Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

$30 a ticket for NU students is real pricey, good thing we actually like our team AND have jobs...

Same can't be said for BU fans, student sections were lacking fans and enthusiasm AND they have no jobs..

We're not going to do THIS again, are we? The games have started, the time for silly co-op smack talk is over.

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

And please leave your band at home tomorrow, they were the only thing in the arena tonight that performed worse than the BU hockey team.

Deal. We'll have the band kids shed the windbreakers and tubas and just attend the game as fans, and end the wretched assault on our ears.

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

JD I went, there's no way in hell there were 3k there. That means half of the seats were filled, there were entire sections empty at puck drop.

I was able to move around and was along the goal line for the shot (maybe 110?) but I thought no goal.

Unlike some HEA schools, BU counts by tickets scanned at the turnstiles so that count is likely accurate. That's a little less than half capacity. Consider people roaming the concourse and two club rooms.

On a weeknight, people in seats at puck drop is also bad to go on to as many people can't make it by 7.

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

I agree, BU has priced out many of the local hockey fans looking to see a good game, and refuses to take cues from other programs, like BC, who offer discounted tickets to the chump games that no one goes to anyway. $28 at the box office or $34 online for a quarterfinal game, or a November game against Brown is ridiculous.

Agreed... even as an alum who loves hockey. The group of people that I have season tickets with, have definatley started to have the conversaion at what price point would we pass on the season tix? Honestly for some, they are flirting with that edge.

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

What was the reaction of the guy that shot it? He knows if it went in or not. If he didn't argue or put his hands up in the air then you know it wasn't a goal.

Quailer definitely reacted, but it looked to me like it was more of a "Dammit, can't believe I hit the post" than a "Hey, that went in. Why is it not a goal?"

As does BC and I'm telling you there's no way there were 3k there. You mean 1 out of every 2 seats were filled? Come on you must be joking.

Agreed with many of the thoughts. Agganis is trying to sell itself as a "pro" experience along with "pro" prices. Weeknights it can be horrendous enough to get there with the traffic, especially wtih a family, paying $10 to park (I beleive BC is free), high ticket prices, and high priced concessions, I can see how for some people it is not worth it.

They definitely count from the turnstiles from what I can gather. They have listed games as "sellouts", but attendance as low as 5,800. (capacity around 6300) Maybe they counted the employees too! :)

I don't think BC does. They list 7,884 for every single sellout, don't tell me there are zero no-shows for each game.

Weighart wasted very little time in his game recap:

"As the saying goes, the harder you work, the luckier you get.

That was the case for Northeastern Thursday night, as the Huskies put in a great 60-minute effort and were rewarded with some good bounces against No. 13 Boston University in Game 1 of the best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series."

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

If you watch the highlights on Hockey East's site, you can very clearly see the interference on the second goal that Parker was furious about. McNeely just sets a moving pick on Megan and totally prevents him from getting out to MacLeod. After Parker's rant about that last weekend, I kept an eye on it last night and NU did it several times. Guzior even got called for it once. But that video makes it pretty clear why Parker was so irate. Millan definitely should've made the save, but still.

And on the fourth goal, you can clearly see Clendening try to glove the shot, but he just ends up deflecting it in. Not sure the shot was going glove-side like I originally thought, but Clendening definitely causes it to change direction nonetheless.

Not to mention the eyeball test--BC has killed it in attendance this year.

Fed League..well its not like the refs are not calling 'em.. Parker rant or not :)

You guys went like 1 for 9 on them so what's the point?..
(and NU had better skate with better discipline tonight!)

Ha, come on, only 12 PP chances would have been acceptable!

The tripping call on Vermeersch in the first was definitely BS, but I thought every other call on NU was a pretty clear penalty. Regardless of how many power plays BU got, though, that doesn't make it acceptable to miss an interference that led directly to a goal. Especially when Parker had already called the refs out for missing the same thing last weekend. They should've been looking for NU to do that and they obviously weren't. They called it once, but I saw two or three other times on top of the goal when it could've been called.

Re: Northeastern at Boston University HEA Quarterfinals

Are we really complaining that BU got the short end of the stick from the refs?

So, on that, do the coaches get to talk to the refs after the game to get a further explanation of things? Because at this point, Jack should know why those were no calls and then exploit that tactic on face-offs for his own guys no?

Well said. Sometimes luck is luck, sometimes you make your own luck, and NU was the team that looked like they wanted it more.
