North Dakota @ Denver: 2/24-2/25 - Let the Rivalry Renew!

Re: North Dakota @ Denver: 2/24-2/25 - Let the Rivalry Renew!

The Saturday tickets weren't available earlier in the week. They must be selling the back of the student section on Saturday night.

That is probably true. I'll be in the student section on Saturday, so I'm curious how that will go.

Ok...Roll Call - Who's going to which games and where are you drinking beforehand?

I'm going to both...undecided on where I will work out my liver. Waiting to hear back from some friends.

:p I'll be at both games. I'm not sure if/where I'll be going out tonight beforehand, but Spanky's is always a favorite.

There is a huge oil derrick to my southwest that prevents me from getting DirecTv. It sucks.
The oil derrick is probably owned by a DU grad.

DU grad makes oil royalties + Dirty can't get DirecTV = Pwn

I guess I should have put quotation marks around oil derrick so DU fans would understand I was talking about a tree. Given the post I thought it was obvious but I keep forgetting DU fans aren't as bright as your typical college hockey fan.

I never pictured you as an environmentalist. I would of thought that tree would of come down five minutes after the DirecTV guy told you it was blocking the signal.

that tree is a historical landmark...

I honestly feel more amped up for tonight than I do for the CC games. Tonight is HUGE for both teams, the atmosphere will be electric at Magness Arena.
It may be huge for DU, but it's a survival issue for UND.

Some of the reason for the empty seats this season is Denver is located in a civilized part of the country where there are other things to do aside from relations with family and livestock, :D
I know one of those two is just wrong, but I can never remember which.

I'm too lazy to put Roundup into the tree. If anyone would like to do it for me, I'd be most appreciative.

Just when you think you know what's going to happen at a DU - UND hockey game,
the unexpected happens.

Yet another unexpected game tonight, including the ending.

My reaction:

".......the hell?"

That was not Denver's best game. John Ryder can throw a man sized body check. The officiating affected the game to the point that DU could have given up or just guessed at whether or not their play would be penalized. The Sioux defense was great until they were worn down and the forechecking was great in the first, spotty in the second, and gave up in the last 5 minutes of the 3rd.

Re: North Dakota @ Denver: 2/24-2/25 - Let the Rivalry Renew!

UND smacked DU all over the ice in all aspects of the game. DU played to their potential for 10-12 minutes. DU could not do anything at either end of the ice. Couldn't get it out of their end and couldn't set it up offensively. Sioux D shut down lanes and cleared the puck like DU was wearing cement skates. Zucker was a no show. He's already half way to St. Paul. Sam kept it from being a massacre. As has been the case a lot all season we took way to0 many P's (18 minutes). The thing that is the most painful to watch about this team is their default is to play like a bunch of selfish individuals instead of a team. Sam, Sean and Drew were the only ones with their head and hearts in the game. After Sam got pulled there was one player standing on the bench--him. It will be interesting to see if the Pios bounce back and salvage the weekend. Hats off to the Sioux for a solid road win.

Credit where credit is due, I think North Dakota played really sold hockey for the first 55 minutes of the game. But Christ on a Cracker DU sucked up the joint in the first and about the first 12 minutes of the third. The second was really good until the penalty shot, which seemed like it took some air out of the sails, but I think DU still had a strong 2nd period. On that breakaway, I thought Sam looked well-positioned and was just hoping that the DU player wouldn't bring him down from behind. Ugh.

Anyway, I hope that DU comes out MUCH stronger tomorrow. If they had played the whole game with the intensity of the final minute, or even the final 5-7 minutes, this would have been a GREAT game. (Not to mention, it would be nice to see them use a win to guarantee home ice rather than backing in to it.)

This was not the DU team I expected to see tonight...was thinking we would see the team that swept Minny...that being said, the Sioux dominated the game and deserved the W...Pios with a big rush at the end of the game may be an indication of tomorrow's game...thought MacWilliams hit was a good hockey hit after watching it about 20 times; looked like he got him with the forearm in the chest...I would have had no problem if they would have given him 2 minutes for elbowing but 5 minutes and an ejection did not seem like the correct call...Great to hear "lets go Sioux" during the game; kudos to the Sioux fans that Occupied Magness...

I'll bet over a third of the fans were North Dakota fans. And I think they were louder than the DU fans.
