NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I don't think the Cat's laid any eggs tonight both teams played well. Lake State just seemed to get the breaks along with Deifel playing great. As a Laker fan I was a little nervous after giving up that late goal in the second period.

Gordie was phenomenal, especially in the second period and literally stole that one.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

It's too bad that NMU lost as they could have made a little noise nationally with a another win tonite by staying on their hot streak.... NMU was one of the hottest D1 college hockey teams in the country coming into tonite's game.... It's really too bad that they couldn't buy a goal tonite....

Shots On Goal

NMU 6 17 5 28
LSSU 16 10 5 31

Well hopefully the Lakers can help NMU out by beating Ferris State next weekend. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high cause the Lakers have sucked big time at Ewigleben the past eight years.

Yeah, the result was surprising to me.

Not to me. LSSU has been a tough out to get this season. Sure they had that nice long six game losing skid and got swept by Arizona State, but they're also gone to Alaska twice this season, and have a winning record in the State of Alaska this season (.750). It's difficult to fly four time zones away and get a win, let alone a sweep. Then, they skunked both Bemidji AND Bowling Green at home. And made Mel Pearson rage while losing to Tech at Carnival.

They're a tough team this year. Dropping one in the Soo doesn't surprise me. We got skunked early in the season by them too.

I watched UAH sweep them in October.

I watched UAH sweep the Lakers in October in person and actually the Saturday night game UAH put a royal whup on the Lakers.

After that weekend I thought the Chargers were on their way to being a near .500 team. Next year should be better, good luck Geof going forward.

Yeah, that was the high point of our season. That was the farthest that we were .500 in a season in about a decade. Then ...

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU kisses their sister in a (2-2) OT tie with LSSU.... NMU is now (15-12-7).... NMU @ MTU next Friday & MTU @ NMU next Saturday....

NMU HOCKEY TIDBITS
1998-1999 was last season NMU played at Lakeview Arena
1999-2000 was first season NMU played at the Berry Events Center
1998-1999 & 2009-2010 were NMU's last 2 NCAA Appearances
Rick Comley led NMU into the NCAA's in 1998-1999
Walt Kyle's only NCAA appearance was in 2009-2010
Rick Comley's last year at NMU was 2001-2002
Walt Kyles first year at NMU was 2002-2003

Well, the 'Cats now control their own destiny. It's quite simple: Win. I'll be at both games this week. Team needs to give it their all.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

NMU blew a great opportunity to solidify 4th place and home ice in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs with a loss and a tie at LSSU this past weekend while Ferris State was swept by Bowling Green and didn't get any points.... With the tie NMU now has 29 points and is in 4th place and Ferris State has 28 points and is in 5th place going into the final regular season weekend.... NMU plays away & home games with MTU while Ferris State hosts LSSU this weekend.... It will be interesting to see how this all pans out....

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I'm still trying to figure out why NMU Junior Forward Sami Salminen (6'4" 225lbs) was a healthy scratch in Saturday's game against LSSU.... You would think Walt would play his top guys at this point of the season.... Didn't hear why this was done.... Maybe Davyd83 would have some inside information for us????

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I will be making the drive up to see the NMU vs Tech game just like I did last year. Sitting up against the glass again too. Hopefully they get a W this year. Tech was a WEEE bit better last season. They are still a force this season. I am hoping for an NMU sweep but would be very happy with a split... provided Ferris drops at least 1 of their games against LSSU. Otherwise we need a Win and a Tie at minimum.

In other news... Coreau was just called up to the Wings. He is on the last month of his rookie, 3-year contract. Hopefully he gets a start and a win for the Wings.

His rookie contract expired last year. He signed a one year, two way deal this past off season.

Re: NMU Wildcats 2015-2016 Season Thread

I believe, and DavyD you can help correct me, that even though he never got a start (or played in relief) while sitting on the Red Wings bench for the tail end of the 2012-13 season / 2013 Playoffs, his first year was "burned up" as a scratch for the Wings.

Hence the need for a one year deal for this season.

Either way, he's in a contract year and is still an RFA to the Wings.

His initial deal was a 2 way deal covering the end of 12-13, plus 13-14 and 14-15. He was placed on IR for the 12-13 portion.

Okay. It sucks since the owner of Capgeek passed away, there hasn't been a reliable source for contracts.
