North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Dean Blais was interviewed on local ESPN radio today about this weekend. Some quotes from the interview are floating around in the press, already. I did not personally hear it, yet, though.

I'll post the podcast when it's up as it isn't, yet.

My big concern tomorrow night is our guys coming out too amped and taking a stupid penalty or something and getting everything started off on the wrong foot. Sort of like what happened at CC the first night there where we immediately took a major penalty right after the start of the game (the penalty that is the reason UNO defenseman Brain O'Rourke is suspended tomorrow night, finishing his two game suspension for this) and they score immediately, and the entire game was an uphill battle from there.

I saw a Twitter quote tonight by an individual that knows UNO defenseman Brian Cooper and he said Cooper told him that the Mavs worked on major changes to it's power play for this series. Let's hope they get to put those changes into action--a lot.

Funny that the "Real Mavs" apparently play in the WCHA retread conference and the "Fake Mavs" are leading the toughest conference in hockey. Maybe North Dakota should have renamed themselves the Bison so the could've won a National Championship in the last 10 years.

UNO might not have history, but they have the same number of National Title as North Dakota in the last decade, and the two National Title rings they have since UNO started playing hockey are on UNO's bench.

UNO looks pretty good. But they have been in this kind of position before. I think they will win a game even if North Dakota takes them seriously. But I wouldnt be surprised if your goalie turns back into a pumpkin.

Massa will be the key for UNO for sure - without a couple of regular starters playing he'll have to come up big in order for UNO to win.

Maybe I'm all alone here, but if the Sioux drop one will be because Hak and the boys sat down and talked the whole thing out and decided that for the long term good of the UNO program Omaha should get to beat UND now and then. It's the New Empathy that is being followed by those with vision. UNO Mavericks: If you pryck them, do they not bleed?

I don't think you are alone with that thinking. I believe Dirty is with you on that sentiment.

Another great reason to hang a banner!!! You guys will fill your new barn with them. The "our coach has won national titles before with UND" banner should fit right in with your regular season win banners. Must be nice to have such low aspirations. I thought st cloud was pathetic but jeebus, you omaha guys take the cake.

Not surprising that someone from St. Cloud is still a freshman after five years.

That's just not fair. UND hasn't won a title in this millennium. Get it right.

There's 3 on UND's bench. You lose!

Re: North Dakota at UNO - 1-30/1-31 - The biggest series in UNO program history

Been keeping an eye on tickets sales this morning. It has been brisk, today, with the page auto-refreshing as tickets are sold like once every couple minutes. There appear to be less than 100 seats left in the lower bowl either night and they are all singles except for two small sections of seats in both corners at one end of the arena that "appeared" for sale on both nights this morning.

Most of what is being sold is upstairs today. You can see them disappearing, row-by-row, a little at a time.

Sales appear to be about equal for both nights. My guess is 9,000 to 10,000, when all is said and done? Question is, how many fannies are actually in the building irrespective of the seat "availability" situation on Ticketmaster.

"Grassy Knoll" Mav fans on Mavpuck are saying that no matter how many people are actually at these games that the announced attendance both nights will be 7,499. There is a considerable number of our fans that say the school is now under-reporting the actual attendance at UNO home games for their own purposes.

By the way, I think the Athletic Department at UNO is guilty of a lot of things but I, for one, do NOT believe this is happening.

Despite anything you see or hear about this anywhere else (even the freaking school) the capacity of the CenturyLink Center, for hockey, is 17,100.

Here it is on the venue's own web site:

I have a lengthy post in another thread from last year about why so many "sources" have this figure wrong (even this web site) that is probably more info than you want to know. The explanation is lengthy. If anybody wants me to post a link to that, I can. I'd have to find it, though.

It really is a treat to have this series on the schedule and to have the UNO fans so jacked up. College hockey at its best.

Not sure if that was sarcastic or not...but the Century Link Center is going to be rocking tonight. Can't wait!

The refs gift wrapped that victory to the Mavs in OT. Ortega over embellished that cross check. Should've been sent to the box along with MacMillan. 5x3 in OT...ha

Other than that crap, very entertaining game.

Sounds to me like someone is whining. Dude got tanked from behind. Give me a break. And North Dakota did not benefit from a crap call that gave them their second goal? Whatever.

It was a very entertaining game for sure.
