Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

Oh....sorry. I missed the gist...you were sandbagging (speaking of golf) :D

If you prefer Italian, this is a good spot (they only make reservations for 10 or more, but they DO have a 'call ahead' list)

What is a good place?

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

I can't even find the address...what web site doesn't put their address on the "Contact Us" page? If it's closer I may have to try it...;)

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

I'm sure thre are records to answer this. I would love to know how often the four #1 seeds have advanced.

Cursory, but teams going to the frozen four, since the first year of the 4-regional, 16-team format.:

2014: 3 #1 seeds, 1 #4. WINNER #3 overall
2013: 2 #1 seeds, 2 #4. WINNER #15 overall (I think, Yale was #4 in the #2 seed bracket)
2012: 2 #1 seeds, 2 #2. WINNER #1 overall
2011: 1 #1 seed, 1 #2 seed, 2 #3 seeds. WINNER #3 in 1's bracket
2010: 3 #1 seed, 1 #4 seed. WINNER: #1 seed, 4th overall over all
2009: 1 #1 seed, 1 #3 seed, 2 #4 seed. WINNER: BU (pretty sure #1 overall)
2008: 2 #1 seeds, 1 #2 seed, 1 #4 seed. Winner #2 seed BC
2007: 0 #1 seed, 2 #2 seeds, 3 #3 seeds. Winner #3 MSU
2006: 1 #1 seed, 1 #2 seed, 2 #3 seeds. Winner #1 overall Wisconsin
2005: 3 #1 seeds, 1 #2 seed
2004: 2 #1 seeds, 2 #2 seeds. Winner was a 2 seed
2003: 3 #1 seeds, 1 #3 seed. Winner was 4th overall seed

So, only once has no No. 1 seed not advanced. Overall, 23 No. 1 seeds went to the Frozen Four (so about 48% of No. 1 seeds moved on).
10 No. 2 seeds moved on to the Frozen Four (21%)
9 No. 3 seeds moved on to the F4. (19%)
7 No. 4 seeds moved on to the F4, but all happened since 2008 (15%).

Note rounding errors.

I'll grant you that BU fans love to sandbag, but Yale does need to realize that Eichel does not exist in a vacuum. He's a better passer than he is a shooter, and is really able to see the open man. And if you're going for the hottest scorer in the nation, it's not Eichel. It's Rodrigues, who's been on fire this past few months.
The fans on both sides and the press are fixated on JE, the one person who most likely is not drawn into that scenario is Coach Allain. His all around game plans are usually very sound and his recent teams have always found a way to rise to challenge of playing arguably more talented teams. Hopefully the trend continues. This game could be 9-1 BU or 3-2 Yale, nothing would surprise me.

Really? If BU scores 9 goals against the best goaltender in the country you wouldn't be surprised!?

Really Bold Predictions:
The game will be close
Yale will score 2-3 goals.
If BU scores >3 goals they will win. If they score <3 they will lose.
If game is 3-3 and goes to OT, well, that will be exciting....but Yale hasn't done well in OT this year (ie. we are winless).

I have great faith in Allain. Also I think Yale having extra rest, time to prepare, and nothing to lose makes them dangerous.
That being said, this isn't the Yale team of years past with fast, small forwards who knew how to score. We go down a couple goals early and it will be over. In addition our powerplay is awful.

I just keep having flashbacks to the 9-6 BC regional final at Worcester in 2009, I would be surprised, but if you want to take it literally that is fine. I just don't know what to expect out of this game.

That game had a BC shorthanded goal from about 180 feet away. Whatever happens tomorrow, I don't think we're seeing that again.

Rondeau played lights out and, frankly, over his head against NoDak. Then we saw the regression to the mean against BC. Lyon is the real deal. He doesn't give up 9 goals against the best NHL team.

8:30 AM on the road 11:45 reservation at the Hanover St Chop House for a burger, Murphys and Strangebrew for a pint or three or four and then gametime! Have fun all, thanks for the banter.
