanted to win so bad and for 2 games in a row against the # 1 team in the land have scored, what?, 13 goals. They left it out there for him to stand on his head to get a 2 points and again he can’t shut the door. He has one more chance tomorrow night. Then UNH, UNH and BU, BU! Let's see if he can win just one of these games! I will add that NU or BC have both decided not to play defense for 2 games. It really was more like watching pond hockey.

NU also again committed way to many stupid penalties and committed them at very inopportune times. The team is so undisciplined, fun to watch now, but really playing very stupid hockey. The good news was that both BC goalies also sucked tonight. Anyway, should be a good game tomorrow, but let me caveat this neither team is playing championship hockey.

Also,

Theories on Cronin that have crossed my mind,

1. NU witch hunt to get rid of him.

2. Cronin breaks rules to get out on his terms.

3. Just a stupid decision, which I seriously, doubt! Don't let his Arlington drawl fool you he is a very smart guy, and as coaches e-mail and cell phone texts are considered part of the public record in collage coaching and thus can be requested by the NCAA at anytime, I just don't see he made this kind of mistake, besides, a good coach usually has "a patsy" for this kind of screw up, like Valvano, Tarkanian, Calhoun and Carroll did.

4. He was set up.

Just my thoughts…I mean NCCA recruiting violations in hockey. Wow! I mean it’s not like he gave Brad Thiessen's mother a house or Joe Vitale an Escalade.

I say he won’t likly be back this season, and now wondering if he resigns or get’s canned.

i don't get this..... this just happened with a lot of talk at uhn in your own conference. they got 2yrs probation. everyone in HEA was aware.

afterwards, the general thought isn't, "wow. they sent a lot of emails and txts. maybe this works, we should try it!!!"

i've no explanation.....

Kidding aside.. i thought Sebastian LaPlante (NU'95), did a great job behind the bench last night (given the sudden circumstances). I liked his post gm comments and general poise in handling the media. G'luck to the team tonight. Go Huskies

Agreed, Sabastion and the equipment manager who was on the bench did a great job Friday night. Hope tonight we play with more self control.

Big cudos to the team for playing the game with such intensity given the gigantic distraction that happened to them 30 minutes before they left for bc. Very resilient bunch, bodes well for the playoffs, really getting excited about this team, hope the punishments aren't too severe and cro returns soon.

Congrats on the three point weekend. Pretty hard fought, entertaining three game mini series we had here. It should be clear to anyone that NU is dangerous and improving at the right time. Now, I just hope BC doesn't see you guys in the playoffs. Feel free to take some points from UNH next weekend...

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

Wow! I listened to the game online and it was one hell of a game from what I could hear. My heart was certainly at Matthews tonight. Big win, congrats Huskies! Way to bounce back from such a devastating loss at the Beanpot by taking 3 points this weekend.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2010-2011 Season Thread

I thought both teams seemed a little exhausted after the previous two games. Both teams created some chances but didn't convert and in NU's case didn't put the puck on net. I love how we battled tonight though, and really played some good defensive hockey for the majority of the night. Brodie Reid should be a productive first line player next year, he has a ton of talent. Seems like we are locked into 5th or 6th unless UVM does something crazy against BU next weekend but as I've said before I'd be pretty optimistic playing at Agganis or Lawler.
