North Star Cup 1/30-31 - SCSU, UM, BSU, MSU-M: Who is drinking where?

Re: North Star Cup 1/30-31 - SCSU, UM, BSU, MSU-M: Who is drinking where?

So what can we expect from Bemidji on Saturday? I see where they're sitting in the middle of the WCHA standings and have an even overall record (10-10-5). Canadian sophomore Gerry Fitzgerald has twice as many goals (12) as anyone else on the roster. My guess is that they emphasize defense and try to create and capitalize on turnovers, perhaps at the expense of trying to generate lots of offense?

Do they serve beer at the X for this tourney?

Are there beaver fans on these boards?

Will the Gophers pound some beav?

inquiring minds want to know

They served beer at the Final Five didn't they? I would assume they will serve it for this.

Yep, they did serve at the final five.

Jan fans - If beer is indeed flowing at the X, watch out for mankato state fans. it may get ugly

Lots of blocked shots, trap game to crowd the neutral zone, pack around the goalie, strong physical game on the walls, offense will launch shots on net from all angles. Traditionally not a good match up for the Gophers. Gophers will most likely dump and chase, try to get pucks deep and look for dirty goals around the paint. Again, Fasching will need to play a key role near the paint. Good possibility for low scoring game.

Saw some highlights posted on GPL from BSU's series against Ferris. Looked like a lot of scrappy goals scored from the dirty areas by both teams.

Yeah, not a good match up for the offensive set Lucia likes to run. This is no cake walk for the Gophers.

Do they serve beer at Mariucci these days? They've sell it at the NHC, and down at the Cell Phone Sponsorship Center in Mankato.

The only NCAA events where beer cannot be sold is if it violates local code or it's the NCAA tournament.

They serve hard liquor in 'Kato too.

Bemidji serves beer and hard liquor as well.

BSU plays pretty much the same style that they have in the past. Hard forecheck, try to create turnovers and get an odd man rush. The D-core is young this year and there have been a few mistakes at bad times by them. The offense was supposed to be the bright spot with most of it returning and it seems like they haven't quite reached that potential (2.6 GF, 2.2 GA). But they still bring the energy and still work hard. Goaltending has also been hit and miss, and they were rotating Bitzer and Mimmack right before Christmas, but Bitzer has taken over the number one roll after the Beavers' two week trip to Alaska.

Bemidji State has played better on the road than at home this year.

Should be a fun time!

They do not sell beer at Mariucci. I wish they did, that would liven the place up a bit.

They sell it at TCF, not sure why they don't sell it across the street at Mariucci. dumb

When they first opened the "new Mariucci" they had free beer if you had a pass to the club seating area (way up high on the NW end). I believe that ended some time ago. Also they had beer available in the suites but I'm not sure if that policy has changed. Why they've never offered beer in the general seating area (like they do at The Bank) I have no idea. Sure would be a money maker if they did.

So for those of us who don't live in Minnesota, any options on watching these games? I'm assuming not but had to ask.
