Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

What I'm plotting is what time to leave work tomorrow so I can go home and watch the game. It's an 11:00 A.M start time here in Arizona. Take the whole day off, maybe?

I knew we couldn't trust you Yalies. Who plays hockey in a whale?

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

All in all, I expect a couple of tough games this weekend against UMTC Duluth and the Cheerleading Scouts Union of America.

So on a less interesting note...BU is #1 in the country for offense (3.89 goals). Lights out? Maybe, maybe not. Yale is #1 in the country for defense (an incredible 1.59 goals against). So not to be outdone, BU has the #2 powerplay in the country at 26%. But Yale won't let that go...it has the #2 PK at 89.5% and sports the fewest penalties against in the country at 7 minutes.

Yale will be a very tough out for BU. BU has nine freshmen who will occasionally play like freshman which could burn them with this Yale team. Yale also has the experience of five players from their championship team of two years ago and an excellent goalie. This could be one and done for BU and I am saying this from the BU side of the ice.

If Cooper and O'Gara can keep Eichel in check, there is a chance. Even shutting him down does not stop the rest of that talented squad, Lyon will need to have his best game of the season.. As to being quiet, the way Yale got into the tourney has us in "happy to be here mode". Yale has improved as the season has progressed and even though the last series was a close loss to Harvard at home, it showed that they could still play with a top tier team. 24 hours !!!!

I'll grant you that BU fans love to sandbag, but Yale does need to realize that Eichel does not exist in a vacuum. He's a better passer than he is a shooter, and is really able to see the open man. And if you're going for the hottest scorer in the nation, it's not Eichel. It's Rodrigues, who's been on fire this past few months.

All correct. And almost none of that means anything when it's "one and done." That's why it is so difficult to win a championship. Can (anyone) honestly say that the "best team" wins every year? (I purposely left that vague and did not mention any specific teams so that I wouldn't get lambasted by their fans) As they say, "That's why they play the games!"

Yes, any team can win. I very much remember 2009, watching all three other top seeds fall to 4 seeds. Yes, a goalie can steal a game. I'm just optimistic, and I don't think it'll happen. That's it.

Yes. But I remember it slightly differently. I remember sitting in the Verizon Center with a minute to go in complete shock...until a miracle happened...

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

4 seed means nothing. Defense and goal tending wins championships. Advantage Yale.

BU will be lucky if they are able to escape with a win tomorrow.

You still have to score some goals and Yale does not have a consistent scorer on the roster. I have said that Yale is one good sniper away from being a very, very, good team, but they have gone through the whole season now without finding one.

If Yale scores 3 goals in a game we consider it a scoring explosion

team of destiny

One of many that year.

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

My guess is that the overall #1 seed does not even win the tournament the majority of the time.

I'm sure thre are records to answer this. I would love to know how often the four #1 seeds have advanced.

As we say on the golf course, "I'd rather be lucky than good." :D But having said that, I think that statement is a bit too strong...
