North Dakota 2016 Off-Season Thread

Re: North Dakota 2016 Off-Season Thread

As much as it pains me to say, I give Hakstol credit for keeping most of his skilled players for 3 or even 4 years.

I liked Hakstol. A lot of UND fans did not because he couldn't seem to reel in the big one. But he did inspire his player's loyalty, and he did develop them.

Hak did one hell of a job at UND. Record speaks for itself. To bad he couldn't get that elusive National title. Did everything but that. His first year with the Flyers just proves he knows the game.

Re: North Dakota 2016 Off-Season Thread

National titles aren't easy to win, took Jerry York a while to break through at BC even though he was close on several occasions before finally doing it. Had Hak stayed I am confident he would have gotten one at some point.

Re: North Dakota 2016 Off-Season Thread

Honestly, I worried that Hakstol was UND's answer to Doug Woog: So, so close, but no title.

I think many of us who liked him did, Sic. But he was a fabulous program coach, among the best UND has had.

Hakstol was at his best when the team was the worst. His skill lie not with turning fabulous talent into superstars, but in turning walk-ons into productive captains.

I heard his skill was having his teams go into a defensive shell late in the game with a one goal lead... this is what I was told anyhow.

That one stung for sure but watching the goofers get rolled by Union in the title game made me feel so much better... well, that and watching goof fans burn down dinkytown. Ahhh... so much fun thinking about the good 'ol days. Seems like just yesterday UND didn't choke in the title game and won their eighth NCAA college hockey national title... 8>5.

That one did sting but it was nice seeing arrogant goofer fans wearing their .6 tee shirts crying after Union destroyed them. Karma at its best.

Yep. Watching them get spanked by Union definitely lessened the blow. I'm sure it didn't bother too many Gophers fans as I'm sure most were suffering from hangovers celebrating the National Championship win over UND. Woops. :D

it's not like we have played you for a while. not playing makes for a boring rivalry. besides, it's been more fun watching Wisconsin auger into the dirt the last couple of years.

I'd rather be a Wisconsin fan right now than a gopher fan. For all its supposed talent, the gopher program just disappoints year after year.
