North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

I am more of an Occam's razor guy. The easiest explanation is usually the correct one.

Poor play on friday nights: there is no guarantee they will play better because they are flying in.

Showing up fresh: coming off a series against the worst team in the league.

Being concerned about who they are playing: HAHAHAHAHA, hold on a second, HAHAHAA. You were serious? Dave Hakstol is worried about playing UNO, of all schools?

In the cauldron known as Centurylink Center: OK, seriously now, quit joking around I am going to pee myself.

The head coach on the other bench: Dean Blais left North Dakota, like, 10 years ago. This isn't a big deal anymore.

The import of these games: North Dakota has plenty of conference titles. This isn't as big a deal for them as it is for UNO. I think the fake Mavs will get their best shot, but this would be the 16th conference title for North Dakota. So the no-namers aren't going to be glorified if they win.

If UND comes in with that attitude, they won't leave with a point. If they take UNO seriously, UNO gets swept. Can you give Hakstol a pre-game speech about the unworthiness of UNO? That would go a long way for our team.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

I guess I was under the impression that UNO did have a men's hockey team. Since you know the Inferior Mavs better than I, I'll defer to your claim that no such team exists. This does make it strange that UND chartered a flight to Omaha today though. Guess they just wanted to visit the zoo.

I was going with that we travel in style. Have you seen our bus? It's insane.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

And that should scare UNO plenty. Also, we will be without both of our captains on Friday, possibly one on Saturday. Zombo will not be playing (injury) and O'Rourke will be sitting out his suspension. A Friday night victory for UNO is quite improbable.

With sandbagging like this you should probably change your username.

And you can't even approach traveling in style if you're not on a plane. That's one of Ric Flair's rules.

With comments like this, we could've used you up in Grand Forks in the spring of '97.

Edit: Dirty beat me to it, ****

Any of you ND fans making the trip? I know it's the Inferior Mavs, but it's not a terribly long jaunt down the road.

I'm too soft to drive so I'll probably charter a flight.

Seriously though, no unfortunately not. I'll be looking forward to a trip once the new UNO arena opens though.

I wish. I live south of Denver, so it's quite a bit longer trip normally. Throw in that I am in the middle of bar prep and there was simply no way this series was going to work. I was there in the Fall of 2013 when the whole Sioux team was sick with the flu though...nice arena and fun town.

Fortunately, both games are on DirecTV this weekend. I'm looking forward to taking a nice 2.5-3 hour break and watch the games...Friday night can't get here soon enough!

Car's all packed. But we rarely get past the Blmgtn Joe Senser's (twincity Sioux bar).

Oh how I would love too but with a daughter who plays college puck and a son who plays high school puck I won't be making it. Once they are done playing the road trips will commence.

Hopefully there are tickets available next year...we may be the lowly Mavs, but with only 7,500 seats, I imagine the UND/UNO series will be a tough ticket to get.

No doubt - Friday night can't get here soon enough. Looking forward to the games - good luck to the Sioux!

Well, it's Thursday, so we can talk hockey without pure smack.

Great rivalry budding here, and not just because of Blais. Two good hockey teams year after year headed down the stretch. Lace em up, and let's go.

I just hope the Sioux can get rid of Diarrhea Fridays.

UNO looks pretty good. But they have been in this kind of position before. I think they will win a game even if North Dakota takes them seriously. But I wouldnt be surprised if your goalie turns back into a pumpkin.

It may be a little smaller than UNO fans would like but that place should get rocking. I'll find a way to get a ticket :)

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

You plains people are weird. I don't get the hoopla over a few bucks on a plane trip? It's kind of confusing to me.

Although to be fair I guess maybe it's because in the B1G if we wanted to fly somewhere we'd just buy an airline.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Unusual in the sense that North Dakota does not normally charter flights to Omaha. The Sioux have been on 2 chartered flights thus far this season (@ CC and @ Denver). There will be 2 more chartered flights (@ Western and @ Miami) at minimum the rest of the season. In past seasons, North Dakota has routinely chartered a handful of flights each season. It's an extremely common practice in the program. If you want to call the team "soft" because of that, go for it. You just look like you have no clue what you are talking about when you do so.

That being said, I think a split is the most likely result this weekend, although I would gladly take winning 4 of the 6 available points again.

Since this merited media attention, there, I believe that Dave Hakstol was being more than a tad disingenuous about the "why", whether flying charter is a "common" practice or not. It does not surprise me at all that they would fly to either Denver or Colorado Springs, since they are so far away and are by far the longest trips ND takes/took during the regular season this year. Oxford and/or Kalamazoo, either. I would think it would be far cheaper for the team to fly commercial to DU and Colorado Springs, though. Oxford or Kalamazoo are a different matter, though, I would think.

At Dave Hakstol's press conference yesterday, the first question out of your own press corps up there was about this very topic:

http://www.undsports.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&id=3690596

.......which appears to take him aback a bit. If this is so routine, why is your press corp asking him about it?

Question. Do you know the usual size of the North Dakota travel party for an away series, by the way?

Yeah, I think a split is the most likely outcome here as well (I'd be satisfied with that) and, it probably would be the best thing overall, for the conference as far as league tourney aspirations are concerned as well. I personally care more about the NCAA tourney than league hardware. That said, it would nice to accomplish both.

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Maybe I'm all alone here, but if the Sioux drop one will be because Hak and the boys sat down and talked the whole thing out and decided that for the long term good of the UNO program Omaha should get to beat UND now and then. It's the New Empathy that is being followed by those with vision. UNO Mavericks: If you pryck them, do they not bleed?
