NoDak @ Maine Oct 22 / 23

Re: NoDak @ Maine Oct 22 / 23

We also got swept by the likes of Alaska-Anchorage and Michigan Tech that season...so Maine's accomplishment was not all that great.

As far as being "stacked" we're actually ranked higher heading into this series than the last series in 2006 at the Ralph. Maine was also significantly higher ranked going into the 2006 series.

Well that doesn't really matter in the context of throwing feces back and forth with dirty. Maine pretty much disappeared after that series until squeaking into the NCAA tournament by virtue of that sweep and beating the goofers the week before. None of our green goaltenders have played well enough this year to steal a game yet, and if that doesn't happen this weekend it will be tough to get a win against the Sioux.

North Dakota has a long history of goalie's stealing games against them :)

I think it will be a very competitive series. If I had to bet, I would put money on the Sioux. I think they'll get at least a split out of this series, and could very well come away with the sweep if our defense plays up to its ability. I always root for Maine, just not when they play North Dakota. The two programs are very similar, and I really hope Maine rises back up to its proper place in the college hockey landscape this season. They should just wait to rise until after this weekend :p:D:D

Really disappointed in the scheduling of Maine right before DU, a conference series. With UND's history of slow starts DU is 4 points they might really need down the stretch. Coupled with the lashing BC just put on DU the upcoming series could have serious PWR effects. Also, if UND splits or worse with DU it makes BC even more of an intimidating team for the Sioux players which they definitely don't need.

Oh yeah and BC looks pretty good this year:

I like the Sioux... too. I'll be headed up to Maine on Saturday for game two, can't wait.

Sioux Sweep. Blood uses black bear hides to stay warm while walking back to Grand Forks after airplane gets rear-ended.

Re: NoDak @ Maine Oct 22 / 23

Just had our tickets confirmed through the UND box office, so I'm looking forward to a great weekend of hockey.

Anyone from Maine have any advice on kid friendly places to go and/or eat at in Bangor and Orono? My wife and I are bringing our 3 year old and 4 month old and are looking for something to do on Saturday during the day, as well as good places to eat on Friday night and both meals on Saturday. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I second Erix. If you have the day free on Saturday, you could do a whole lot worse than a day trip to Acadia national park. No, you won't see/do close to everything, but whatever you decide to do, it'll probably be worthwhile. :)

I'm thirding you man. Acadia's the magic place, what is it, second most poplular national park beyond yellowstone? Get up at a reasonalbe time a make a day of it visiting as much as you can. Find urself a place to get lobster done the right way. Stroll through Bah Hahbor and let ur wife spend some $$. :D and learn the Maine accent.:) My daughter wuz married in Northeast Harbor (just down the road so to speak) at the Azticou (sp?) Inn not too long ago. Tremendous setting for it. And by all means, you landlocked Dakotans need to get to the ocean and spend some time there with ur kidz. They'll luv it, and so will you. But, dont let the white washing you'll experience at that skating rink ruin ur trip. ;)

Yeah, put the kids in the car and drive an hour to and from Bar Harbor, sounds like fun for the kids eh? It's supposed to be cold on Saturday and it will be raw in Bar Harbor but if you prairie queer it might be a nice change of pace. I would take the kids to the Discovery Museum on Main St. in Bangor and then go to Angler's Restaurant at the intersection of Coldbrook Rd. and Rt. 202 in Hampden for a great seafood dinner of lobster, fried haddock, or clams before the game, but go early. You can't go wrong with this, the little folks will be happy and so will Dad and Mum. Hope you enjoy your stay and be sure to come back and visit us again. We made the trip to ND when Maine played there a few years back and the Sioux did an honor ceremony before the game for Coach Walsh and Coach Blaise was given a boat. It was a great weekend, one we will never forget and hope you and your family will experience the same on your visit.

How do you classify "elite" players? The Sioux have draft picks from all rounds including a couple first round picks. The Sioux have a couple other players that were preseason All-Americans. The Sioux have the conference rookie of the year, along with a couple guys who could very well be this year's rookie of the year in conference. There are several other players that were All-conference last season.

Oh, and none of those are named Jason Gregoire or Matt Frattin who could very well put up 25-30 goals this season.

But yeah...nobody to worry about ;)

That's cool if you're comfortable in thinking that Frattin, Gregoire, Hextall & Kristo are going to be the next group of great forwards at NoDak; but I just happen to feel that teams like 99 with Goren, Blake, Panzer & Lundbohm or 04 with Parise, Bochenski, Stafford, Porter & Murray were a bit more intimidating. I'm sure you follow NoDak a lot closer than I do, so perhaps you are correct, but again, I just don't see it that way..

I guess you didn't get the sandbagging memo.

A lot of people following the Sioux feel that this is our best team since the '04 team you mentioned. IMO, along with others, this is Hakstol's most talented team. Anything less than a top 2 spot in the WCHA and a serious run at the national title would be a disappointment. I feel as though they'll be serious contenders for the trifecta (ie MacNaughton Cup, Broadmoor Trophy and National Championship).

And yes, I really feel as though Frattin, Gregoire and Kristo are all top-notch forwards. Added to that, they have a ton of depth at the position to where any line on any night can light the opposition up. Factor in that their d corps is strong than their forwards and they have a fairly good goalie, the Sioux will be very difficult to beat this year.

The sandbagging is between UND and Maine.

This guy is a BC fan that apparently doesn't think much of North Dakota this year. Hopefully the team that he follows has similar thoughts and take the Sioux lightly if the two squads get together later in the year.

Where did I say I don't think much of NoDak this year? I merely stated that I didn't think this years group of Forwards quite measured up to some of past teams' that I mentioned. Great Defense, solid goaltending and great depth at Forward; just not many real top end forwards in my opinion.

You eluded to the fact that when North Dakota had "elite" players (as you described them) that they were making Frozen Fours and Title games. You've said that you don't think this year's squad has "elite" players. It's a pretty simple jump to make that you don't think that North Dakota is a Frozen Four/National Title contender this year since they don't have "elite" players.

Nice pics..cant say I've ever seen thunderhole so violent....but, my wife gave her thumbs up tothe childrens museum in Bangor. I've never been there....she says the kids would luv it. Do they keep people away from the hole all the time now since someone was swept off the ledges awhile back?

Re: NoDak @ Maine Oct 22 / 23

It seems to me that NoDak hasn't had quite as much top end talent up front the past few years and coincidentally enough they haven't made the FF during those same years. Maybe some of the younger guys will take that next step to the elite level this year, but I still don't believe they have a forward who has ever scored 40 points. Even when NoDak has slightly less talent than usual, they are obviously still better than most other teams; and in what I would consider a down year across the board in college hockey, they are certainly a top 5 team. Again, I am not trying to criticize your team, I just don't see it up front as being one of your stronger groups.
